  1. If he’s done with it, perhaps someone could help Bill archive it?
  2. Archiving the old timer posts like Jim Straight’s and some other codgers who are no longer prospecting with us would be nice- I guess Wayback will help with that…
  3. Looks like that’ll take some work to make again, just the thing for keeping some of that Au in the ground where it belongs for you! 😉
  4. I currently have a Coiltek 14x9 Goldhawk for sale but now that I also have a NF 12x7, I am going to have to do more testing between them before letting the CT go…. Has anyone put some time on the CT 14x9 who opted for the NF instead? If so, what was your experience?
  5. Memories of Happy Camp summer along the Klamath- wild blackberry cobblers warm from a Dutch oven with homemade ice cream, live fiddle and guitar music threading through the trees from the miners’ camps. That’s some of the reasons why I’d call it Happy Camp. -A good place to rest in peace.
  6. You may be right- It was built over 100 years ago and even had a wine cellar with old hand made wine bottle racks in the basement! Metal detecting may be very productive in that neighborhood. One suggestion Robert, wear a safety vest, slacks and hard hat- most people won’t bother you then.
  7. The house where I grew up was recently being renovated by the new owners and they used a backhoe on the side strip along the sidewalk and punched into a previously forgotten tunnel about 8 feet wide and high running along the street for half a block. Both ends were sealed with bricks. Not sure what if anything was found in it (they didn’t tell) but even the city didn’t know about it. So I’d say- yes, do detect the strips with a backhoe!🤣
  8. I found my first gold detecting with a Gold Monster (about .3g) after scraping an area about an inch deep that a buddy pointed me to on his claim. It was previously cleaned up by a lot of PI detectors. Scraping away in layers is a great idea. I tried it in other areas with a 24k also, but as a beginner I haven’t really gotten the feel for using the disc screen values yet. One of my other detecting friends is really good at doing this, I have a lot to learn!
  9. Very nice little specimens! Speaks well as to what other tools to have around along with a PI detector. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Sounds like an interesting program. Never been, but it looks rather like old parts of Walhalla, South Carolina!
  11. Yeah, in Australia- wrong continent, wrong time… 😉
  12. I am curious also as to what the significant differences are between this coil and the White’s 6”. I understand the new one and original one are both concentric, so what makes the difference? Just curious if it would be worth the upgrade for someone with the original White’s 6” coil.
  13. Sorry about your bad luck! I sent mine in for the audio repair and that worked out well, and they replaced my 11 inch coil due to cracking. So that was at least two expensive postage billsthat I had to pay. Since then I cut off my slipping twist locks and I added $20 worth of snap locks. Then there was the nugget finder coil upgrade, and next maybe some foil tape and who else knows what?
  14. When my warranty runs out that may be a project too- just need to get adhesive backed conductive metal foil tape that can be soldered for grounding and with adhesive that can stand the heat of the sun on that dark cover, else paint the cover all white! 😆
  15. Very good write up Steve, thank you for taking the time to share it with us! The photos really make it also. Are you or Garrett putting it as an article for a prospecting magazine? I’ve seen some beautiful copper nuggets formed when glaciers pressed them from their lodes, have similar other soft metals like gold been found in Scandinavia by the same process where the nugget is not a quartz and gold specimen but has been “pressed” out like like the copper float nuggets have?
  16. You guys have been very quick with approvals- thanks!
  17. We’ll save the lunkers where we found them for you!
  18. Reese- I am curious as to your preference of using headphones, a external Bluetooth speaker (torus, etc), or just the stock built in one? And what were you using when you found the heart nugget? Nice find!
  19. Well Reese has been making it work well for him, love his heart nugget- 14-inches deep is a good indicator of how well the thing can work. I don’t know if he uses headphones or not, should ask him as I like to keep my ears open and use a torus instead.
  20. Yeah, seeing you throw it on the ground was the low point of it for you, sorry to see you go through that. I have to thank you though, I got mine fixed as soon as you released that ML AU note about how to prepare it for turning it in.
  21. Yeah, you think they would’ve gotten it right the first time…maybe. All good now, my turnaround time was about a week.
  22. This is an interesting paper on how it was used for a gold mining operation- they used it to find additional potential lode deposits near an inactive mine by taking measurements along three parallel lines, and were using quite an expensive professional grade unit with multiple sensors arranged in an array- much like the geophones used for seismic studies. https://www.scielo.br/j/remi/a/NP37ZfKM4yFkFrLYtCXSq8c/?lang=en# I guess in your case Jim, we’re you running a line by hand with just 2 probes? Could you share a bit more about your setup?
