  1. I did hear of one place renting out GPZ’s in the US, story was that they apparently had the GPS settings set to tracking on and the concern was that they could later see were successful renters had used them. There are some pretty high-end equipment rental “clubs” in some cities where people who live in apartments need tools and such. They seem to do pretty well and the legal agreements they use are binding. My friends in Portland belong to one and have borrowed 3D printers and other tech. Anyways, maybe it’s not such a good idea. It’s definitely not for professional or full-time prospecting, and it would require a group of the right people to be successful.
  2. Ah, great writeup with illustrations of this technique in Chris Ralph’s book- just got to that chapter.
  3. Hello wasn’t sure which forum to put this in, I was curious if anyone is involved with any type of a equipment share agreement with a club or individually with other partners? Where are you interested in maybe starting one? Knowing how expensive some of the better detectors are, I was curious about the feasibility of sharing one with other partners. It would be especially beneficial for someone like myself that probably only detects for a total of just a few weeks if that out of the year. I realize there’s a lot of risk if it’s not done correctly. It may be necessary to have that based on credit deposits or other means of ensuring the safety of the equipment. And to reduce wear and tear on the equipment, one option is if partners owned their own coils and covers, and borrowed or rented the main unit when they go out. Sure would be a affordable way to be able to use a detector like a GPZ or 6000 for a lot less, especially for those of us that can only go for a short periods. I guess there will be other details like who owns it and what happens if people want to quit. That can be ironed out in the agreement as well, There are some great resources of other types of equipment share projects online along with their agreement forms to cover this. Also, are there any commercial companies in the western US that rent them, particularly in Az? I know some people buy new ones and then flip them after their trip but that’s a big loss that I don’t want to do anymore. Anyway, let me know if you’re interested or if you can answer any of my questions above. Thanks, Anthony
  4. I keep a ACR ResqLink PLB with me that doesn't require a service subscription, but it is only for dire emergencies and can not be used for messaging. The Garmin sounds like a good idea for breakdowns and safety check-in’s. I used to use a Spot for work, but the tracking feature was pretty expensive for it. Is the tracking feature very expensive for the Garmin? Hey, add me to your family account so I can get in on that tracking you stuff in the goldfields too! 😉
  5. There's a GPZ for sale on Offerup for just $600, funny as it looks exactly like the photos of one that sold on FleaBay just a couple weeks ago...
  6. Simon, you’ve given me a reason to persevere when detecting lead littered locations. My first solo day out with my new 24k was fun and very productive...for Pb! It was everywhere, including wedged between the cracks of the intact quartz veins. I don't know why people would shoot directly at the bedrock! It had me wishing that there was some way to differentiate it from Au. I guess there is as you’ve shown... Dig it and sort it!
  7. Thanks for your reply! Does the scale measure tongue weight? Sounds interesting…
  8. Great video, so here’s a question that maybe somebody can answer. In the last part of the video that showed the rover model with heavy weights on the tongue of the trailer lifting the front end up, what would be the effect of that weight distribution using airbags to level a truck when you have a front heavy trailer, would it put some weight back down on the front wheels? Asking because I’ve been considering a double propane system and a storage tray for a generator or water above it on top of the tongue for our 16 footer for extended remote camping and detecting trips. Mainly just curious about it, we do have a pretty hefty weight distribution hitch which takes care of most of that, but I do have to disconnect it when we’re going offroad.
  9. Now I see this article, thanks for your effort Steve! Those coils marked GMT 24K were confusing me.
  10. So a GMT may also use GMX coils as well? Asking for a friend… thanks!
  11. Thank you for your answer, really appreciate the time!
  12. Are GMX and 24K coils interchangeable? A buddy of mine is looking for a 6 inch GMXcoil but they are getting rare and expensive used compared to the 24K Coils.
  13. Nice patch. Manzanita and Bull Pine, I bet they were in the Central California Sierra foothills.
  14. Reese- sorry about those pics, just saw this! I will get them when its light out and post them for you here tomorrow. Stay warm in the meantime! 😉
  15. Wow, it’s interesting they are theorizing that either a Dane dropped it who had visited the Mediterranean, or a Viking may have been in possession of it. Very nice find! And for those who can’t read it: https://www-dr-dk.translate.goog/nyheder/regionale/midtvest/1000-aar-gammel-egyptisk-oerering-fundet-paa-jysk-mark-undrer-og?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US
  16. Reese, I like your set up! So I have to ask, what are you using for heating? I use and suggest a diesel forced air 12v heater, they work really well and you don’t breathe exhaust fumes or possible carbon monoxide like the other type that uses propane and doesn’t vent the exhaust fumes. Something like this- I mounted mine inside an old toolbox and we put it on the ground outside of the truck and run the heat into our rooftop tent using a dryer vent hose. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VT24CLK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_G5K83EB5B7GKAJ7AM7H6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
  17. I made a cheapo telescoping slideout awning using PVC pipes to do something similar on mine- it forms a square roof frame to hang a shower curtain or tarp. There’s two larger pipes mounted to my roof rack, and the smaller diameter frame pipes slide into it. I tied a string between both pipe ends just long enough to act as a stop to keep the inner pipe from being pulled out too far.
  18. Even though it’s very stable, it is interesting how gold can still be dissolved by the chlorine in Agua Regia and becomes one molecule consisting of 1 gold atom and 4 chlorine atoms (AuCl4).
  19. That makes sense about an old channel being bisected by the one they’re in. And based on the side slopes upstream, it could be deposits higher than the present stream channel. Mapping their finds would benreally important.
  20. Simon, do you know what the geology is of the region where they found it? Just curious what the general type of deposits nuggets like that are from in NZ. Ive read that some of the goldfields there are hydrothermal, and others are from metamorphic based rock.
  21. Too bad they weren’t filming the moment. Must be a lot of baby nuggets in that creek where that came from. It was well rounded off also. Thanks for sharing it.
  22. Gerry should buy the Boot of Cortez Nugget- 389.4 Oz Troy (26 lbs!). Then he could really put his foot in his mouth!🤑 https://www.goldrushnuggets.com/bootofcortez.html
  23. Glad it wasn’t yours, You had us going! Do feel bad for the anonymous owner though.
  24. Ugh, So terrible to see! I am really sorry. My wife ran over an entire row of her crew’s lunchboxes put under the work truck that they were trying to keep shaded, but this takes it to a much deeper level of regret. 😔
