I clean mine with alcohol after every trip to the beach whether in or out of the water. Had spots of corrosion occur on my old Equinox but never had a problem with it.

Manticore Vs 800-first Few Beach Hunts
okara gold replied to TroyLPN's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
If Minelab didn't replace the pod, I was going to rebuild those 4 areas with a good epoxy made for adhering to plastic. -
Manticore Pulling Silver Out Of The Iron. Excellent Vid.
okara gold replied to Redneck's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
I watched the video too. Looks like the real deal as far as the capabilities of the Manticore are concerned. Only thing is… I’d be leery to bring a shovel that size into a park. Nice big deep holes that shouldn’t cause any harm to the turf but the opinions from a bystander / Karen could be detrimental. -
Manticore Vs 800-first Few Beach Hunts
okara gold replied to TroyLPN's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Jerry. Is this something you are recommending or Minelab? On my Nox, the 4 metal inserts broke away from, and tore out of the cracked plastic in the control pod. I was in the water at the time and was holding nothing but the pod in my hand. I called Minelab and they questioned if I had an after market rod and possibly over tightened the screws when attaching it to the rod. They were reluctant to replace the pod but said they would one time only. I blamed it on the constant torque while using it in the water. I have not unscrewed the pod as of yet on the Manticore and was wondering if they are using the same type of inserts to secure the screws to. I still say it was torque and corrosion that caused the problem. Thanks. -
Manticore Vs 800-first Few Beach Hunts
okara gold replied to TroyLPN's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Equinox 800 on steroids. 😆 I said those exact words to myself today. It is punching deeper than my retired Nox, and definitely more sensitive on tiny bits of non ferrous targets at depth. So far for me it’s seems to be opening up deeper beach targets. I’m having very little problems with ferrous falsing. At this time all I’m hunting is the beach. -
Here Is What I Told A "nosey Karen"
okara gold replied to George Kinsey's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I was detecting an old park back in late '70's. A cop car pulled up with 2 officers in it and tapped the horn motioning me to come over. One of them said, "What the hell are you doing?". I thought Oh boy ...here we go... I said I was looking for coins and his reply was... 'Do those things really work? I had a pocket full of old coins and silver and showed him a little. (Never show it all). He said have a good time and away they went. -
I have been exclusively salt beach hunting in and out of the water and use beach low conductors and surf modes. While wet sand hunting yesterday I was running beach low conductors around a sensitivity of 23. A little on the edge of over sensitivity for my conditions. I’m always thinking about small chains being so difficult to find in salt conditions I tend to run as high as I can. I got a fairly good sounding target but the ID was jumping around and the audio wasn’t a good solid sound. For the heck of it, I lowered the sensitivity to 20 and everything calmed right down with the ID solidly locking on a good number and the audio was solid and consistent. It turned out to be a dime about 10 inches deep. So I do agree that when I checked a questionable target by using a lower sensitivity it was spot on. I am using the prospecting audio as I found it seems to hit targets deeper and it has a sharper audio response. Lots to learn and experiment with. So far I’m pleased and it has gone 25 hours totally submerged with no problems.

Glass Shard Identification
okara gold replied to Whitemountainexplorer's topic in Rocks, Minerals, Gems & Geology
My guess is campfire melted glass. There is a beach that I hunt once in a while where people have bonfires and throw their bottles in the fire. What is left is a mess of melted and chunked glass blobs with sand granules, ash and debris fused into it. Quite similar to yours. -
Do I Trust My Manticore In The Water?
okara gold replied to phrunt's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Hey there TampaBayBrad! Sorry I missed your question... When in the water I use Tony Eisenhower's wired waterproof earphones. I am pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the ML-105's feel and sound and will continue to use those when out of the water. I haven't been in the water since my last post due to rough surf conditions and a few days of work. -
Do I Trust My Manticore In The Water?
okara gold replied to phrunt's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
I was able to get in the saltwater again today. Conditions were not the best. The swells were picking me up and placing me a few feet away and a southern bound current was strong enough making it difficult to place your scoop accurately to dig the target. Waves were breaking and rolling high off the outer sandbar and would hit you on the back of the head if you weren’t watching. Bottom line… The Manticore was submerged for 2 hours in some strong water and performed perfectly with no water intrusion. I was running a 21 sensitivity with a 4 recovery speed, prospecting mode. No gold but so far so good. -
The chart is amazing. Thanks for taking the time to put it together!

Manticore Screen Backlight And Programs
okara gold replied to longbow62's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Glad you mentioned that. Mine had 2 also. I took off one and with the one remaining blue tinted film it was hard to see in the bright sun. I removed it and WOW... what a difference! -

I've been looking at the manual numerous times and cannot find any mention of 50 tones. Pages 44 and 45 cover the tone section but I only see 1-2 or 5 tones available. Pitch settings are 1-50. Am I missing it somewhere? Thanks -

Mine looks the same but will probably be filled with fine silt and sand before long. Planning to get it wet as soon as the waves calm down. -
My Manticore is now waiting for me at my local dealer's store, (1 1/2 hour drive). It arrived there yesterday, and it will be in my hands tomorrow. My dealer offered to ship it to me free of charge but by picking it up, I have an excuse to see if there just might be something else, I desperately need in his shop.😁 I was on his list of early buyers and no deposit was needed. I did a water hunt this morning with my Nox and sniffed out this gold ring. It may possibly be the last gold my Nox finds for a long time. It's time to earn your beans Manticore!

The only thing that comes to my mind being beneficial, would be no white lights during sea turtle hatchings here in Florida, so the red light would be permissible. But I don't think ML had that in the rearview mirror. Or is a red light easier on the eyes?

Manticore Deus 2 Side By Side Hunt Video

Sure was nice to see so many silver dimes being found. Reminded me of the heydays of metal detecting in the '70s and '80s. Silver in every hunt! -
Delay Switch Questions
okara gold replied to bklein's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
I sure did Joe. I nicely asked for a refund and Felix had to check with others and the answer was NO. Send it in under warranty. FT had my machine more than I did. Did I love my AQ? Absolutely... but with the high incidence of repairs and with only several months remaining on the warranty, it was time to say goodbye. It also let me down on 2 important trips to NY to hunt some old, lucrative heavy black sand lakes. Always in for repair -
Delay Switch Questions
okara gold replied to bklein's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
Volume knob 3 times, Delay knob, 2 times plus an issue when just touching the right side of the housing or delay knob the unit would squeal loudly. (Probably one was associated with the other. Faulty earphones, and corrosion constantly in the battery cable.
