  1. Today
  2. Thanks again Tony. Seen anyone ever propose a basic test like x grams bit at y inches or anything like that?
  3. Just check all the cables....gently move/wiggle the coil cables to make sure there are no mechanical faults.....the coils were foam filled I think and can break down over time making them false. Gently squeeze/tap them when detector switched on. The main secret is getting the ground balance set up right but hard to do without some heavy ground to try it on. Don't expect to find 1 grammers unless they are very shallow. Who knows, you might swing over an oz piece and the A2B will certainly let you know it's there !
  4. Hi everyone, do you factory reset your Manticore when you change your coils?
  5. Thanks for the feedback mate - hopefully it will atleast get the kid having a go and if there is some spark I can look at upgrading it for her. By chance any suggestions of a simple test to check its able to do more that coins/scrap? Wondering if I can shake it down at home before taking it inland or nth. Cheers
  6. I would also just use the coil that is on the detector as it makes a great everyday use machine, also has the additional inline pinpointer probe which is hard to find these days, you can hear the target through your headphones. Well done on acquiring that terrific outfit.
  7. I've been using these waterproof ear buds for about a year now. Link Yes, they are wired, but they are not as hot as phones and I haven't had a problem with them getting wet/not working.
  8. Well they "can" work in heavy soils as they did for quite a few years in the late 70's and early 80's here in WA. They found loads of gold back then but I suspect it was the bigger/shallower pieces which were easy pickings. I wouldn't want to go over ground that has been picked over by more modern machines over the past 30 years. They do require tuning and investigation of spurious signals. If you are semi serious then there are many better choices. As legendary as it was back in the day it wouldn't be the best choice for someone starting out for the first time.......it would likely be quite a handful for experienced prospectors who have never swung one of these single frequency VLF machines. Legend has it that there have been several of these type of machines that have been wrapped around tree trunks. One more thing to consider is the age of these machines....it may be noisy from an internal fault / coil or just plain noisy from the ground but you might not know the difference 🤪
  9. That's exactly what I've seen the last week with the M11... I'm satisfied by the more covered ground but not really impressed of what more I dug talking about depth...Also, it is clearly less prone to thin and broken pieces...I mean gold of course. So making the math, for gold jewels hunting, a smaller coil can be much better against a larger one in spite of the ground covered. My funny tone in the post it was just to affirm redundancy of the 9 among 8 and 11 because of this behaviour 🫢...
  10. I've been taking a break from detecting for a bit but I just saw this upgrade. I sometimes get confused by the exact procedure, but this was simple. There is a USB that comes out of the control box for the detector. It plugs into the power bank. You plug this USB into the computer, and it automatically goes into Upgrade Mode. Power comes from the computer just like plugging in a phone. I had gone to the Algo site and just downloaded the Updater program. When that box popped up it asked me for the version I wanted to upgrade to. When seeing that in the box it updated exactly like Simon showed. It said done and you turn off the detector and unplug it from the computer! This is nothing like the confusing downloads of programs or GPS for the 3030 or 7000. All of that horsepower on the chip is coming in handy for these tweaks. If we can think of it it can probably be done ... it just needs to be useful. Thanks Algo. Now I have to get back out there.
  11. @Steve Herschbach just an FYI, I haven't received an email, I have checked my SPAM folders, I checked here to be sure my email address on my profile is correct. Just wanted to post to see if anyone else has or hasn't received the email? I also just realized I have never received an email notification from this forum...but when I just checked all of the notifications options weren't set to "email", they are now, so hopefully someone will quote this so I can see if I get an email on it?
  12. WTG ... and with the 15! What did they sound like?
  13. Steve: Like others have said, I do greatly appreciate all of your hard work and the tremendous amount of information available on this web site. Of the many websites I have visited, this is my NUMBER ONE web site. So I will reiterate what others have said, do what you have to do to keep this wonderful site up and running. I fully support you.
  14. Best Wishes on your fight and you are in my prayers.
  15. Thanks for all the hard work that’s constantly going on in the background for this excellent forum, Steve. Yes, please, whatever needs to be done to save the forum that will cause you the least hassle - and much appreciated that you’re able to give a little heads up time before implementing the fix. I’ve already got a couple recent threads archived that I wanted to save.
  16. Everything on computers is perfect and will never glitch or lose data. Yeah , sure . Everybody knows that's more ain't right than I am !. Git 'er done. We're all big kids now. Pick the easiest path. Copying posts is easy compared to running the back stage part on a forum . A month is more than enough time to redo email specs. It's easy , I just did it last week. (I can even still remember the password ! ) 👍🖖
  17. Better to not need the antibiotic and have it to take than a doctor fighting you over it. That's what happened to me. Full bullseye rash that was extremely itchy. Stupid doctor at the time wouldn't give me antibiotics. I had to go back again, and again the idiot wouldn't listen. I started to have other problems like aches in my joints and muscles. Then it got even worse with heart rate changes and hurt a lot. Went to another doctor and got tested. Lyme. Had to take 3 rounds of antibiotics. I also ditched that first "doctor" that wouldn't do anything. Lyme Disease is no joke.
  18. Yesterday I decided to just hunt with my Manticore and the 15" coil and I was only hunting from around 7:30 am to 10:45 am and this is what I got
  19. I ran the MX5 for a few years and preferred it over the MXT. The stock spider coil and large SEF coils will serve you well. Only coil I’d add would be the small Shooter coil, although the small SEF coil in the picture may be just as good. I never ran that coil. I did have the SEF WSS 5x10 coil and it was fantastic coil for recent drops, just not as big a field as the clean sweep. It has a very narrow detection field and good depth in moderate soils.
  20. If this is your biggest problem than life is pretty good.
  21. Im not saying it is wolves. But 3 of the wolves had collars 1 male 2 females, I would bet there were more but in a few years of breeding that could be 25 to 30 alone. Wolves have a giant voice, i have heard them from both long and short range, and iy will raise the hairs neck.
  22. For alittle insiight, I have hunted Predators for 40 years now, Bobcats, Yotes, MtLions, bears and Wolves. So I keep up on movements of them. I do have connections with CA Fish And Game and NV Div of Wildlife. As far as Bigfoot goes, no idea, have seen evidence both ways but im always open. Believe me, if you really look, you will see things that are not supposed go be there, but are. I called in 2 wolves in northern Washoe county while chasing Coyotes. I know what wolves are but NV Div of Wildlife said noway. That was 12 years ago, now they say, yes there have been sightings. Most predators will not be seen unless they want to or get surprised. Predators will not make noise while hunting, but once they make a kill or to warn others of a danger, they really let lose with vocals. Stay safe out there, from both 4 and 2 legged predators.
