Montana Gold

Recommended Posts

Cool, thanks for the posts, keep em coming. It's inspiration to get further up into the mountains around me, places I've basically left as the last to check off my list since it's so hard for me to see the ground under the all the cover and understand what's going on like I can in the deserts and prairies.

Nice to see all the nitty gritty here and get an idea of where to start.

It is a dry gulch. The old timers had to transport the dirt and gravels in wagons down to the bottom of our gulch where there is a spring, to process.

Is there only the nuggets you're finding or is there any fine gold in the soil?

If there is fine gold is it worth processing?

Gold Seeker, no there is no fines. It is all nuggets.

Goldseeker5000 when I worked my claim back in the early 1980s I dropped the dirt etc on a heavy tarp (Ground Sheet) and dragged is out from the face, spread it out and detected it and repeated it many times. The dirt was hard packed clay and broken bedrock, a lot of effort was put in. I hope you get well rewarded.

Geof_junk, I have done that before as well. I have also used a small board or Plexi glass, but with this claim we need to be mindful of backfilling. I got a lot to do regarding this. I am detecting on fairly flat rotten bedrock and keeping amount to detect between digging small to keep as many nuggets coming as possible and to backfill as I progress with very little added work. Two birds with one stone.
