The last day I hunted because of this thread, I switched between manual and auto GB. In manual I had it set at zero. EVERY target dug I went into each of the GB modes. I did not notice a depth increase over another mode. The only thing I noted was a little more stability [quiet running] in tracking GB with moving salt water up and down the beach. Dave

There is a thread on "other sites' asking about recovery speed and depth? With SALT WATER. The only question was do you loose depth, in a higher recovery? I would say with the NOX at 6 there is a balance with quiet running and depth in salt water.[esp with black sand] With a machine like the Sovereign in all metal Pinpoint mode it is doubtful you can overswing or swing this too fast on ANY salt beach. Yesterdays take with the sovereign in all metal pinpoint [for those who never had a 186 coin day]. [347 pesos]

My Soil Sucks Please Help With Equinox 800
midalake replied to bethanyb1201's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Beach 1&2 are not the same. [I am a salt beach hunter] 2 is WAY more stable. Try keeping your recovery speed at 6. At least in Salt and especially black sand it seems to keep it more stable. Confirm targets by going to "all metal". But as you may know NOTHING is the same in poor soil or black sand conditions. When in doubt, dig it, and check targets from more than one position. What are you doing with GB? Dave -
For whatever it is worth [signal transmission aside] In saltwater and light black sand conditions, I get way more accurate target ID numbers hitting the all-metal button and re-sweeping the target. Dave

Kind of weird...I do own a Xcal with custom headphones but that machine is back in the US. I would be the "Dave" with the chest mounted Sovereign GT, and the under performing Equinox. Now 14 days no gold! Yes I had a Margarita today. Dave
-
YEP, time for a margarita. I have 12 days in so far here in Mexico and no gold yet. The beach conditions stink. Dave

Since I was trying to hang it on the back of my hat this makes sense it could not make it through my thick skull. Dave

Still can't seem to get my @%^&&&() Black Widows to work wireless but OK now wired. Has anyone had issues with putting the module close to the phones? Also mine seems to be falling on it's face in moving salt water, but that is another thread. Dave

Yes, already could write a book on it. That is why I am getting a custom cable made for my Black widows. Also getting a longer cable than stock. Dave
-
OK Found where Steve already posted the length [31"] ....disregard. Thanks
-
Can someone please tell me how long the Minelab adapter cable is to go from 1/8 to 1/4 headphones? Thanks Dave

Everyone has to figure out what works out on their beach, but I personally do not see recovery speed tied to depth, in the 3-6 range. However no doubt the higher sensitivity you can run the better. I think Clive has pointed out how a "high" recovery speed can stabilize the unit in salt, therefore you may be able to run a higher sens. Myself, I HATE a detector that chatters too much on the beach. I find that the time period of the low tide and the ability to cover more ground[sand] FAR out weighs trying to scrub every faint signal/false signal on the beach. In a 3-4 hr period I need to complete 1 1/2 mile section of beach at the tides lowest point, if my detector is chirping too much for me to do this, I will have left possible targets in the sand. Looking at my notes from last season there were 4-6 days in the 45 days I worked that no chatter/falsing would have been mandatory. Dave

The Question Even Drayton Can't Avoid
midalake replied to Alluminati's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Well two things come to mind. Out on the beach and the day before we had a really good earthquake. A lady in good spanglish, dead serious, asked me if I was trying to figure out when the next earthquake was going to happen. My answer....Si, un muy grande in cinco hours. #2 Had the typical stalking heckler following me, Dad and son...getting the beep beep noise [from them] and have you found any gold bottle caps ......blah, blah. Would cha know it, that the scoop I was doing has a medium thick gold neck chain dangling off the front. I looked at them smiled and said "that was a good beep beep"........ If you have spent any amount of time swinging there is no limit on lip service. Dave -
Do not forget most chains will ring a one as well. Luckily at the beach I work at there is almost no foil. Dave

Get a Minelab Sovereign cuff, it is also run on other Minelab machines. Once mounted put a metal shim through the bottom slots to close smaller.. Dave

Foil would/could ring up as a "1" as well??? No?? Dave

For the beach! I am still wondering WHY I would want more then one tone? If it is out of the "ferrous" area and repeats, DIG IT. There is still lots of information that can be garnished from every signal by hunting in one tone like: Size, depth, length, and then comparing every signal in the same tone. Convince me otherwise! Reviewing Tony Eisenhower's Headphones For The Equinox

CJC, do these headphones have outside sound damping built in? Like the -28db Black Widows? Dave -
Adapter To Run Sun Ray Pro Gold Headphones
midalake replied to Rick73's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Many of us who hunt the beach Steve do not want another adapter to keep salt free. What about extra impedance in-line? I like my Salt Water set-up to be as clean as possible which usually means trouble free. Since I never owned a 3030 or GPZ it was new to me. With no explanation from Minelab and flying 1200 miles not being able to use my machine was not a pleasant experience. Dave -
Adapter To Run Sun Ray Pro Gold Headphones
midalake replied to Rick73's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
There is a technical difference the way a 1/4 jack can be wired. It can be wired to just mono, it can be wired to just stereo, it can be wired to do both. This is in conjunction with the circuit to disconnect the audible speaker when the headphone jack is plugged in. Minelab took it upon themselves to wire their detector out of the normal. QUALITY headphones such as Black Widows, Sunray, Rattlers and others will NOT work because of how Minelab wired their headphone circuit. This is NOT a headphone problem. It is a Minelab MFG problem. Adapter To Run Sun Ray Pro Gold Headphones
midalake replied to Rick73's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Well yes there is. It's called Stereo and Mono. Since Minelab does not provide 1/4 jack headphones with the 600 or 800 you bet your bottom they should provide an explanation. Zero paperwork in that adapter package. -

Adapter To Run Sun Ray Pro Gold Headphones

Sunray pro golds will NOT work with the Minelab adapter. You will have to go to ebay and buy a cable made by "others" Dave
