Just For Fun
Ridge Runner replied to Ridge Runner's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
GB That’s for sure as one said We not in Texas anymore but it was Kansas not Texas. I don’t remember what year but due to less snow fall that year I could walk across that river. That may give some a hint about the location. Chuck -
Who can tell me where this picture was taken as in state and river. Sorry no prize for the winner but if you could tell if you worked that river before. Chuck

Hydro-shocking Gold/quartz Specimens
Ridge Runner replied to Goldseeker5000's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Goldseeker 5000 I hear you loud and clear so I’ll go slow. It’s like cutting a board in cut a little each time is better than too much . Thanks again. Chuck -

One don’t have to go to that expense of buying cons that’s if you can get your hands on some birdshot out of a shotgun shell. If you can get some lead you can make your own. I’d just count the number of shot I had in my pan so you know if any was lost while panning. The pans we have today out shine any metal pan I started out with. Chuck -

Blackjack I’d have to say I love dredging more than detecting for gold. If the powers that be would let the dredgers back to dredging we would clean up our rivers of mercury. The first and main reason is that mercury has gold in it and no dredger is going to throw gold away . It’s surprising just how big gold can be but still float. The Best To You Blackjack. Chuck -

Blackjack Many years ago I wrote a article for GPAA on prospecting. I was in finer than fine gold and the only finer than what I was in would have to be Nome Alaska. The statement I made was How could a nugget hide behind a speck of black sand. When working with such fine gold it’s a lot of work getting a ounce of that metal. Chuck -
Hydro-shocking Gold/quartz Specimens

I have one nugget that I’d like to remove some dirty quartz so I shall give this a try. It may go from a ugly duckling to a beautiful nugget. Thanks for the video. Don’t you just love show and tell !? Chuck -

When I first got into prospecting and finding gold I wish I’d known just some of equipment I could have made . I was in the Air Force and first duty station was just out of Merced at Castle AFB . As my stepfather would say I didn’t have a pot to pee in are a window to throw it out at the time. Chuck -

Oneguy What you’re talking about is that something like a big sucker bottle like the one when getting gold out of your gold pan only several times bigger? I could see it would work if the bottle after squeezing would pop back out like your small sucker bottle. Thanks Oneguy. Chuck -

You can see that Art was not my best class. The Chinese made their own sluice and it may not have beauty but it worked for them. The board that I show is a 1 X 6 but like said you can use whatever you want. The cuts across the board is a electric saw blade width and a 1/4 deep but you can make a cut deeper if want but too deep will weaken the board. You could use a 1 X 8 are wider if want. I’d have the sides stick up about 1 1/2 inches on the side. If you make the sluice too much over two feet it could get heavy but 3 feet should be good. You will catch material in the first two ruffles and they to slow that nugget down to drop in the next one. If you want to cut it over two blade width you could repeat this every other one. It’s nothing cut in stone on making it. One Hung Low had luck with it so why not you!? Chuck -

You can make different tips to reach down in those cracks that you can’t get to. If you make one yourself have it that you can use more than one tip . On pvc to make it flatter just heat it like I do in the kitchen oven. When hot enough flatten it like you want and run cold water on it. This will set it just like you want. Please post on whatever you buy are make. Chuck -

Northeast I’m back but the one I’m showing is on the high side but more to it . They make one lots cheaper but it’s just the pump and you drop in a bucket yourself. Here is both found on Amazon. Hope this helps you. Chuck -

Northeast It’s more than one way to skin a cat 🐱. You can make one yourself are maybe buy one and this a suction pump that’s made out of pvc . Just do a search on what I’m talking about. I’ve never had the need for one but it works fair pulling material out of cracks when a vac is not available. We have one of the major gold states you can’t use a dredge anymore. So we can relate to your problem. If can find a picture of what I’m talking about I’ll post it for you. Chuck -

One thing about gold if it comes across a crack it will fall in it. I don’t know if you got access to a vac with a two cycle engine on a 5 gallon bucket but sure could help you a lot.. You can take this to the bank in if you find a nugget you going to find some fine gold. I know it’s more to carry but but just maybe double your take. If you just run the vac only when you need it you can cut down on the amount of gas needed. Fill up the vac before leaving and a small gallon plastic can should be more than enough. The Best To You! For over 30 years I used nothing but Whites detectors and I never broke a ear off any of their coils. On thinking back I don’t remember using the coil for a shovel to push rocks out of the way. Just maybe that’s why I never broke a ear off any coil are any I have now. They really don’t work good at busting rocks. Chuck

You Ever Do This?
Ridge Runner replied to Ridge Runner's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
When I started detecting the trash was the clad coins. I don’t get to hunt now as much as I like but I don’t think I’ll ever stop completely. For all the years I’ve been detecting it has never been for the money. It’s always been for the adventure of what my next find will be . People I remember would ask how much can a person find in one. I’d tell them if you get out and hunt often you could find 600.00 to a 1000.00 a year. I’d say that was about my average back when. I always told them they would have to put out money to buy their first detector but if they will really get out and hunt they’ll find enough to pay for the next one. Today I buy too many detectors so I shot that down of doing that anymore. Chuck PS some may say that’s a lots to be found in one year and some may find more than that but I have gone 6 months are more seeing no one detecting. -

GB Haha on leave the dirt out. Until you get down to the dirt you don’t know the whole story. You guys are a lots better than I ever was now are in the future. Chuck -
What I’m talking about is come in from one hunt and put your finds in a plastic bag . I do this to keep my finds separate and at the same time hoping I can remember what detector they were found with. You also have to remember where you put them. The second picture I was using my ORX. The first picture who knows what I was using. Chuck

Suggestions For Future MDT Changes
Ridge Runner replied to dewcon4414's topic in Tarsacci Metal Detectors
Geezer Everything you said is sad but true and very little we can do. My Tarsacci can sit in the corner for a month are more and within a minute all the settings come back to me. I can walk out the door knowing I’ve got it down pat and don’t have the need to look at a manual. I guess it’s made for a simple mined me . I can concentrate on detecting and not on what to do next to get the correct settings I want. Please don’t get me wrong I do have others like I was talking about but I find as I get older I just like it simple. Chuck -
Suggestions For Future MDT Changes
Ridge Runner replied to dewcon4414's topic in Tarsacci Metal Detectors
I remember Aaron’s forum and he was so helpful but I didn’t know about Tom. It would be good for Tarsacci if people knew if they getting their monies worth why having to spend 5 hundred more to have one. One thing if nothing else I like about the Tarsacci and that’s if I know it will sit a while I just remove the batteries. I have one other I can do the same and that’s my 2300 but everything else I have to keep a check on them . I still want a small elliptical coil say 10X5 but here I sit wishing in one hand and spitting in the other. So why don’t you tell me what one is running over. Chuck -
Suggestions For Future MDT Changes
Ridge Runner replied to dewcon4414's topic in Tarsacci Metal Detectors
When sales goes up a company they can afford to put more time in their product to make it better. I’ve have yet to see a ad on the Tarsacci in any mag .A lot of show and tell in some mag goes along way if they can run it in color as we see lots of companies do. This forum is the best thing that’s happen to Tarsacci on getting its name out there. But the trouble is this is the only forum you will see the word Tarsacci pop up. Remember the watch ad that said Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. That in my opinion is the Tarsacci . Chuck
