  1. Yeah, in Australia- wrong continent, wrong time… 😉
  2. I am curious also as to what the significant differences are between this coil and the White’s 6”. I understand the new one and original one are both concentric, so what makes the difference? Just curious if it would be worth the upgrade for someone with the original White’s 6” coil.
  3. Sorry about your bad luck! I sent mine in for the audio repair and that worked out well, and they replaced my 11 inch coil due to cracking. So that was at least two expensive postage billsthat I had to pay. Since then I cut off my slipping twist locks and I added $20 worth of snap locks. Then there was the nugget finder coil upgrade, and next maybe some foil tape and who else knows what?
  4. When my warranty runs out that may be a project too- just need to get adhesive backed conductive metal foil tape that can be soldered for grounding and with adhesive that can stand the heat of the sun on that dark cover, else paint the cover all white! 😆
  5. Very good write up Steve, thank you for taking the time to share it with us! The photos really make it also. Are you or Garrett putting it as an article for a prospecting magazine? I’ve seen some beautiful copper nuggets formed when glaciers pressed them from their lodes, have similar other soft metals like gold been found in Scandinavia by the same process where the nugget is not a quartz and gold specimen but has been “pressed” out like like the copper float nuggets have?
  6. You guys have been very quick with approvals- thanks!
  7. We’ll save the lunkers where we found them for you!
  8. Reese- I am curious as to your preference of using headphones, a external Bluetooth speaker (torus, etc), or just the stock built in one? And what were you using when you found the heart nugget? Nice find!
  9. Well Reese has been making it work well for him, love his heart nugget- 14-inches deep is a good indicator of how well the thing can work. I don’t know if he uses headphones or not, should ask him as I like to keep my ears open and use a torus instead.
  10. Yeah, seeing you throw it on the ground was the low point of it for you, sorry to see you go through that. I have to thank you though, I got mine fixed as soon as you released that ML AU note about how to prepare it for turning it in.
  11. Yeah, you think they would’ve gotten it right the first time…maybe. All good now, my turnaround time was about a week.
  12. Good on ya for getting it done- pretty nice now, isn’t it?
  13. This is an interesting paper on how it was used for a gold mining operation- they used it to find additional potential lode deposits near an inactive mine by taking measurements along three parallel lines, and were using quite an expensive professional grade unit with multiple sensors arranged in an array- much like the geophones used for seismic studies. https://www.scielo.br/j/remi/a/NP37ZfKM4yFkFrLYtCXSq8c/?lang=en# I guess in your case Jim, we’re you running a line by hand with just 2 probes? Could you share a bit more about your setup?
  14. Ah, tappets…. Ever read the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance? I still have my feeler gauges for adjusting the valves on my ‘68 BMW. It was fun and relaxing, and very spacious, working on that car’s engine! Talking about old engines, when you get around to writing again, consider including an introduction of the first steam donkey to the story! They were an awesome invention, deadly for many forests in the Sierra. I saw one running once during a demonstration. It was very loud, made a lot of smoke and steam. That one was stationary, but they told us how the loggers would have it winch itself through the mountains on skids to the next clear cut. Must’ve been ominous to see and hear such a smoke belching monster dragging itself through the forest like that. Most were used for the mines- cutting timber for shoring and water flumes.
  15. What do you think of the Himalayan? Saw their trials online from Antarctica, it’s a nice looking bike. How easy are they to get parts for in the states?
  16. Trail 90 for me, that compound low gear makes 4th top out at 20mph. It can handle very steep slopes and being a step-through makes it easy to bail out when needed! 😆 I recently got a trail capable ebike that I’ve been riding everyday to work, and hope to use for prospecting sometime, so the Trail 90 sits a lot now.
  17. I doubt it - Minelab just uses date of original purchase for warranty and does not use how much time was put on the unit for validity of a warranty. If you are looking for a used one and want to verify how much it was used, look at the front display screen buttons for wear, the tightness of the battery latch, scratches or wear on the bottom and feet of the main unit, and the condition of the audio and main coil cord jacks. Do the jacks seem loose or dirty inside? Check the audio and see if it sounds scratchy, especially on the older units that have volume control knobs. Are the membrane buttons pressed in, have scratches and look worn out? Don’t count on easily replaceable items like new looking coil skid plates, coils and shafts to determine how much time a unit has been used.
  18. Add a folding control head to it for even more portability- you will have to wrap a spacer around the shaft where the mount goes if it’s smaller diameter than stock: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4106131 I noticed there are a lot of people now selling them on EBay and Etsy if you don’t have access to a 3D printer.
  19. Garrett probably payed to insure the package, and probably would be more than happy to send you a replacement cuff. I would also send them a letter with your images asking if they would mind sending you a spare in case your nicely repaired one wears out.
  20. 🫢 Whatever you do, if you don’t know what it means, don’t google images for Simon’s term “budgie smugglers”! I really didn’t need that today! 😆
  21. When your son is a bit older, a great project to share with him is to make your own metal detector- there are many different designs on the web that would make a great introductory electronics project for a 10-year old!
  22. Your covers are A+ Doc! I used them on my Gold Monster, and now on my Equinox 800 and GPX 6000. They fit well and are good at keeping the dirt and (I’d guess) the rain out. Thanks for a great product!
  23. Minelab US took mine with just the control box- I removed the shaft for easier mailing as per Minelab AU’s instruction sheet on how to prep it (Simon posted it here)… https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/19956-finally-minelab-take-responsibility-for-screwing-up-the-gpx-6000-speaker/#comments
