Recently Discovered Ladies Coin Purse With Contents And A Sterling Luggage Tag.

These items and others came from a rural homestead site that burnt down sometime in the 1920's.I have known about the place since I was a teenager and dug some decent early 1900's local pharmacy and Hutch soda bottles there back in the 1960's but had only detected it once with very little success.The purse, coins and the sterling I D tag suffered from varying degrees of heat damage with the silver taking the worst of it while the two liberty nickels and the 1887 IHP and 1918s wheat cent were virtually unscathed.

On the left side of purse is 1920 SLQ fused to a Barber dime on the right is a badly melted seated dime.1887 and 1903 IHP and 1918 wheat.

1891 and 1909 liberty nicks and Barbers 1895 two 98's and1900. and the sterling suitcase.

This penny somehow survived?

Can't quite make the name out with my tired eyes.

It looks to me like the tag says  "Vera K Watson"

Was in found in Oregon? I notice your location says California and Oregon.

There was a Vera G Watson in Oregon around those times especially seeing the latest coin in it was 1920's so it had to have been lost after that.

I'm not sure about the naming having a K, the Vera Watson looks correct to my eyeballs but the middle initial is the confusing bit to me and I'm not good at reading that fancy writing but looks a bit like a G ?

 

It looks more like a G or 9 to me, but then there is another character after that that looks like a B or 6? So weird.

I wonder if it's Vera Watson and a couple of numbers in the middle?

I thought those were numbers in the middle as well, but why are they so "scraggly" compared to the bizarre font? of the letters. Then again, I'm not so sure those letters are from the English alphabet lol.

Pretty sure it is a K.   Good detective work & some nice personal finds with some tragic history. That must have been a fairly well to do household.

We can really appreciate modern detectors that are better able to weed though the chaos left in the ground after a house burns down. I have one at the front of my place. Tough hunting.

Very interesting observation Phrunt.All that I could get was the 1st three letters on the first name and the 1st three on the last. The monogram looking thing or initial or whatever in the middle made my eyes wig out.Found in California.

Hey Doc,

What you have found is a silver Chatelaine pocket book. These were typically attached to a chain which was either fastened to a woman's belt or pinned onto her dress. Along with the pocket book would also be other trinkets, such as a pocket knife, perfume bottle, etc. I have found a silver perfume bottle, but never the pocket book. What a great find! Thanks for sharing.

Man that's wild! When I was a kid myself and my Indian friend would often wonder about the people that lived and hung out at that place.Never considered that there might have been gypsies in those woods.If I dug up a complete outfit like the one you posted that would blow what's left of my mind!
