My TDIBH got here door to door from the USA in 6 days which is great....thanks again to Gerry at Gerry's Detector's ! I did some basic tests on my back lawn (which is devoid of any metallic targets to at least a metre). I did notice that no GB was needed which is what I would expect but interestingly if the GB was left at "4", the detector would barely detect my gold ring. As soon as the GB was turned higher or lower, then the ring was detected at great distance. I know I can run with no GB (straight PI) but the depth was slightly improved with GB engaged. I am wondering that when I hit the beaches, which down here are generally mineral/black sand free, where should I leave the GB if it's not required? I will most likely bury a target and dial in the GB (assuming it's not actually needed for a proper GB) which gives the best response but I am very wary of a setting that might not see the target ! I am new to the TDI SL platform so any tips is much appreciated. Thanks, Tony

I took my Whites TDI SL with both the stock 7.5" dual field coil and the 8"x6" NUgget Finder coil, as well as my Minelab GM 1000 out and tried them on some small 1.7 grain and 7.4 grain pieces of lead i use for testing. The minelab found both easily and at over 2" on the small one. The Whites wouldn't pick up either one with either coil. I am liking the Monster more and more. But was wondering? Should the Whites do better than it did?

White's for the past couple years, I was told, has been working on an up graded battery pack for the TDI SL which will allow it to operate at to 14 volts or more. There is plenty of "home made" stuff out there that seems to work very well but I keep waiting for a factory product that should have been out by now. I'm just a breath away from buying a reputable model from a guy making /selling them on eBay. Has anyone heard anything concerning this matter from White's? They sure can make it tough to be a loyal customer.

Greeting everyone I was looking for a coil to use on the beach with my TDI SL. Mainly I was looking for stock 12 "dd but I did not find anything used, I have the 7.5dd and I consider that for hunting on the beach it is too small. I found online the" scarab mono 18 "x14" from pmcoils. I have not seen any information on this coil, I was mainly looking for a DD because I had the dual field of surfmaster for a while and it went very well with those coils, but I could give the mono coil a chance if he found any positive information. . If some use this coil or know some information, I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks

Hello everyone. I have a question about the model of a 7.5 "white coil for the TDI, it does not have labels that differentiate the dual field of the mono. I am a beach hunter and I think if it is the mono I would not do it well. I have seen images online and the only noticeable visual difference is the color of the cable, one is darker than the other. Any ideas?

An acquaintance has asked if I'd help him find some shotguns he buried several years ago. They are wrapped in oilcloths, sealed in PVC pipes (~3 in = 7.5 cm diameter) and buried about 20 inches (half meter) deep according to him. He says he can show me the approximate location within about 10 m. If all this is accurate it seems like an easy task.... Then again, he also said someone in his family (without him being present) tried to find them with a detector and couldn't. That could be due to a lot of reasons as I'm sure you are already thinking, but my concern is that they may be buried more deeply than he remembers. Which of the following would be your first choice? 1) TDI/SPP with 12 in round mono and 16 V battery pack. 2) X-Terra 705 w/15 in Coiltek 3kHz. 3) Gold Bug Pro (19 kHz) w/15 in Nel Attack. 4) F75 black (13 kHz) w/11x7 in^2 coil operating in cache process. Assuming he has the time and patience I'm going to have all four with me to do a comparison, but I'd like to start with the one that gives me the best chance. Your advice is appreciated.

ran into an old friend yesterday he asked what I had been up to told him I do a lot of metal detecting and he said he has a whites TDI that he says he has used vary little he ask me if I would be interested in purchasing it from him because he says it just sits there collecting dust I asked him how much he wanted site unseen and he told me he would let me have it for $150 he says he has had it since 2010 said he purchased it new,I do not know anything about whites to know if thats a good price for a used one or not. is there different versions of that particular detector that I should be aware of when I go look at his or is there only one version are there any potential issues the TDI had from that year that I should be aware of also i am supposed to go look at it on Monday so thats why I am asking don't want to waist my time if its not worth it,its a long drive so just trying to decide whether to take the drive or not Thanks for reading

Have been given a TDI SL and I'm not that keen on the 11' spider mono coil attached . ( mainly the sticks and debris that get caught up ) Detecting in heavily mineralised ground in the Golden Triangle Australia and it was suggested that I purchase a used 12"/14" Coiltek Goldstalker mono round . Any thought on that please.!!!!! I run a SDC2300 and soooon a Equinox ????? . The TDI will just give me a little extra depth to go wandering away from the diggings . I think that is what the last full retail price was before they were discontinued. To be fair, sometimes (often?) Ebay auctions turn into grudge-match ego infused bidding wars. (This happens in face-to-face auctions, too.) My rule-of-thumb is to use the 3rd highest bidder's final bid to determine value in highly contested auctions. That price here is $1255.55. I guess White's just wasn't selling enough of these or they wouldn't have ended production. The TDI-Pro certainly has its diehard followers/supporters/users, but I guess you could say that about most decent products.

You might be thinking, what is the big deal, but... This dime came from a hunted out site using the TDI and the OZ 12" coil. The coil was loaned to me by GB_Amateur aka Steve. I have been hunting this small area, maybe 50' x 100' for over 2 years. This site has given up many silver and copper coins. The site has also been hunted by two of my hunting buddies using the CTX 3030, Whites DFX, Fisher F75 and of course the TDI. The OZ coil is super deep in this area and extremely stable. I also dug over 10 nice large nails prior to finding this dime. I must admit I had been purposely looking for only the deeper sounding targets and ignoring the shallow one. I might add one more thing, all the nails sounded about the same, but I dug anyway. On the other hand the dime sounded strange compared to the nails. Can't explain the actual sound, but hope to soon, hear it again. If possible I might try to record the actual audio and post for all to hear. May be a few days before getting to hunt again, weather will turn much colder this weekend. Thanks again Steve.

Over ten years ago I was pushing pretty hard on the idea that high power pulse induction detectors would eventually find use for more than just nugget detecting. Relic hunters in bad ground seemed a particularly obvious situation where PI detectors could pick up where the VLFs left off. Daniel TN just made a great post over at Dankowski’s about the shift from VLF to PI, and how the PI use progressed up the power ladder from Garrett Infinium to White’s TDI to Minelab GPX. I ended up calling this Steve’s Law Of Target Depletion. The basic premise is that if high value targets exist, people will start with discriminating VLF detectors and dig the easy targets. However, knowing good finds remain, over time more trash is dug and more powerful detectors used. As long as any chance of a good find remains, this progression will ultimately deplete a good location of all targets, good and bad. Prospectors see this all the time. A location will start with trash and gold. VLFs cherry pick out the easy stuff. Then the “dig it all” troops go to work. Sooner or later you get to where just finding a target, any target, gets to be a challenge. Yet as long as a single target remains, good finds still might happen. If nothing else the trash can hide good targets lurking below, and so even trash remaining can be a good sign. You can never call a place detected out until no targets at all remain in the ground that can be found. And even then, a newer, more powerful detector may make the place come to life again, at least for a time.

One of our dealers sent me this email today. NO I don't know the guy's name and YES if I find out who it is you can be damn sure I will try and get permission to go detecting with him next time: "My customer, (who would like to remain anonymous) a Southern Oregon Gold Dredger that loves to be out in our mountains all year round. He spends his summer weekends in the water with his dredge. A few years ago, he decided to try his hand at Metal Detecting the ground his has been traipsing over for 25 or 30 years. We discuss his options. He has had an MXT for years, but for Placer Gold it just wasn’t going to avoid the hot rocks and cover the tuff ground that he wants to look in. I sent him out with my demo GMT and my personal TDI SL. Clearly the TDI SL was the right choice for his highly mineralized ground. So the machine was decided. He also wanted the right coil for HIS ground. He works a lot of shallow bedrock, also right on the edge of the creek and up the bank often following bedrock. He decided on the SMALLEST folded mono coil we could find with the elliptical shape. His terrain is tuff, rocks and trees in all the right places / wrong places, depending on if something is found. Fast Forward 2 Years: He has had a very exciting year. Finding the smallest picker first and getting bigger each time. He has purchased a second coil to cover more ground and get the optimal depth. We have also just finished our research for an increased voltage battery for the best performance and longer run time on the bigger coil. Well my 8 x 14 coil came yesterday and I got to hunt at an old school yard where coal waste has been discarded for many decades. The coil seemed to run fairly good. Noticed a few things: Actual ground balance was a little higher (tad over 8) than with my other coils. Increasing the delay didn't change the GB as much as my other coils. It was obvious when the GB balance was off by the increased false audio reports. I could actually run gain to 7, but past that the machine would false in this bad ground. With the stock coil I usually settle with gain of 6. Very good coverage. Felt lighter than the 12" stock coil, but I believe the 12" is a deeper running coil, air test might be in order I could actually pinpoint better (off the front end of the coil) than the stock coils. My holes were noticeably smaller due to better target location. Plenty deep enough, I know some may laugh, but I dug beer beaver tails at 6" in this terrible ground. But I was hunting for gold not coins. Looking forward to my next chance after Nate passes by. No gold jewelry found this time.

This guy uses the TDI on beaches and finds a ton of gold... Also, good video si hablan espanol. But he does everything in both ingles and Spanish. I thought it was cool to see a side by side on both the TDI SL and TDI Pro. Sounds like he is switching to just the SL for now. Whaddya guys think?

Anyone had experience with this coil?

In my ongoing Quest for that First Elusive nugget i took the TDI SL with a Miner John 5"x9" coil and went to a local gold producing river today. Sorry to say still No Nugget but i got enough fishing lead to cast a few bullets. Some of these were Really small split shot and bird shot so i know i am doing something right. Just got to find a piece of Yellow stuff to put the coil over.
