  1. I don't have words to describe what the last couple months have been. I just know that finally I hitted this morning one ring over a wine red clay, after two days In a new spot, freediving with heck of rough water yesterday and quitted for real unacceptable danger. I fighted against the monkey since last August end and finally won this morning... I don't care the weight and the numbers, I just want to enjoy the shine again as a therapy. I hug You all.
  2. I'm pretty much a blind squirrel when it comes to the beach hunting thing. This trip totaled about 6 hours over the course of 3 days. Thanks to all you beach members, I've managed to pick up on a few things. I was in the dig it all mode, being not that confident in my sand skills. Did I mention that I hate bottle caps? They sound even better in the sand!!! I was mostly hunting the wet/dry edge and was just enjoying the early morning sunrise. This day I was on a tear of sinkers and caps. Still having fun being away from work though. At 9:00 am my wife came down and joined me for a before breakfast walk. She asked if I found anything good and answered with the usual, Nope just crap. We walked another 20 feet and I got a really nice strong soft tone. Thinking sinker, I started to dig with my homemade plastic scoop. Let me just say DO NOT have your wife with you when you find something really good, It never works out in your favor. In my scoop was a wonderful diamond ring (wasn't to sure at the time) After I rinsed it off a little and felt the weight I knew I had something good. Oh yes she promptly removed it from my death grip!!! After getting home from our trip I took it to a jeweler friend, who offered me $5500 for the diamonds, said I could keep the platinum. Turns out it was a vvs1 1.2 carrat main stone and 8 very nice 2mm stones. Lucky for me my wife said she would keep it (god help me) I haven't seen it since.
  3. i was showing a co-worker a minelab Go-Find 22. he knows nothing about detectors and was interested in how they work. i was explaining the difference between the four symbols on the display when a lengthy conversation ensued about detectors in general. he was amazed to hear about all the things they can find and have found for people and the technology inside the machines. suddenly he declares, "hey, if you know all this stuff can you tell if something is actually gold? i bought a used car and found something stuck in the floor boards. give me 2 mins and i'll run and grab it." now, this co-worker is a young college kid just getting started in life. money is tight, apartment is small. so when he handed me this and i showed him how to check it, explained the karat system, gold spot price, grams, and got it weighed, he was VERY happy. made my whole day. item = 14K pendant + 14K chain both from Kay Jewelers. 10.7g @ $35.71 per gram as of yesterdays spot price -bryan
  4. As you rotate the ring you see it is "silver" on one side and "gold"(ish) at 180 degrees. At 90 degree it is a transition from silver to gold. Kinda cool actually. I have never seen one like it. It has a makers mark inside as well as Tungsten and China. It rang up at 18 on the Equinox.
  5. Hi everyone 😎 Hope y’all are doing well, This wasn't the best year personally and as such, I only got to hunt a couple weeks( one hour in early morning and sometime one hour in night) Here’s pics and thank you for reading and looking at my post🙂 Well, many scientists are confused about the secret and source of geomagnetism. there're many planets much larger than the earth, but they have no magnetic field at all. So, what's the secret behind geomagnetism? about 300 years ago, the queen of England's physician; William Gilbert, said something out of mere geussing, he said "The Earth moves as if it had a magnet within!" That was mere guessing, without any scientific proof. Hundreds of years before that, the chinese had invented the compass, it's a chinese invention. Then, the compass was use in Europe, where it had a great role in developing navigation. Yet, people remained confused about why the compass always points to the North. It was suggested the polar star might be pulling it in that direction, which is not logical, because if it were true, the compass needle'd be directed upwards, but actually, it's the apposite; it points downwards. Secondly, a compass doesn't point to the polar star att all. Compass dont point to the polar star and dont point to to the actual geographical North, either, rather, the point to something ele; the magnetic North pole. The difference between both is about 4 degrees. The polar star has nothing to do with compasses. So, what's the atory? It has took several years for technology to be progressed enough to allow the establishment of modern geomagnetism observatories where accurate studies are carried out. Later on, Scientists started talking about the center of the earth, where there's a central core of liquid iron, circulating deep down, which is associated with Earth's cycle of movement. That is the liquid iron circulates as Earth evolves. That circulating liquid iron contains convection currents. Those currents within that melted, liquid iron, whose temperature is very high, act like a coil which once electricity gors through it can magnetize iron rods in this case, the ferrous earth center gets magnetized, resulting in the Earth acting like a magnet with a magnetic fild, exactly like the magnetism experiments all learn and do at school. 6. It's been a long dry spell since doing well this spring on the gold. Today I was out with the Nox 15" coil at a local park. This rang up a solid 11-12 in Park 1. Can't find one like it with a movable head.
  7. Hurricane Marie generated some good swells and moved sand at several southern California beaches. I got gold at 2 of the 4 beaches I hunted but not as many targets as I would have expected from the size of some of the cuts. I see that a couple of other forum members also did well from Marie which was an unexpected but welcome surprise. After finding a few dollars in clad and a small, 1.8 gram 14K gold ring at the first beach I hunted, I tried a couple other beaches that didn't yield much before driving to beach #4. This beach had a nice deep cut but, again, not nearly as many targets as a cut that size could have produced. Perhaps someone had beaten me to the punch earlier but I didn't see any signs of digging. Late in the hunt I scooped out a target and was shocked to see half of a bracelet in the mound of wet sand. It had the famous Cartier circles on the perimeter of the bracelet but I have found so many fakes with those same circles before. The bracelet also had a funny color to it so I tried not to get too excited about it even though it felt pretty weighty and was stamped "AU 750". When I got home I realized that the bracelet was rose gold and it acid tested at 18K. On the internet I found out that Cartier jewelry is one of the most copied in the world but the bracelet seemed to pass all the checkpoints that determine its authenticity including its weight which was half of the typical 30 to 37 grams for a complete bracelet. At first I thought that it would be nice to find the other half and have the bracelet repaired. I still would love to find the other piece but it probably won't need to be fixed. The 2 halves are actually screwed together with permanently mounted screws. That's probably why the person that lost it didn't remove it since it is a bit of a hassle to do so. Of course, the downside is that you better make sure that those screws are fastened properly and checked periodically. Sorry for the lengthy post but pretty excited about this one. My hunting friend doesn't think it's likely that I'll find the other half but the way this year is going I wouldn't be totally shocked (well, maybe a little). GL&HH!
  8. Last night I went to a beach that yielded a lot of targets. On my 6 hour hunt from 8 PM to 2 AM I got 51 quarters, 40 dimes and nickels, 54 pennies (one wheat), 2 silver rings and one 10k gold ring. There should have been more rings! The trash was another 50 pieces or so. When you figure it is 4-5 scoops per target (1000 total) then it adds up to a stiff back in the morning. I found the gold ring 2/3rds of the way through the session about the time the fog started rolling in which made for an enjoyable sight as it covered up the normal lights but there was still a mostly full moon above. I was using the 15 inch coil and when I started I was down a couple of notches from full power. I thought there would not be much on the beach but I was wrong and kept pushing along finding some high cuts. Near the end of the session the detector was nearly out of power and I could hear a lessening in my headphones. Something I've wanted to say about the 3.0 update is that it really makes the quarters crackle. I don't think I remember them like that before and I wish they would be a little more 'solid' but perhaps it is because of the sandwich metals.
  9. Got out while the water is still warm enough in the ocean for a wet suit, out at chest to chin deep was a slight slope/hole which held old targets. all targets were weak signals except for the new clad on top. Best of it was a 9K signet ring from Chester England. With all the stamps on the inside small portion of the ring there are 2 more on the large portion of the ring witch is solid not hollow. The small dark coin is a Merc. the other ring is Brass.
  10. Today 3 Hours and 23 Minutes. tides were low so I went deep...signals were far and few between for over a hour. Decided to move in a few cuts and things picked up. Plenty of coins which are a good sign. Most signals were in the 12 to 14 inch range in a hard shell, sand , clay mix. All gave good signals and I was kind of surprised how deep some were. No faints today.. other then the few I found hunting out deep. Settings volume 8, all metal, delay 11, sensitivity 6, threshold 4 to 5. ATS 6.... Todays treasure ...one 10k....one 14k..2 silver dimes. Batteries coming along, taking each out for a short hunt...then a full charge and shipping... Have 4 going out this week coming. Should be 4 the following week also, so I will be contacting several of you AQ Pirates' on the details. Think I have a list of 15 and should be able to fill all with in the next month, order 56 more 18650 batteries.....Taking a break after that...
  11. WInds and tides have been bad the last week along with other projects keeping me busy. So to mix the project side of it I took CDV's battery out for a test spin Weds. Not a lot of targets but scored the 10k Class ring early. As soon as I walked out I got a buffalo, small medallion then the gold ring. The AQ seems to dislike silver even in All metal mod...but loves nickels..both medallions are brass. Gold #22 for the AQ..depth on the 8.4 10k I could have sworn 2 feet but measured around 16 inch's..
  12. Finally after 13 days with the AQ, I struck gold. 2 grams of 18K to be exact. A nice little Hamas. The only hallmark is an 88 inside a circle but it test 18K with my tester. It also reads a solid 13 on my Equinox. With my beaches basically sanded in and unfavorable tides, I have just been hitting the high tide line with a bit of dry also mainly just getting used to the AQ. It is like a combination of my TDI Pro and Dual Field. Very quiet and stable too. My first hunt produced a silver ring as also did my second hunt. My third hunt gave me two silver earrings. The past couple of hunts was primarily junk with no precious metals. Today I just took my wife to her favorite beach and of course when she was ready to go we had a rising tide with strong wave action. LOL Thanks for looking! Joe
  13. Found this tiny 1.1 gram 18K in the wet sand over the weekend. Looks like diamond chips all around the band but too small to test. Bob K
  14. Tried a different lake today and only found a couple of dollars in clad but got my 6" coil over another gold chain. Shockingly to me, this one was also closed up and rang up a solid "1" TID. I had company as 2 other hunters got within 20 feet of me in a swim area that was ,at least, an acre in size. Seems like bad form to me but at least the one guy moved away when I said something to him. I didn't say anything to the other since I had just found the chain and crucifix which reminded me to be a little more tolerant and he moved on a short time after. Loving the Nox for fresh water and wished I felt the same way about at the beach but those "Beach" modes on the Nox just aren't working for me- yet. GL&HH!
  15. Found a beautiful little diamond ring, probably CZ. It says Avon sterling but there is a little chip that looks like it’s plated. Does anyone know if Avon sterling jewelry is .925 silver?
  16. Thought id throw up a couple more finds from the month. Things have kept me out of the water the past 3 months...... then we had the storm. Seems everyone went home now as well so we are just getting locals and a handful of tourists now. Still busy with hunters with our warm water.....so its getting picked clean. Got more young guys getting into it with the local FB page now as well who are doing pretty well.
  17. I got out for nice long hunt with the AQ. I found quite a few targets to keep me busy. Five of the rings are junk and the other two silver. One of the silvers has real diamond chips. The gold ring came towards the end of the hunt and weighs 4.7g. I have found 5 gold rings with the AQ and a small pendant, so not too bad. Thanks for looking and happy hunting.
  18. I got out today for a little exercise and to give the Equinox a workout also since it’s been a while since I last took it out. I can honestly say it didn’t disappoint. I only did dry sand since it was high tide. The large gold ring and the pendant are marked 14k. The little one isn’t marked but I’m guessing is 10k. The last ring of the bunch is copper and gave me the same VDI as a penny. I found $9.75 in clad and it was thanks to a pocket spill of $2.47. Thanks for looking and stay safe out there. HH
  19. Some beach erosion and high waves from Sally brought these into detector range. One silver and 3 gold. Two are 14K, and the other is 10K. About 8 hours total over 2 days. Three rings on the first day and one on the second day. I went back on the third day and all was sanded in again. I don't know what the gemstone is in the ring. Not a diamond. Bob K
  20. Took the MK for a spin to a different park, spent about an hour or less. First find came in slightly above a beaver tail. 10k ring with some diamond chips and looks like amathyst.
  21. With lifeguards gone Kids gone cooler weather and the lowest water level in years, fresh water I was out chin deep in what it seems to be undetected area. all targets were very deep and have been there for a long time. The Irish ring is stamped 375, the locket 585, and the blue ring 14k and I have not cleaned the 14k at all it is tarnished or stained. All found with TDI BH but I did mark the area that the locket came from to return with my Nox to try and find the chain.
  22. Been almost a week since I've been out, lots has happen but things are settling back down so I got 3 hours out today. Been watching the winds and tides and I felt safer grabbing the excalibur. Once there I seen I could have taken the AQ..water was very nice...North winds of 10 mph blew the water out so I was drinking the old bay waters today....Seems like all I was getting was silver coins and nickels until I moved in a little closer to shore..then once I got away from the hard bottom out came the 1968 Class ring. The two white gold rings are from last Saturday's hunt at this same beach......This spot seems the coins are out deeper on the hard pan, and the rings are in right as the slope starts with the sand. There use to be crab pot buoys that helped me navigate this spot but they messed me up and pulled them early this year... The bracelet top is 1/20GP had me going until I got home and seen the edge was black with small bubbles
  23. I looked at my Equinox 800 screen when I heard it. This Sound had potential. It was not like the familiar sounds of pennies, quarters and even the nickels. The screen read 9 and that had Potential too. I swung over it in a couple of directions and it still had a solid 9. Then you dig. Still a 9 and a good sound as you go down 3-4-5 inches to the patch layer. Then it is in the scoop and you look down in the dim light and you don't see a coin. You can see a shape and the wire mesh too! That is real POtential. I turn on my light and voila it's a ring and its yellow! POTENTIAL! When I got home I looked it over. It is not the best ring that I've ever found but it was the BEST and only ring I found last night. It is 10k/RL/CZ/BOUVIA. Potential realized. Now, this is the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say. Last night was a hunt pattern that I have repeated before. It is a normal beach detecting pattern for me. I put my son to sleep about 8 PM and when he is sleeping a couple of hours I get up and detect the beaches for 4 hours or so. The beginning was the same with parking and beach entry. After walking about half a mile I could see a detectorist light up ahead working the beach. I could not tell which direction they were working but I knew this spot. It could be good but I was going to let them have it. I walked off the wet sand into the dry and avoided the spot for quite a distance and then I dropped back down to the beach. Someone had been to this portion of beach before me but they were gone or it had been the detectorist I avoided. I could not see them any more and no one was in front of me so I relaxed and looked for the clues. Pretty soon I found a coin. I circled and found another. I saw some recent (within 2 hours) unfilled dig holes and I included those in my pattern and then in my grid. The picture emerged and I could see the beginning and finally the end of the patch. It was a small patch this time but I'll take it. No one came across me while I was working this patch. There were no seagulls. I hope this happens for you on your patches.
  24. Sometimes when you go out detecting the very first targets are the best and the remainder of the hunt you keep trying to do better. That was the way I felt last night. I headed out to a pretty much energyless beach and my first target was a heavy ring. I was thinking about Joe when I found it as it was 'trapped' in a little bit of soft sand just before the hard-pan drop off. I looked at it with my light, felt it and thought about it the remainder of the night. The title of the post was going to be "The First Target Was The Best!" haha Things have a way of changing as we detect. I headed down my beach and went a long distance before I found another ring. Once again I was not the first one on the beach. Someone had cherried the slopes a bit and I had to play clean up. This I did and to my surprise I found 3 more cheap rings. These were obvious to me. Then when I got to my turnaround spot I came upon the final ring. It was not really part of a patch but it was on a beach where I've found some nice rings so I'm careful and thorough when I'm there. It turned out to be the best ring but I didn't know it at the time. Now for the results. The first target ring had a golden color in my beach light and I thought it would be the best band I've found this year. It is heafty at 11.11 g but it turns out the color is platinum. It also turns out that it is 'white tungsten' which means it only has platinum plating. It's not worthless but certainly not a gold or platinum band. The other rings are still cheapies but the final ring is a 2.25 g/10k nugget ring! It was a pleasant hunt with reasonable results. The pendant says Dragonfly. And then there is the rest.
  25. I got a chance to go out on a couple of hunts this week and the best things I found were this little 10K/1.28 g Gold Ring, a 4 g Silver Ring and this 4 oz Lure. I think the lure is the most expensive! The little ring was a challenge as it was down about 5 inches and I had forgotten I had my F2 on at 5 from an experiment. With that setting the quarters sounded funny and I was about ready to do a factory reset when I discovered the 'problem.' I was using the 15" coil so I consider it a good get for the small target that read 6. Mitchel
