  1. 3 rings within 1h on the dry-sand - that deserves an extra thread for me, even if they're "just" silver Here's the first one (925): The second one has a mark, but I can't read it clearly. I think it's silver, too: And just when I thought the 14g was the most heavy one I've ever found, I found this lump of 925 : 37g .. holy smokeria Tone-wise I first thought it is a big lump of iron, but it was too small for that..
  2. Last time I had to chance to take a metal detector outside was about a month ago. FINALLY was able to plan for some detecting time Sunday morning. I'd been thinking about my G2+LTD audio profiling abilities, so I unpacked it Saturday night and go it ready to go for Sunday morning's hunt. Was hunting gold as always but was mainly into audio target size profiling so I was digging coins too. This was just another stinking zincoln signal. Boy was I surprised when about 3" down out pops a silver ring. 925 silver with a EC hallmark. Don't have any idea if the stones are real or not. Being silver I don't have my hopes up but you never know. Its like a starburst on the finger in the sunlight. I'll get it tested and find out. If they are real its ching ching. If not, it is still a $100 bill. HH Mike
  3. so why do coin dealers and jewelers tell us the retail price on our found jewelry is like $1,000 + and then they turn around and offer us pennies for it? I never understood this ?
  4. Getting a week at the beach for a little R & R and yes detecting. I must be honest my first day was not that grand (two zincs and a shell casing) with the Equinox 800. Hunted with the stock beach 1 program with no adjustments found very little in the way of nice finds. I had high hopes the beach was like it was a couple years ago, but sand had been hauled in and built up by maybe 5'. Even the wet slope didn't yield much in the way of finds. But decided to hunt the towel line the second day and found a matching set of earrings some 4" deep at the edge of where high tide and the towel line began. Talk about small, but the Equinox had no problem finding small targets.
  5. Ya ya, you're probably getting tired of all the "new Equinox just got gold" threads, but here is another. Same old tired cliche, first day out with new said wonder-machine, then BAM out comes a 8" deep, 1/4 ounce gold ring from a previously pounded location. Sigh. I mean come on, it was right under the soccer net, 4 feet from where I usually set down my drinking water. The place I stand when I look at other gold I find. The place that every newbie heads to. The place I did a tight over-lapping spiral around both posts with a Deus and a Lobo. The place that my 2 friends have detected on multiple occasions with a Deus and Etrac. Yet it was right there the whole time. I walked up to the net, dug a penny and thought "hmm, I'm surprised that is still there" but hey it is a multi-freq Mineslab right? No big deal, stranger things have happened. About 14"-16" away I get the almost identical signal, perhaps slightly jumpier, flickering 20-22 ID. I saw that soft edge golden glow in the bottom of the hole, I said "F-you don't be something or other" cause this place has gold toned aluminum scraps and beaver-tails that would make Peter Munk take a triple take. I thought the ring looked to be about 3-4 grams, my eyes almost bulged out of my head when I saw it weighed in at over 8 grams, a good size piece of alloy around here. It might be higher then 10K due to the heft, the mark is worn and my acids are expired so I will get it XRFed when I get a chance to stop in. This is my forth Mineslab and the third time something like this has happened. There was that week of silver running around town with a new Etrac, I also hit gold 45 minutes into a first water hunt when my Excalibur was new. My old friend deep 2 1/2" square nail is back, some of his big brothers too. They are a rough bunch to hang with but I usually get the old silver when they are around. For those wondering, the ring is a 22. I was in Park 2, 7 reactivity, sens21-22, multi-IQ
  6. Hey everyone... My focus this year is buffs, V's and war niks..... wasn't thinking of gold. I spent half day at one of my usual pounded Los Angeles parks. Got a little clad and 17 nickels in my pouch. This 600 knocks the cr_p out of nickels. I get another nickel signal (12/13) and dig approximately 4 inches. Because I've been fooled before by coins that initially appear to be gold, I didn't get too excited. But when I cleaned off the dirt and looked real close, I couldn't find any markings. So then I thought, some sort of fake gold or something. Even the white pearl in the setting was breaking down and I thought it was plastic. I did the magnet test at home and it passed but still not totally convinced.... heck this could be brass maybe, I thought? This morning I take it to a jeweler and he puts it through his tests. He says it's 18k. Says it looks made in Asia and markings worn or very old ring. Then another jeweler repeats the process and he concurs with the first jeweler. He then says, "I'll give you $40 for it". I asked, "what's it worth retail?"... he puts it on a scale and says "maybe $1,000 just for the gold". I think you know what I said next. They were interested in setting a new stone in place but I told them it's for my girlfriend and I'll let her handle it. I've made purchases here before so there were no hard feelings either way. Thanx for stopping in everyone and as always.... HH
  7. for finding the class ring but this mornings hunt produced this ticket in the first 1/2 hour. 8.9 grams marked au585 ?
  8. Hello and good week end to all !Went for a session this morning lots of eyes only searchers,i spend 2.5 hours digging on everything then end back to the exit stairs and decided to give a last go,i had victorian coins and yessssssss i strike GOLD so it is my 3rd precious metal finds in a row so well happy i havent clean it yet.But it hasn't been a while i striked gold like that . So the Lobo has proven again his abilities to find stuff in extreme condition .I am still looking for a 5.75 concentric for another lobo which i had had tuned to concentric. RR
  9. Wow, was I surprised. I thought I'd go out for a short hunt at about 11:30 PM and be back in a couple of hours. It turned out to be a lot more fun than that. As soon as I got to the beach I knew the conditions were pretty good but this 6" coil has been burning a hole in my floor since I used it on Saturday looking for nuggets. I gave it one day of rest and then I had to go use it on the beach. My first target was a dime. It sounded good and it was down about 3 inches. Not bad I thought for the little coil and then I came across a lot of pennies. Often times I won't dig them but I wanted to know how deep the coil could see them so dig, dig, dig. I was finding pennies at 6-7 inches with no problem. I know because the diameter of my sand scoop is 6 inches like the coil. After many pennies I wanted to get to a different part of the beach so I skipped them for a bit. When I got to where I wanted to be someone was up on the blanket line with their detector. I hunted along the wet sand in Beach 1 all out (25). I started finding some quarters. I worked my way down the beach and I looked up and saw a guy 25-30 yards ahead of me coming in my direction. (I ignore this guy because he doesn't fill his holes.) I turn back away from him to work my little section and I get an 8 signal. I dig down about 7 inches and I see the rose colored ring in the scoop. ( I don't know what is in this ring.) The other guy has just walked past me so I drop it in my pouch so he can't see it. I swing around the find area and about 20 feet away I get a 3 ... it is the Michael Kors belt buckle ring. (Fun to find but not worth much.) All along I'm finding more quarters and the $1 coin. I walk down to a beach I call Ring Beach but nothing to be found. On the way back I hunt a newly exposed area near where I found the two rings. I get a signal that jumps between 12 and 14 but never staying on 13. It turns out to be a 14/20 Toe Ring. So, now I have 3 rings with the smallest coil I've ever used on the beach. Something is going right. Along the way I find a fine chain. There were a couple of the quarters I dug that had to be 9 inches deep. It was a fun first time on the beach with the 6 inch coil but it won't be the last time. Mitchel
  10. for some water time. Hunting the main area of activity was a skunk so, before heading in I hit the fringes for my second gold of the year. 10.9 grams and has the same makers mark as the ring I recovered 2 days ago.
  11. Swinging along in the shallows this morning I eventually came across a coin spill. While the first scoop brought up a dime a couple other coins came to the surface along with what I at first thought was a twist off aluminum cap. Once in the scoop i realized it was a ring with a nickel stuck perfectly inside it giving the appearance of a cap. 4.6 grams marked 417. While I don't remember the TID with the nickel by itself it comes in 18-19 on the 800. The 14k 8.9 gram ring I got the other day read in the 20 to 22 range. the 35 cents in coin and a ring made for a nice "spill"
  12. My parents recently visited so I took my Dad out to the beach the day after Father's day. Keep in mind, he is a complete novice and usually only detects with me. Beaches have been sanded in, so I told him not to expect much. I was swinging the CTX 3030 with the 17" coil and he took the Equinox 600. After a quick initial setup, he was on his way to finding this...14k gold bangle bracelet, almost 25 grams! I was about a 1/2 mile down the beach so I didn't see the recovery. He said it was "loud" and about 6 or 7 scoops down (big stealth scoop). It was in the wet sand and waves kept on filling in his hole. It rings 13 on the Equinox 600 and 12:13 on the CTX. My wife usually has 1st dibs on all jewelry, but my Mom got this one. I have found beach 2 works best (more stable) for my local beaches, auto GB 0, Recovery 2 or 3 (depending on target concentration), iron bias 1, full tones, sens 21 or 22, no discrimination most of the time. The Equinox 600 out shined the CTX on this day as I only found about $2 in change. Looking forward to the 15" coil for big low tides and the 800 with 6" coil may also be in my future for heavier trash sites (on occasion).
  13. My first class ring of the year. I contacted a Nephew that happens to teach at the school and we will get it returned to one happy (and lucky) young lady.
  14. Last night after work i went to the beach with my ET for low tide , i got there at 9.20pm . Low tide was around midnight so i had some time to search down to low tide . I also searched the tops , for a while i found very little . There were quite a few people on the beach still after dark but i found some coinage . low down on the beach i had a 12 46 and found another Silver ring , probably a toe ring ? After that i did the tops but coinage was rare again . But in the dark i shone on an area of rubbish and saw a £10 note so that doubled my finds at the time. After finished that beach i went onto another beach next and found little but then on the tops i found a watch , doesn't fit my wrist or Mum's so will see if it fits my Nieces . I left the beach at 11.45pm as i was to tired to carry on and it was very warm and muggy , I was betting my swollocks off . I could almost wish for a storm to cool things off . I will be back there later today at 5pm in 2 hours time . Tide will be high so i will work it out again and hope for yellow. My finds yesterday were £25.73p , the ring and the watch .
  15. On Thursday/Friday 29-06-18 after finishing work at 9pm Thursday i went to the beach when the weather was very warm , i searched from 1am to 7am and found £37.25p , a Silver ring , a 50 Euro Cent , a US Cent and another small foreign coin , a 13000 mah Power bank , a nail file and a pen . When i got home i had to go to London Guy's Hospital with Mum on the 10.30 Bus then a Train so Mum could go to see her Surgeon at 2.30pm that will be operating on her right Lung which is possibly Cancerous but they cannot be sure of it in a few weeks time . She definitely has a lump in her Lung so being she has had Breast Cancer in the past we can assume it is Cancer. We got home from there at around 9pm and stuffed into take away Fish and Chips . Saturday i worked. Today Sunday 1st July was a really warm day here in the UK and the beaches i go to to detect were heaving big time . I went early at 4pm to see if i could hunt for rings low down and i would hunt the dry tops later when the crowds cleared a bit . Well i started at around 4pm and searched the lower beach in the surf as the tide went out being careful not to drop ET in the oggin , not long into the search i found a small Silver ring and had some coins turn up too . I occasionally searched some spots on the tops which were clear of crowds and found more . At about 7pm i was disturbed by a Romanian woman that her Husband had lost his Wedding ring , she said its the same as hers at 14k and hers read 12 16 on the ET . So for a while i searched for the ring where he said he lost it but didn't find it . So for a while i kept looking for other stuff and found more coinage and another small Silver ring . After a while another detectorist turned up and the man that lost the ring asked him if he could look for it , he was using an older XP machine so as i didn't want him to find it as it would have been embarrassing for my ET i got stuck in looking for it again . The couple were obviously thinking that the ring was lost and had started to leave the beach when i had a 12 15 on my ET , i dug the target and i saw it was the ring . But it wasn't where he said it was . I shouted i have found the ring and they came back to me . He said he was going to give me a reward and gave me £50 . I think that he was happy just to have the ring back , being their rings were the same except for size . After that i went hunting for more rings and had another bigger Silver ring and a junk ring , when the crowds cleared a bit more i did the dry and found more coinage . It is harder than in the past now most people use cashless means of payment but today was quite good though not as good as a few years ago when i could score a ton through the night . I could have stayed through the night but my knees are getting a bit knackered for that and by 11 pm i was knackered so called it a day . My total for this search was including the reward £94.34p , a US Cent , a 20 Euro Cent , 3 Silver rings , a junk ring and the returned Gold ring . Thats the first Gold ring i have found that was found with my present ET and my first 14k . The picture of the Gold ring is taken by my phone on my upturned rucksack. I would go to the beach on Monday but i have other things to do so my next search is next Friday night or Saturday .
  16. I hit the water early again this morning to see what the weekend crowd might have left. Targets were sparse with 2 bling earrings and the nemesis of water hunters in a Tungsten ring. At 17.7 grams I can understand why it flew off the wearers finger, would have made a nice chunk'O gold. ? I have started to pass up the new bottle caps. Have not dug a one that didn't bounce erratically reading Iron/15-21 or there about. T
  17. No it is not a monster, but the young lady was quite happy to get it back. I always enjoy hugs and good Karma too. She is all smiles as I hand over her lost 14K yellow gold with diamond engagement ring. Equinox 600 did its job. Have you ever found a ring and returned it? Lets hear your story and see some photos if you have them.
  18. As some of you know I underwent my second hip replacement 4 weeks ago at the ripe old age of 52 which has short circuited any detecting at all. Rehab has been going well though and I'm way ahead of where most folks are at this stage. I was able to ditch my walker after two days post surgery and have been since working up to taking a walk on the beach much less detect. All that changed today as I got a call from a young man who had lost his wedding ring on Saturday just on the north side of the Ventura Pier. He lost it in the dry sand and wondered if I could come out and help him find it. Since school is officially out for the summer I decided to throw caution to the wind and go. My concern was walking in the dry sand as a newly recovering hip doesn't like the variability of highs and lows that dry sand brings. When i met him he explained that he was putting sunscreen on his young son, took the ring off and placed it on his son's shirt. A moment later he got dive bombed by a group of seagulls hunting for a grubstake and a seagull took off with the shirt and sent the ring flying. He tried to find it but as you know gold sinks and the sand isn't your friend unless you have an Equinox 600!! I drew a 20x20 box in the sand and proceeded to detect and bam, got a nice 20-22 solid sounding tone and into my scoop came this beautiful rose gold wedding ring. So I'm one for one on my first day back detecting. Truth be told the dry sand is a bit much for me right now so my batting average may remain 1.000 for a while as I can't see myself bending down to dig 50 plugs in a park yet but man it was great to get out and do some good finally. Those of you who know what it's like to find someone's lost jewelry know it's a great feeling and put's you on a high for the rest of the day so i'm going to hold to that for awhile. Best Skate
  19. This morning at 5am i had a few hours to do the beach with the Nox before going to the Hospital to meet Mum who was having a scan and biopsy on her right Lung which is likely to have Cancer. At 5am the tide was almost out and as the tides are long at the moment i wanted to only do the sand which exposes only at long tides mostly . 3 weeks ago i heard of a 14k Gold ring lost by a foreigner from Germany and i was hoping to find it . But today the weather has been windy and the sea has been running a bit higher than wanted . As soon as i got there i knew it would be hopeless today so carried along the beach on the sand that was exposed further up . Mostly it was quiet but no long before i got to the end of that section of beach i had a very high tone in the mid 30's TID and thought Silver or Aluminium ? so i dug and out came a 13.3g Silver band . In the same area i found £2.40p of coinage including 2 old style Pound coins . I started back along the beach again and then i came across a target reading 17 in a mid tone , i thought Aluminium again as many of those number between 17 and 20 are Aluminium but as i was on the sand i would dig anyway . And was i glad i did . In the first spade full in saw a glint of Gold , i picked it up and it was a 22k 8.8g Gold ring . After that i found only a Lead fishing weight and as i was around 7.30am i thought time to go , the tide was coming up and the sand was covering quickly . Tomorrow i will go again for low tide and take the Nox and this time have my chest waders on and a scoop with me . Time to find that 14 k , i wont be going for coinage so if i dont find the ring or a ring i wont have a report but i will be going into the water up to my knees at least , would go further but the current is strong and wearing waders is risky . I cant be sure but i think i was using Beach 1 in my settings for the rings and swapped over to 2 in the water . I checked on my E.Trac and the Gold ring read 12 27 . I have now had 2 Gold rings and 15 Silver rings so far .
  20. This little beauty came out of another patch. This particular patch is an elementary school's wood chip playground that is adjacent to a park. I found my first gold ring ever there back in 2005. (I think it was 2005, might have been 2006 as I think it took me nearly 2 years to find my first gold ring). Over the years this patch has yielded some nice finds. It dried up after a while and I put it on a 6 month cycle. I found this ring there yesterday morning. 10k gold. About a size 7 I think. Ring is marked 10k and CZ so the stones are probably cubic-zirconia. Very pretty. My wife laid claim to this one for Mother's Day. HH Mike
  21. I was never much for finding modern coins or hunting newer ballfields but I think my mindset has changed after taking a break from detecting for several years. I sure like finding relics, buttons, and an occasional coin hunting in the woods but 1 or 2 brass buttons in several hours, while really exciting, doesn't buy cofee or cause my wife to encourage me to go out and detect more ? I hit a local soccer field with only an hour till dark and found a few bucks and my first jewelry in a while.
  22. Stopped at a friend's house for a night's stay, and his wife saw that I had brought a metal detector along on our way to move to FL. She mentioned that her husband had lost his wedding ring about 6 years ago while spreading mulch in the front yard. He had his son look one time, but he was using a cheap detector I guess. I tried swinging for about 15 minutes in the flower bed, but there was an iron border that was not playing nicely with detecting. I even got down on my hands and knees and just used my pinpointer to no avail. So, why not try the well-manicured lawn! I had the sensitivity lowered to about 12, and there were no signals when in the grass. I guess that's why the consistent ID of 15 stood out so much. After digging a small plug, the ring popped out on the first hole. I wish I was videoing his reaction... priceless. He had just gotten done saying to my wife that he would give me $200 if I found it. He actually cut me a check for $200, but I left it with him when we left. I told him to keep it as a token of thanks for letting me detect along the way to FL on our move. That's 2 gold rings that have ID'd at 15 for me, the usual number for pull tabs.
  23. My Sister-In-Law who normally uses a Minelab Sovereign, wanted to go metal detecting at the beach with me over the weekend at a real sanded in beach, also lots of black sand. I figured one of my PI's would be too frustrating for her to use so I let her use my Equinox 600. I set her up in Beach 1 sensitivity 23, 5 tones, iron bias 1, recovery 3 (equal to 6 on the 800) and GB 0. I used my GPX 4000 since I hadn't run it for a while. We hunted the wet sand about 25 feet up from the water line. After about an hour I had dug a few pennies, a nickel, some lead bullets/sinkers and some shallower can slaw. She walked over to me and said she really hadn't found anything but foil and pieces of aluminum, which didn't surprise me because all of the coins I had found were 12 inches plus deep. So I suggested that I would go ahead of her and mark some targets and then have her go over them with the 600 and see what to listen for. I had about 8 targets marked and told her to start going over them and we would listen to the signals. Some of the targets she couldn't get a signal at all, which I expected since I was using a PI. But I told her to go ahead and dig them because I knew something was down there. Of the 8 holes she dug 2 pennies, a nickel, a piece of copper wire, a spark plug, a few pull tabs and a small 18k ring. She was impressed at how much deeper the PI was vs the 600. Now the interesting thing we found was that on these really deep targets, the Equinox could get some of them but they were usually one way signals and read much lower that they would out of the ground. For instance the pennies were reading in the 6-8 range. On the small 18k gold ring the Equinox was coming up with a erratic 1-2 and she said that's what the foil had been reading so she stopped digging it. I told her to dig it anyway because it was too deep to be foil in my opinion. Boy was she surprised when it ended up being a gold ring. From the size of the hole we figure the ring was about 10-11 inches deep. BTW the ring read a solid 6 on the Nox out of the ground. This was a good reminder to me that as with most detectors, when targets are at the fringe of the detectors depth capabilities, we really do need to dig everything at the beach or we're going to miss gold.
  24. Hello i managed to do a hunt before the month end and managed a bit of gold didn't find gold there for ages...........last time was with a Tejon and a Tesoro 5.75 DD so as i had a retuned lobo on DD only i decided to put the coil to work ...did have much hope but the coil was hitting medium size targets hard...........headphone 1 broke down but i had my Sunray pro gold as back up,the other pair has been designed and manufactured by the same engineer as the Manta and are the best sounding headphones i ever had ,soldering on mine need help :).I found buttons and a lead seal ,few coins and then i hit gold only my second bits this year ,the other was 200 yards away from this spot(which i believe once hold a floating barge/bar) with the GMP equiped with the snake coil. The lobo hit that ring very well but as i was just retuning from changing headphones i am glad i found it. Overall i cracked my bermudas, need to repair my headphones and say bye bye to my PROTECTOR kneepads after 100s hours of use ,weather was good and the ring seems old. RR
