Unknown Iron Plate Dug Up On The Bank Of The Tennessee River In Knoxville, Tennessee

I Dug this Iron Plate up on the Bank of the Tennessee River in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Iron Plate is 8" x 7" and weighs 5 Pounds & 3 Ounces. I have no idea what it is or how old it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a tie plate for railroad track. Holes are for the spikes. Rail would probably sit between the raised or shoulders on the right side in third pic or against the raised on the left, with the spikes anchoring the rail down.

Yep, railroad track tie plate.  It may have some stamping on it.

I'm with the railroad plate guess , I grew up next to the tracks !  It was a long time ago but the memory was still in there ! Don't ask me where my keys are though.?

1 block away is plenty of them plates just waiting to be installed at the railroad tracks.

All together now It’s a rail plate for train rails.

 We so bright they have to cover our heads up to let the sun come up .

Careful...all property on the TN River banks is TVA and TVA is strictly prohibited for metal detecting.  Even the swim areas. This is including up to the 100 yr flood mark above normal "summer pool" levels.
