  1. The update page (English language link below) takes you to the Account Login page when you click on the “UPDATE NOW” button. https://www.xpmetaldetectors.com/en/ba/the-blog/deus-ii-v1-0-update-instructions.php The direct link to the Account Login page is: https://updater.xpmetaldetectors.com/#/login
  2. @cookie58 - Reading through your previous posts here and in previous the other thread, I suspect you may be using the wrong form to create your account. You appeared to be attempting to fill out the "Comment" form not the "Account Creation" form. If you scroll to the bottom of the XP Website page describing the update changes you see the following: Don't fill out the comments form, click on "UPDATE NOW". That will take you to an account login page as shown below: Click on "Create account". Tha will take you to the following form where you can fill in the personal information needed to create an account as shown below: After filling out all the required fields, click on create account and you will be prompted to go the automated email sent to the email address you entered above to validate/verify your account and when you do that in your email program the verify link you click in the email will take you back to the login page (second image above) where you can log in with the email and password you entered into the account creation/registration form. That should then take you to the page where you can update your machine using the online prompts and plugging it into your computer when prompted using the cables supplied with your machine (the three-headed charge cable with the special connector for your remote and the single USB cable for your WS6/WSA headphone puck. Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes...
  3. He must have wired it to the regular headphone pins on the sealed remote connector, then. That multi-pin connector supports bone phones which has a connector that is keyed to the bone phone pins on the remote connector, this tells the remote to only provide square audio. You can also wire up regular speaker or piezo submersible phones to the same connector on a different set of pins and the remote will provide both PWM and SQUARE audio out.
  4. Doesn’t exist and will likely never exist. If I need to cover ALL the bases, I need at last two different types of detectors. A PI and an induction balance VLF. If I were forced to only possess two detectors (not counting a pinpointer) they would be (right now) the Garrett Axiom and the Deus 2 - I would have prospecting, hot dirt relic/coin, salt beach, submerged fresh and saltwater, coin and jewelry shooting, meteorite hunting, contest hunting, hoard hunting all covered. They are able to be broken down such that I could put them both in a backpack and pack them in to a remote area on foot, e bike, or ATV.
  5. Confused. I thought if you wired the phones to the bone phone pins then that locks the remote into Square.
  6. Some things to think about or try: Did everything indicate the update completed sat? Did the lock up occur after you disconnected the puck and self restart or on a subsequent power up? Were you just checking that it powered up fine or were you trying to pair with the remote or a coil in Master mode? If attempting pair with the remote, attempt re- pairing by holding down the minus button as suggested above? Is it paired with a coil? If so, is the coil in range (it may be trying to search for the coil to do the shift)? Did you try plugging the puck back into the laptop with the updater loaded to see if that snaps it out of the lockup? Worst case, you might have to wait for the puck battery to be depleted so it can power off reset on its own. Contact XP in the mean time. HTH
  7. Tom - Jeff answered your question with a link to the relevant post. But since that didn't quite answer your question... D2 is highly versatile under a variety of detecting situations and objectives and is ultra light and ultra configurable (e.g., WS6 Master config) due to its wireless coil based system. However. some detectors can give D2 a run for the money or are superior in specific ways over the D2. Legend - Better Overall Value/Great accessory coil selection. Nox 800/900 - Better at sub gram gold detection. Though the 900 TIDs are less stable than D2. Manticore - As good or deeper than D2 in wet salt sand, doesn't require antenna claptrap that is required by D2. Manticore TID stability is also lacking vs. the D2.
  8. Along those lines, I kind of wish they they flexed back on the Base Factory Default Programs to a bare minimum that would give us the basic base program building blocks necessary to branch out and create the custom programs suited to our needs. The reason being, that you can free up slots for saving additional custom prorams. To that Point The Base Factory Default Programs Could be Distilled Down To: 1 - General - Subtraction - 24 khz 2 - Sensitive - Addition - 40 khz (As a minimum, the existing Sensitive FT and Fast Factory Programs which are both based on Sensitive are somewhat redundant and just take up program slots). 3 - Deep - Addition - 14 khz (not essential if covered by Program 2 above) 4 - Mono 5 - Gold Field - Addition - 40 khz 6 - Relic - Subtraction - 24 khz 7 - Deep Salt - 14 khz 8 - Sensitive Salt - 40 khz (not essential - covered by 7 above) Freeing up an additional 4 to 6 Custom Program Slots. If I could request an additional Program it would be Mono variant of the Gold Field/Relic process. Also, the manual input of Custom Programs works but is tedious without a full keyboard for alphanumeric character inputs. On the long-term wishlist: Either provide a means to enter custom programs via phone or computer interface. It is good that custom programs are not wiped after minor version updates. So, hoping if a minor bugfix version is issued in short order (e.g., ver. 1.1) thet my custom programs are not wiped during the update.
  9. CPT and Rattlehead, I always liked Silver Slayer based of Deep HC vice Fast so that's basically what is going on by doing that, I think, because they are both 14 khz and frequency addition processes (now with the ability to adjust Max FMF). I am looking at a hierarchy of base program process settings to see what programs will behave identically if set up identically. You can then use a combination of a selected base program with the frequency or soil conductivity process you prefer target specific situations such as using a lower frequency with General for Silver Slaying in wet soil (Conductive Soil Subtraction). See this post which expands further on that train of thought.
  10. I was starting to think about how the ability to adjust Max FMF for any Factory Program might affect our ability to better customize Deus II FMF for just about any situation and to better visualize the similarity between base Factory Program capabilities with the additional degree of freedom this new feature proivides. First I had to organize the programs into a specific hierarchy. It is a work in progress but it basically racks out as follows: FMF or Selectable Single Frequency (Under Single we only have Program 7 - Mono) Under FMF there are basically Three Groups Disc Process (e.g., all the non-salt, discrimination programs such as General, Sensitive, Park, Deep HC) IAR Process (i.e., Gold Field and Relic) Disc - Salt Process (i.e., Dive, Beach, and Beach Sensitive) Under 2 of the 3 base processes above you have two categories (Note: Disc - Salt only uses Conductive soil subtraction) Frequency Addition (Disc Example: Sensitive; IAR Example: Gold Field; Disc - Salt Example: None) or Conductive Soil Subtraction (Disc Example: General; IAR Example: Relic; Disc - Salt Example: Diving) Finally, under each of these processes you can select one of 3 Max FMF Frequencies: 14, 24, or 40 In tabular form it looks like this: MAX FMF FREQ (kHz) FAST MULTI-FREQUENCY (FMF) SEL SINGLE FREQ DISC IAR SALT MONO - 7 ADD SUB ADD SUB ADD SUB 14 DEEP HC - 6 X X X N/A DIVING - 10 24 PARK - 5 X X RELIC - 9 N/A BEACH - 11 40 SENSITIVE/FT/FAST - 2, 3, 4 GENERAL - 1 GOLD FIELD - 8 X N/A BEACH SENS - 12 Sorry about the clunky formatting, but just trying to do this fast on the fly. The X's mark areas that are not covered by a default Factory Program. So, for example, you can create a custom Silver Slayer variant that can perhaps deal better with wet soil (conductive soil subtraction) by using General and set MAX FMF to 14. Similarly, per this table it appears that Silver Slayer using FAST with MAX FMF changed to 14 as the base program or using DEEP HC with the same Reactivity Setting as Fast as the base program should behave identically. Similarly, you can perhaps better chase micro targets in wet soil by using Relic with FMF Max set to 40. Or maybe Gold Field set to 24 or 14 might do well better for relic hunting than relic under different soil moisture conditions or different iron pollution levels. Definitely, room for experimentation here. Also, notice, that none of the Dive/Beach programs have a frequency addition counterpart. This makes sense, because the whole point is to subtract out salt soil conductivity. So on dry sand, you might be better off using an inland program (just as is recommended in the Deus 2 User Guide). Finally, another thing to keep in mind, since you can now vary Max FMF Frequency is that battery drain will be mostly dependent on the FMF Max frequency you select, with the lower FMF Max frequencies (not just with Deep HC or Diving) causing higher battery drain. I noticed that the battery drain table in the User Guide was not updated to reflect this. FWIW. Welcome your comments and thoughts on this.
  11. To give you something to complain about. Unfortunately, it's a data grab for marketing purposes at this point, but it may also be a way to further control paid subscription feature tiers in the future for the Go Terrain app or the actual machines which, of course, is a double edged sword. Good in the sense that you don't pay for features you don't personally need or want, bad in the sense their may be additional paid tiers and those tiers may be lifetime or periodic subscription renewal.
  12. Like the design. Prefer olive drab to camo like your screamer accessories. Is the control head sun shade Velcro attached and removable?
  13. You need to Long press on the gear icon button from there to get the update confirmation screen.
  14. Dunno if you resolved it but the problem is you have the WS6 in master mode. Turn on the remote first with WS6 off, put remote in pairing searching for Headphones, then do a long press of the WS6 power ("minus") until the remote sees the WS6 and pairs with it, which puts it in slave mode
  15. Yep disappointing as I was hoping for a "mono" gold field process program (similar to Deus 1) not just the mod that allows you to adjust the top end FMF frequency, but at least there is now adjustability there which an interesting addition. There are also now a number of other audio enhancements (e.g., new audio filter, enhanced square wave audio, threshold with pitch, and new enhancements to full tones setups) that supposedly improve detection of weak signals, so some additional testing is warranted. But the head-to-head testing Jeff did with Mono vs. Gold Field, is telling us that there is probably still work to do. Jeff, note that on Gold Field (which is already at 40 khz max) and Relic (default 24 but now can be adjusted up to 40 khz or down to 14 khz) should be tested. I note that in the program descriptions, Gold Field utilizes frequency addition while Relic utilizes conductive soil subtraction (though not sure if this is simply tied to the FMF MAX Frequency selection) so there may be a slight difference in the way Gold Field and Relic process targets even with the same Max FMF frequency. Suggest giving Relic a go with 40 khz to see how it behaves. With Relic you have hot ground handling similar to Gold Field. Worth a shot. Also suggest fiddling with the new audio options including the audio filter and enhanced Square. Also going to try Sensitive Full Tones and Beach Sensitive with Pitch which are both set up for micro targets. If Pitch is used, threshold can be utilized as well. At the end of the day, we may need "mono" gold field, a maximum FMF frequency higher than 40 khz or a maximum mono frequency higher than 45 khz (60 or 80 khz preferrably) and that small elliptical coil we have been asking for. Simon, just wanted to point out a nuanced point. Specifically that Jeff is not saying that Deus 2 does not have sub gram gold detection capability. Deus 2 in mono frequency,40 to 45 khz appears to be able to detect Jeff's test targets, it is just that Gold Field is lacking. Jeff needs Gold Field because of its superior mineralized ground handling. You have always stated that you have minimal mineralization issues even in your gold fields. You might be able to rival your Deus 1 prospecting performance with the Deus 2 in mono. I don't need sub gram gold capability so I don't have a feel for how Deus 2 Mono performs vs. Deus 1 Gold Field, in that capacity so maybe Jeff can provide that perspective (I'm sure he has addressed it in his past testing). The thing is, I am not sure even Deus 1 can rival Equinox 800 on sub gram gold anyway, so it might be a moot point. You had indicated interest in Deus 2 because of the reports of rock solid Target IDs at depth, you might still want to consider Deus 2 down the road. They definitely did some things to improve target audio and non-ferrous target ID stability in the presence of ferrous and its not like it does NOT detect sub-gram gold. Anyway, just wanted to point that out. Chase Takes: I'm updated but I have not had the chance to run Ver 1.0 through its paces or punch in my custom programs. Love what they added but disappointed in what was not added, but hey, we're only at version 1.0 and they sure added a lot. Would have liked to have seen: Mono Frequency Gold Field Process and higher mono frequency selections above 45 khz to address the micro target/sub gram gold limitations that Jeff has identified. Also, I want to point out here that we are talking SUB GRAM gold (and Jeff has been careful to always characterize it that way). No mistake about it, it may not be as sensitive as the Deus 1 and is definitely not as sensitive as the Equinox to sub gram gold but I will tell you, it definitely detects micro gold jewelry and micro mid-conductors. Just wanted to put that out there FWIW. Sometimes people get the mistaken impression it has trouble with gold and/or micro mid-conductors, in general. On Deus 1 you could select normalized or non-normalized TIDs. The spread of TIDs would vary based on the operating frequency used, with the higher operating frequencies pushing and compressing the high conductors at the high end of the scale (i.e., above TID 90). Or you could normalize all TIDs to display consistent with an operating frequency of 18 khz regardless of the operating frequency selected. Ability to adjust TID normalization to a lower reference frequency to provide a greater spread of high conductive TIDs. Right now Deus 2 TIDs are normalized to 18 khz like "ID NORM" on the Deus 1. A lower reference frequency like 12, 8 or 4khz would create more spread on the top end TIDs at the possible expense of more compression on the lower and mid conductivity regions. It's a tradeoff (everything is constrained to a maximum TID 99) but it would be nice to have that option. Maybe in a future update. Separate from the update, a small elliptical coil option would be welcome. Will be taking these new options and features for a spin this week.
  16. It's probably a combination of arrogance or hubris along with a misguided sense of "if it ain't broke..." It's an annoying oversight but trivial in the sense that it is likely not affecting sales at all because people either just deal with it or home brew a fix. Hence Deus/Orx users are sending XP the message that its no big deal (similar to the wonky charge interface) so XP is not going to invest in change.
  17. Like I said, this probably has more to do with the thread being in the wrong forum because the question naturally fosters critiques and debate and emotion. The thing is, the context was different when first posed as neither Deus 2 nor Legend existed in the wild and all we had were marketing brochures and rumors. So...I'm considering moving it. Or feel free to start a new related topic in the Comparison forum.
  18. The thread probably more properly belonged in the comparison forum but has existed here for nearly 2 years. I can sit here and go around and around on the basis for XP coil costs vs. other detectors, but frankly it's exhausting. Do I think their price point is justified? Not necessarily. Do I have some technical understanding of what drives their cost above conventional coils? Yes. Regardless, the real point is that as a mod, I made a judgment call as to when I considered the thread crossed a subjective line and politely asked for the provocative critical language to simply stop, not the listing of grievances. I am admittedly guilty of this occasionally and accept the recalibration when called on it and move on. I politely ask you to do the same and not to ratchet it up further. I ask this as a courtesy to forum members who are fans of the brand and as affirmation of the decorum that has been repeatedly affirmed and encouraged by Steve in the brand specific forums in order to discourage a descent into intimidation and trolling. I did not ask to debate the merits of that policy or my call. As I stated previously, feel free to extol the virtues of Legend in the Nokta forum and critically compare and rant about Deus coil costs vs. everyone else in the Detector Comparison Forum. That's all fair game. We can discuss it further offline if you wish. But if you want to continue the back and forth publicly, I will lock this thread and you can take it up with Steve. Thanks.
  19. Gentle moderator reminder this is the XP Deus II Forum. This ancient thread (started before D2 was even released) is finally starting to veer off topic with discussions of other brands and increasing brand bashing. If you want to do that, you are welcome to do so in the Detector Advice and Comparisons Forum. Not trying to suppress pros and cons discussions and honest critiques, but with terminology like “ludicrous” and “biggest screw ups”, being thrown around by folks who don’t appear to own the detector in question, it’s getting a little over the top and a tad annoying (even if there are elements of truth behind those comments ) And yes, I know I’m a biased mod in this instance, but also equal opportunity. Steve and I have made similar comments in other brand forums.
  20. Short Answer: You can certainly use it as a conventional standalone (i.e., non-wireless) pinpointer with those Equinox detectors but it is not compatible with (i.e., will not wirelessly link up with) the Nox wireless headsets or wireless radios built into those Equinox detectors. Additional TL/DR Tech Nerd info that may make your eyes glaze over or roll back into your head: You can purchase and plug a standalone Z-lynk transmitter into the Equinox headphone jack if you wish to use the Z-Lynk Pro Pointer in wireless mode and hear it through compatible Garrett Z-Lynk Wireless phones (MS-3's) or wired phones plugged into a Z-Lynk wireless receiver. The Equinox 600/800 has two wireless radios - One that utilizes Bluetooth (BT) compatible with the low latency APTX-LL codec which is compatible with many 3rd party APTX-LL headphones as well as the ML wireless headphones included with the Nox 800. The second radio uses ML's Wi-Stream wireless which is only compatible with the WM08 wireless receiver included with the Nox 800. The Nox 700/900 use a different radio that utilizes BT LE protocol that is not compatible with the BT devices that work with the Nox 600/800 and for the time being only works with the wireless headsets included with the Nox 900 and Manticore. Again, none of the Minelab Nox or Manticore wireless radios/headphones are directly compatible with Garrett's Z-lynk wireless components.
  21. Yeah. Even though it was not a CW period find, it was definitely the find that made my hunt. I could not believe the shape it was in when I flipped the plug. Best condition of any pre-1950 silver I've ever dug, much less an SLQ. You rarely find coins at these DIV sites, but this was a new site, so quite a few coins were dug. I have a backlog of 2023 finds and adventures to write about, including that DIV. Have had some other things going on in life lately. It was the sweetest, smoothest sounding low tone on the Axiom and I honestly thought I was digging a CW lead minie ball or round ball. It was down almost a foot in fairly wet lowland soil a few hundred feet from the Rappahannock River that was the strategic natural barrier that separated the North and South army units engaged in the battle. Best coin I've ever found with a PI. Anyway, Axiom covered all the bases and many of those artillery frags (which ring up counterintuitively with a high tone) were very deep but very audible. Axiom (and more importantly my arm and shoulder) kept on chugging all day long. Long after I would have normally put down the GPX and shifted over to my Deus 2 or Equinox.
  22. Good point. If the headphone electronics can't be stuffed into the WM08 module, then you can probably put it in a homebrew enclosure and wire up a phone-out jack.
  23. Not out of the question, but you are probably better off just purchasing a Nordic nrf5340 Dev Kit for about 50 bucks (Google it) then adding power, headphone jack and charge input, then fashioning a purpose built homebrew case for that, rather than cannibalizing your $150 Headphones and hoping the electronics/power/battery fit and can be wired up to the WM-08 jack similar to the Wi-Stream board. But that's just me.
