  1. Cool find! It's pretty rare. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ScxJRpk7twU
  2. Well it's one half of two of a kind anyway. πŸ˜€ I defer to your assessment of its manufacture! πŸ‘
  3. Thanks Cap'n. πŸ™‚ It's a thin, small target that a lot of detectors would probably miss in all that junk. Shows the capability of the D2 IMHO. This isn't much of a hunt, but at least there is something of interest. 🀣 Just so @NCtoad doesn't feel alone. 😁 I'm glad to see he braved the heat a few times. πŸ†
  4. Got out day before yesterday early morning. A beach hunt totally skunked me, I've been keeping that small local beach clean. 🀣 Decided to hit this place that is incredibly trashy to see if I could find anything. There was a house here from recorded history (1917 topo) to about 2014. The last renters were rough on the place, the property owner evicted them and knocked the house down. I used historic aerials to get an idea of the area the house covered, looks like they had a shed and carport too: This is the spot now that would be facing the house. Tree on the left has a swing on it, about a year ago I dug a lot of older modern coins (no silver) and some interesting relics here. It was an incredibly humid and hot morning so I only spent a couple hours here, the grass cuttings were sticking to my shoes making snowshoes that were difficult to remove πŸ˜€ The last people here were very fond of alcohol apparently, the spot is loaded with aluminum bottle caps and other assorted junk. Lots of aluminum cans. I brought the Deus 2 with me as it does a great job ignoring iron, there is a lot of that here too. I used the XY screen in a modified General program, disc at 10. Listening to the tones and watching the graphic was very helpful but I still dug a lot of junk: The large nickel plated brass ring for example was a solid 93. πŸ˜€ Ended up with 5 3/4 pennies, 4 Zincolns and 2 copper memorials, oldest was 1974. I had found a bunch of wheats here last year but more modern coins. It's possible that this spot was cherry picked for silver. I searched around where the tree swing was again, and amid a lot of aluminum tones I got a faint but repeatable 91. Dug down about 6-8", and got half a sterling Fede Gimmel ring. Yay. It's the half that doesn't have the sterling Hallmark. This is the second of this kind of ring I've found hunting yards in this area, got a whole one last year which I am giving to the landowner with some other relics in a 3x5" Riker box. These date from the 1920's to the 40's, (before "925") maybe from a local jewelry store long gone. They have a pin holding them together and can be separated to share. Here's an interesting link about these: https://www.jewelryshoppingguide.com/gimmel-rings-guide/ Pretty scant hunt but at least I got silver. πŸ˜€ There ya go NC! 🀣
  5. I've been a bit of an over-promoter of this coil, but still haven't found much with other detectors after pillaging with this one. πŸ˜€ I'm now excited to see if it passes the "Steve Testβ„’" Good luck with it! πŸ‘
  6. Haha, yeah, went out yesterday in the morning and all I got was 5 and 3/4 cents and half a 1920s silver ring. 🀣 I'm pretty much living vicariously by this gentleman 😁
  7. Great hunt, KW. You're doing the Orx proud. πŸ‘
  8. Put a small zip tie around the coil clip, over the rubber band. That will make that connection tight. Cut the zip tie making sure you don't cut the band when you want to clean up. The other end is not as big a deal, just clip it according to the instructions. πŸ‘ I've used it like that since I got the Deus 2, never had a comm problem. If you do you might want to ask XP if you need a new coil or remote.
  9. True, and I probably made some others not follow where I go 🀣 Oh well, I enjoy your posts and hope they continue. πŸ‘ With a bit of work I may get some new permissions, travel is sparse this year, and I pretty much sacked the campgrounds I've been to already. If it wasn't for new clearing at one place my finds would have been pretty lean. πŸ˜€ Thanks!
  10. Heh, I've gotten so bored with my finds I'm treating Matchbox cars like vintage relics, posting dates and such. Your hunts show me all I'm missing 😏 I really admire your organization of finds and persistence, and very often you dig things I can only dream of finding! Any Hallmark on that knife? 🀣 Seriously, if it's made in the USA it could be worth something, or not... πŸ€” Honestly I'm glad anyone else on the forum is posting hunts and stories. I love new detectors but it always devolves. πŸ™„ I miss @dogodog@NCtoad, @ROCKINGCM, and many others. I'm wondering if the usual summer beach/relic hunters are not finding much? Like me? πŸ˜…
  11. Haha, I haven't been to a bonfire beach, but I have hunted burned house sites and am very familiar with molten aluminum, great sounding stuff! πŸ™„ As usual great hunt with lots of digging. The knife looks new. πŸ‘
  12. Hope someone will help out, turns out mine got broken while traveling
  13. I have them and have used them but not for diving, just generally in the water. On the beach too when it's raining.
  14. So far a really interesting post, GB. Seems like the detecting road trip of a lifetime! I'm sure you have many photos and great memories of this trip. Looking forward to future installments. Thus far my trips this year have been less than stellar, so I'm living vicariously. πŸ™‚ This seems to be a pretty lean year for finds.
  15. Buy an expensive holster for it like I did, you'll be too embarrassed to lose the tool. 🀣
  16. Welcome Tambo from the East coast of the USA. πŸ™‚ The Deus 2 is a great machine, I've been using it for a while now. There is a lot of experience with it on this forum, you've come to the right place. πŸ‘ How long have you been detecting? What sort of detecting do you do? Beach, relic, parks? All? πŸ˜€ I would caution you however about claiming an update to the Deus 2 without providing factual evidence. As soon as I saw this I looked at the XP website and they do not mention this version. πŸ™‚ Happy hunting and hope to see more from you.
  17. Mine was pulling dimes at the beach at 10" and possibly deeper, love that coil. I was definitely finding stuff others missed. Nice account! πŸ‘
  18. You have to have at least a blue or black USB port. If they're white they're too slow.
  19. You should notice it's easier to accurately locate a target; i.e. should be in the center. Also the target separation is phenomenal, and there isn't much or any loss of depth. I recover stuff at every bit of 12". It makes the detector much lighter, I see no need to take mine off. πŸ‘
  20. Ha, I remember it well. πŸ™‚ Been from Woods Hole to P-town. Nice place but water not friendly. 🀣 A lot of national seashore, is it off limits to detecting?
  21. How deep do you have to dig to retrieve some of this stuff? πŸ€ͺ I'm more of a pillager than a treasure hunter. Maybe I'll get that way, I have already stolen your presentation style πŸ€” Anzio beach comes to mind... The craters... πŸ˜€
  22. I'm outta likes today πŸ‘ I didn't go in the water at all, except to clean off the coil and give my feet a break. There was dangerous rip current all week, some of the waves were 6 feet or more. Lots of surfers out there! Didn't feel like getting bashed by a wave while concentrating on retrieval. πŸ˜€ Heck I wait for slack tide on the Potomac πŸ™„
  23. Last year I watched a fisherman reel in a 4 foot or larger bull shark on this very beach. 😬 I think that post is gone now but I may have put up a photo. If I wanted to swim I think I'd go in the pool. I definitely had the tides with me, it was low tide between 5 and 10am most of the week. The WS6 is an expensive pair of non-waterproof headphones, that was my point about them. The V2's are only $39, but hey. πŸ˜€ I sure wouldn't like to be the first headline about lightning while detecting! 🀣 I think someone did get struck there last week, but it might have been the rip, red flags were up every day.
  24. Never a problem with kidding, my friend. Honestly it makes some of my posts more interesting! πŸ™‚ As always, I invite questions, comments - and abuse. Have at it.
  25. Thanks VL, got some answers, very perceptive of ya. πŸ‘ It takes an hour to get out there because I'm married. I have to straighten out the RV, have coffee, walk the dog, get water and stuff together, and basically complete a regimen of old guy stuff. 😁 Then I throw all my gear on the golf cart and ride down to the golf cart parking lot next to the beach showers. Walk? 🀣 Next is a simple answer for rain - headphones. 😬 With the Equinox I'm using SoundBlaster Jam V2's, and with the Deus I'm using the $300ish WS6. Tough to replace those on a fixed income 😁 I hate wearing earbuds, and don't like over ear in the summer. Another reason is lightning, it would not be a good idea to be out there as the tallest thing on a strip of salty sand. πŸ˜€ At least most of the lightning rods I have in my hands are carbon fiber or PVC. 🀣 I did consider using the bone phones for the Deus. The wire is fairly long, but again... Lightning. πŸ€” These were thunderstorms, we were plagued with them all week, every day. Only time I ever refused a direct order in the military was when an officer told me to go out and adjust an antenna in a thunderstorm. It was peacetime training and I didn't think it would be a good idea to get killed for nothing. πŸ™„
