  1. I just Subscribed to your Channel and watched the first "intro" video. I think it will be very helpful to many and fun too. Even if someone doesn't get a Nexus or use an Analog machine, there is a lot that can be learned from them and your experience will show that. I have been, and still really am in the same position with the Tarsacci MDT 8000. Very powerful unit, but also a very different animal. My Vista X is a hybrid Analog machine and it is pretty amazing in heavy iron and minerals. What these two detectors have that is missing from the more popular detectors is a true All Metal channel. Mixed mode is also almost unheard of today. The Nexus has both plus other refinements. A very interesting machine. Looking forward to the journey with you. Where & what kind of ground conditions do you hunt? I'm digging relics in East Texas red dirt that sticks to a magnet.
  2. That's a great find. Shows how well they used to plate metal. Even the screwheads are embossed. What a contrast to the instant disposable plastic world we have now.
  3. I am reminded of what I read in the travel journal of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The Grizzly Bear as a species was unknown to them. On their first encounter with one they shot it with a sub .40 cal. muzzle loaded rifle ball. They were quickly surprised that it did not react like a Black Bear. It took quite a few more shots from other party members to ground the bear. Some how no one was mauled.
  4. You should do well. Welcome from East Texas.
  5. Chase's post above lays out the approach needed to be consistently successful detecting in the real world today. Knowledge is needed but it's application is key. Force of will won't change conditions or make up for mismatched set up of the machine. I think his post should be included in Steve H's compilation of Classics.
  6. Welcome from East Texas. The XLT is still a very good all around machine if you take the time to learn it well.
  7. Yes, the 9V Lithium batteries work just fine in the AT pinpointer. I keep one in my digging bag for back up to the regular NiMH rechargeable I use for everyday. Not only do they have a long shelf life & run time, they are also pretty much leak free. Work well in cold weather too.
  8. I'm betting Nokta will surprise the "market" with their PI unit as much as they did with the Legend. They are very clever and capable on top of being attuned to consumer wants.
  9. Nice hunt with some decent finds. I'm having some fun learning the abilities of an older unit also, the MXT.
  10. I think the pro bottle diggers quickly submerge dug bottles in water to help stabilize them. Not sure how they dry them.
  11. That's a tough test garden. Good for you on learning a new machine.
  12. Is the Disc/TID channel employed with XPs Two Box coil? My Garrett Blood Hound is strictly Non Motion All Metal.
  13. Do you think the conductive properties of any Alkali content mixed in with the iron mineralization of you soil is the cause of your single digit GB numbers? The strong mineralization may still be there effecting target ID with the conductive content lowering the GB point. I know I have to keep reminding myself that GB numbers are not a measure of mineral strength.
  14. A precise Ground Balance seems to be critical. How does the unit handle fast changing Ground mineral conditions? Do you have to manually re adjust as you hunt?
  15. Very nice. Quite a few of the best aspects of life are mis spent on youth.
  16. Should be a lot of history along the Upper Mississippi. That was THE Highway in the earliest days.
