I made another trip to the spring on the hill again this evening. Nearly the same finds as last time. 14 headstamps and one more if that brass band is part of one. 4-16 gauge and 10-12 gauge. One of the 12 gauge is labeled US ROMAX. I never heard of that one before. I also found a bigger piece of iron that looks like a cultivator blade. Then I found another one shaped more like a shovel head. I forgot to take a pic of it. On the way back down the hill I got nice high tone but mixed with iron as I turned on it. I said to myself “I bet this is a pocket knife”. And sure enough it was! Lots of activity around the springs up there. I say springs, plural, because there are three spring heads all within about a 100’ radius. With all the stuff I’m finding, there has to be another coin besides the two mercs I found the other day.

My contribution to my brothers. This was found yesterday evening near the newly discovered spring that I found the other day. Two more 10 gauge headstamps along with six 12 gauge and five 16 gauge. The piece of electrical wire is confusing as there aren’t any remnants of a house or cabin and no known source of electricity on this mountain side.

If you have to turn off the ws6 manually, then it’s become unpaired via the update process. If it’s paired it will turn off when you turn the remote off. I had to manually (the process to do this is in the manual) re-pair mine after the update.

Not too deep, around 6” if I’m remembering correctly.

Big Silver Easter Morning Hunt!
NCtoad replied to NCtoad's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
No, it’s not aluminum. It’s got the weight of silver and no oxidation like aluminum gets when it’s in the ground for a long time. You’ll eventually get a silver half. This is my fourth but it was a long time between the first and second. -

Thanks for the tips! I was also running park mode in full tones with disc at 8 and 8-35 notched out. It ran much quieter of course. I need to get in the habit of checking the horseshoe meter. I did double check some of the deep hc signals with the park program I had set up. Some of those nails sounded pretty good in deep hc and I couldn’t resist. Lol -
What a unique find! Congrats!

Big Silver Easter Morning Hunt!

Thanks Bob! That half ran up 96-97 but it wasn’t a clear tone probably because of a roofing nail that was in with it. Btw, all the old rusty nails sounded good in deep hc. I had my disc at -6.4 so no disc at all. I think my reactivity was at 2. I’ll eventually figure out the tone nuances of rusty nails! Lol -
I got out this morning hoping to add to yesterday’s two mercs. Today I went to a spot in town where there’s a gravel parking lot. There used to be two houses where the gravel area is but the front yards are still there and still in grass. I hunted there two weeks ago and got 10 wheats so I figured there had to be a silver lurking there somewhere. I got four wheats and a few copper memorials and clad dimes. But I also got a nice deep high tone. (This time I was using a full tones version of park and a full tones version of deep HC.) When I stuck my shovel in the ground I realized it was in a plug I had dug out two weeks ago! I just had to dig deeper. Lol. Out came my first silver spoon. This one’s not plated, it’s the real deal, even though there’s no markings on the part I found. 34 grams of silver! Not long after that closer to the gravel area I got a 96-97 with some iron tones coming through. When I flipped the plug over a large silver disc fell out of it. A 1943 walker! That made my day! Oh, check out the stack of coin pack condoms! Lol!

I Found An Old Spring! 2 Mercs!
NCtoad replied to NCtoad's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Pics of the spring closer to my house. These springs are in my estimation about a quarter mile from each other with the one I just found maybe a 150-200 feet higher in elevation. -
When I don’t feel like driving anywhere I usually go up the hill in the woods by my house. This property is owned by the company I work for so I have free reign of it. Not too long ago I was up there and besides headstamps and bullets I found a harmonica reed. So yesterday I headed up there and found an area where I was getting a lot of iron signals. First thing I dug was an old rusty handsaw blade. Then I found what I think is an iron stirrup. Not sure if that’s what it is, but maybe someone here can give a positive ID. Then I started finding headstamps including only my second 10 gauge headstamp. As I worked my way up a small branch, I noticed a rock spring well! I was detecting as I walked towards it and got a nice sweet high tone well using sensitive FT. It rang up 91-93 and I just knew it was going to be a silver dime. I was hoping for a barber, but it was a ‘34 merc. I rescanned that hole and got a another exact same signal about a foot away and out pops a ‘24 merc! I’m so happy I found this spot because I have another place close to home to go. BTW, there’s another old spring with similar rock work that is closer to my house. I’ve pounded that one and got I think five silvers. Although the rock work is similar the one close to the house uses mortar but the one up the hill looks to be dry stacked.

You can go to the XP website and look at the deus II manual. It will tell you all about programs and frequencies.
-
I like hunting in full tones anyways so I’ll give this new update a try. If it doesn’t work out I guess I can roll back to 0.6.
-
Here’s a video showing full tones with correct id verses the other tone options:
-
I did the update. First update for me as I didn’t do the .6 big number update. A couple of things: if you’re new to the deus update, after the download follow the icons on the screen in order. Don’t plug into the usb port until it tells you to! After two tries I figured that out. Lol. The other thing is that my ws6 module somehow became unpaired and I couldn’t get it to pair back up. I finally did get it paired by doing it manually through options. I haven’t actually tried the .7 update out yet but hopefully I will tomorrow. For now both the remote and ws6 puck say v0.7.

Those are some great finds! I’ve been using both sensitive and sensitive ft modes and like the way they work in polluted areas. The only changes I make are changing program 2 to full tones also. Program 3 with no disc is noisy, but seems to lock on to good targets. When all those tones get to be too much I’ll just switch to program 2. I also vary the reactivity on both programs depending on how polluted the area is that I’m detecting.
-
I don’t care for the square tones either. Still got my nox for that! Lol. I really like those squeaky pwm full tones though. Really makes a good target stand out!

Nice ring! Congrats!
-
I’ll most likely be here often with shotgun headstamps and bullets!
-
Congrats on the silver! I’m still looking for my first seated coin.
-
Nice finds! I’ve only found one CW era bullet. Just wasn’t much CW activity around here in Western NC. You’re right about those faint whispers on the d2. Much better audio modulation than the nox.

You’re correct in that the coil ears not being center mounted or in other words, not being mounted at the center of gravity of the coil, will put torque on the coil ears. The friction force of water will exacerbate this torque. However, using a centering device will only put even more torque on those cool ears whether in or out of the water. Think of using a cheater bar on frozen nut. Here’s a pic of a centering device made by a guy on the friendly forum. That red piece of plastic is basically a moment arm and unless it’s attached to the coil close to where the shaft attaches to it, (and it doesn’t look like it does), it increases the stress through increased torque on the coil ears. Think of swinging that coil with an exaggerated centering device that’s two feet long and how much stress that would put on the coil ears. Maybe we have a mechanical engineer here on the forum who can weigh in on this and explain it better.

If it looks like a crack, feels like a crack and leaks like a crack, then you might have a crack! Lol! I wish I’d seen this thread before I saw the “oh the sky is falling” posts over on the friendly forum. Would have saved me some time from posting why I don’t think it’s a crack. It doesn’t even look like a crack to me. Some of the naysayers don’t even own a deus II.
-
Just looking at the pics of the centering devices, it looks to me like it would introduce rotational torque on the coil ears which could eventually fatigue and crack them. Or maybe the centering device material has enough flex that it “takes up” some of that torque force.
