  1. I got to go with the DTC (Deus Two Crew) to the coal mining town one last time before the Winter freeze. This place has been hunted hard over the past 50 years so it is a great training ground for me. I've made a few good finds there recently and I'm getting more comfortable with running the D2 on heavily iron saturated ground, but there are still some concepts that elude me. I've been running a variation of the Silver Slayer (Fast) program with Disc at 9, and Notch at 9-39, Silencer and B-Caps at 0, Reactivity at 1.5-2. I also set up a no-notch version of Fast and Deep HC to check iffy targets. This time out I was experimenting with different Disc setting and Notches and noticed that changing the Disc from 6 through 10 seemed to move the VID iron falsing numbers up a bit respectively. I know there is a new update coming that may address the iron falsing issues and I have seen a few videos about the D2 iron falsing and some work around ideas, but I still don't understand the relationship between Disc and Notch well enough to fully grasp how one affects the other. Coming from Noxlandia to the Deus 2 world, I did finally manage to figure out, through some discussions in the M-Core forum, that Silencer equates to FE1 (smaller and shallow iron) and B-Caps equates to FE2 (larger and deeper iron), which has helped me a lot. Even though I am still learning to decipher iron falses from good tones, I still managed to find a few interesting things. Most of these finds are mundane by forum standards, but they are bits of history that fascinate me. The coolest finds for me were the old buttons, Colt .45 revolver cartidges, a WRA Co (Winchester) .30-30 rifle cartridge, old silver plated wedding ring and a fancy silver plated spoon. The weirdest find was a coin spill of modern clad (1971-2001).
  2. Thanks for a real world report, strick! This is useful information without fluff or bias and it helps a lot.
  3. That looks so much better than the wire wrapped around the outside of the shaft. Well done, Carolina!
  4. Gigmaster shows how to change out your antenna wire in the video. You'll want to jump to the 5:55 mark. He also has the link to the wire on Amazon. You should be able to find it in black too, so you can't see the wire if it turns brown.
  5. Well thanks again, F350! I would like to see your separation tests when you get to those, but I'm pretty convinced at this point. 🙂 Sorry to hear about your tiny button getting lost. I have a buddy who says lost thing want to remain lost. I disagree. I think it's just hiding. It will turn up, probably in the last place you would think to look. 😉
  6. Well I haven't had the opportunity to do much water hunting with it yet, but I did a little along a lake shoreline and it didn't seem much different than my Nox with the 10x5"coil. But a real beach and water hunter could give you a better response... @Carolina ?
  7. So if it is not flexing like the original lower shaft does in some videos with the 11" coil, that is great news. It very well could be a carbon infused plastic of some kind making it stiffer and lighter. Well done XP!
  8. Yeah, if you look at the x-ray of the Deus 9" coil that strick posted you can see the processor circuit board and battery are pretty good size so that's probably why it's a little thicker. Most coils have just a small circuit board and no battery so they can be pretty slim.
  9. Now you made me clean my coil out. 😄 I just measured with my calipers and the cover off and it's 0.63 inches or about 9/16ths of an inch.
  10. It's 5/8" with the coil cover on and about 1/2" with it off.
  11. Does the "CF" shaft have any flex to it like the original D2 lower shaft? If it is carbon fiber there should be no flexing depending on the wall thickness. If it is carbon fiber or similar material, this is really good news.
  12. It looks like it was 3D printed. Should be an easy make for those who have access to a 3D printer. Some libraries even have them for public use.
  13. You don't have to wait for the thaw to find clad coins, they can't sink in the frozen soil, just walk around and pick 'em up! 😄
  14. As I watched some of the target shape videos, I noticed that the 2D shape changed with the height the coil was off the target. The higher the coil (or more depth), the more rounded the blob became. So it does indeed look like target depth and orientation will play a big roll in the way targets look on the 2D screen. While it should work very well for shallow targets, at extreme depth the 2D screen may be useless.
  15. Since the Coiltek 10x5" coil works with the 900, they may have the inside track to getting in with the Manticore, although I know the coil design was a big part of the M-Core mojo, so ML will probably keep that all secret and in-house for some time.
  16. Well I for one appreciate you and everyone else on this forum who share their experiences and information. That's what makes this community great! I was curious about the disc vs notch thing regarding masking/unmasking. There has been some buzz about it recently online and I'm still trying to get my head around it. Thanks for your insights.
  17. Congrats on the gold cross and thanks for your review of the 13" coil. Between yours and F350's reviews, I've pretty much decided to get one. One a side note, you mentioned you ran Disc at 8 and Notch at 10 to eliminate coin masking. I know the Disc at 8 would make 06, 07, 08 sound off with the iron tone, but wouldn't the Notch at 10 just blank out 00-10, or is that the purpose?
  18. Thanks again, F350! I think I'm pretty well leaning towards getting the 13" now that I've read your reviews. I know my ground has much heavier mineralization and using that 13" on a relic site here might make my head explode, but I won't know until I try it. Also I don't like having just one coil for the D2 and the 13" seems like a logical backup as well as a fine weapon to use on the large sports fields and the beach if I get to one again. Thanks for all your input! 😎
  19. That's some beautiful countryside! It's still so lush and green for the cold weather season. And congrats on the amazing saves, well done!
  20. For what it's worth, My Deus 2 came with a 9" coil and I love it. I have used it on parks, fairly large sports fields, ghost towns and a fresh water beach. It has performed well in all locations so far. I was and still am considering the 11"x13" coil to cover larger open areas like fields and beaches, but I feel like the 9" can handle anything and it is very good at separating targets and unmasking in iron and high mineralization, and hitting tiny targets. Also it's so light, I can swing it all day. That's just my perspective.
  21. It looks like another great hunt. Thanks for your initial thoughts on the 13" coil. I'm still on the fence, but I was in a place today that I could have used the extra coverage. I sometimes find myself in a hunt on a large area and pressed for time so I start going too fast with the 9" and I know I'm missing targets. I was wondering how well the 13" would do on a relic site that had a lot of iron. It looks like it worked well for you. Congrats, and keep up the great and honest reviews.
