  1. Since I'm relatively new, getting back into detecting a few years ago, I am pretty darn happy with the Deus 2 so far even with it's quirks. I started back up with the Equinox 800 after being out of the game for 30 years and it changed what I thought I knew about detectors, which wasn't really very much. Learning the Nox upped my game quite a bit, but I really started learning how much there still was to learn when I got the D2! I realize it has a steeper learning curve because it has many more nuances and gives me so much more control to learn. So while I'm looking forward to the next round of improvements in the coming update, I'm pretty happy using V0.71. I get finds every time I'm out with the D2 and I learn something more every time I use it. I just hope the new update doesn't put me back in the dark, but I don't think it will. Just my 2 cents. 😎
  2. Well that's something you don't find every day. Congrats on the sweet hunk of silver!
  3. That's how I understand it too. If you Disc at 7, everything 7 and below will sound like iron. However, for some reason that does not apply to Full Tones. If you use Full Tones, you have to Disc at 0 or below to hear any iron tones.
  4. Very cool finds again F350! So would you say you use the 9" coil more than the 13" coil?
  5. I agree it would be a nice feature to have. Maybe it will be in a future update. Before I got the D2, I always used vibration only on my pinpointers because I don't like to draw attention when I'm digging a target. But I haven't really missed using vibration with the MI-6 because the audio is through the headphones only and no one seems to notice it when I'm pinpointing a target in the ground. So for my type of hunting, as long as the MI-6 is paired to the D2, I don't think I need vibration, but that's just me.
  6. Congrats on the Silver Ring! I love your sandy soil, mine has turned to concrete for the winter. πŸ˜†
  7. Wow, great finds and congrats on the Beach Barber and all the other silver and copper!
  8. Great write up and some nice finds. Thank you again for sharing your findings with the 9" vs the 13" coil.
  9. All great finds NCt! Silver is always a welcome sight, well done!
  10. Thanks guys. I was aware of that setup which Jeff had mentioned before, and it's not a bad way to go, but F350 and I were discussing ideas for an at least water resistant solution using the puck mounted on the shaft, ala WS6 Master, so that the VID can be easily seen.
  11. The way I see it, the Manticore and probably EQ 700/900 releases were rushed to market just like the other two recently released machines to meet peak buying cycles and compete with the other products. It has become common practice to get your machine out there and fix the problems afterwards with all detectors (and most other products) and all of them are not finished products yet. Look at how many cars have factory recalls years after being released and sold. So I'm not surprised by any problems that show up in the early days of product releases and really it makes much more sense to wait on buying anything new these days. Just my current opinion.
  12. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all! Here's a topic that F350 brought up in another thread. I didn't want to hijack that thread so I'm starting a new one. Is there a way to waterproof or at least increase the water resistance of the WS6 Puck and still be able to mount it on the stem adapter on the shaft? I thought about putting the puck in a smaller (3-3.5") zip lock bag and pushing it back into the stem adapter. That might also provide an attachment point for the antenna wire to be near the puck so you could submerse the coil. I know the puck wouldn't be submersible, but it might keep water from wave splashes from soaking it. Has anyone tried to do something like this to use the WS6 Master setup on the beach near the water?
  13. That's an interesting question. I don't know of anyone who has tried that yet, but it seems like it would work. It would be easy enough to test. 😎
  14. That's a great start with the Manticore. As you get more comfortable with it, I'm sure you'll hit the gold with it too. Congrats on the silver!
  15. Well I'm all out of likes for the day... where can I buy a few extra likes? 😏 But great report, Col, and I echo that sentiment. Steve's shafts are works of art by someone who really knows his craft. They are unrivalled in the field.
  16. What a great hunt and excellent assortment of WWII era finds! Those buttons are WWII era Army issue and were usually found on jacket sleeves and shoulder tabs. The brass US insignia was mounted on the jacket lapel with a coin-shaped brass screw back. Congrats again on all the cool finds and a silver dime to boot, well done!
  17. I think Gigmaster shows how to cut that antenna wire down to a shorter length and reuse the clip in one of his videos.
  18. The curse is broken! πŸ˜† I finally hit gold with the D2! Of course there was no curse, there was a curve... a learning curve. There was and still is a lot to learn with the Deus 2, but I feel like I've turned a corner and perhaps made it to the next level. I've been experimenting quite a bit lately with programs and settings and have really gelled with Relic, Fast, and to some extent, Deep HC for the places I hunt and the targets I seek. I am land locked in the iron rich soil of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I hunt city parks, creeks, lake shores, and occasionally ghost towns and relic sites. Even in my parks there is iron loaded fill dirt under the sod and tons of modern metal trash in the sod. So the Fast program and variations of that have really worked well for me to separate and unmask good targets. I generally hunt in Pitch tones with Square audio because I like that slap in the ears when it pops a good sounding target tone through the garbage layers that stops me in my tracks. But a couple of days ago I was waiting for a detecting buddy to show up at the same old park we were at last week and nobody was in the park so I decided to play around with some setting while I was waiting. I fired up a the D2 and loaded up a modified wide open Fast program and switched to Full tones with PWM audio. I rarely hit play grounds because they are always busy but since I was the only one there, I figured why not. I took two steps into the tot lot and got a banging 50-51 tone. I figured it was a foil cap liner from a juice bottle, but just a inch or two under the wood chips was a beautiful 5.3 gram 14K gold ring with a black star sapphire center stone surrounded by small diamonds, which has already been claimed by the wife! πŸ˜‰ I seriously thought of just calling it a day after that because there was no way to beat that, but I was there to look for older coins so I stuck it out. I ended up with a silver earring back, 7 copper memorial pennies, no wheats or indians or silver dimes though, a 5 cent "Toy Money" coin, an older metal toy army jeep with "Chicago, USA" underneath, and other odds and ends, including a thick chunk of heavy brass colored metal with "maco" on it. So the ring made my day. Was it found because I switched programs? I don't know. I have been running my notched Fast program at 40 so I would have found it with that program for sure. It was probably sheer luck. Right place, right time kind of thing because that park is hit almost every day by detectorists according to a few locals I talked to. So whatever the reason, I'm happy to have finally found gold with the D2 and I feel like I am now comfortable enough with it to make any kind of changes I need to to suit the place I'm hunting on the fly. The more I explore with the Deus 2, the more I love it! We are finally learning to trust each other. 😎
  19. Very nice results with the 13" coil and Steve's Shaft. Congrats on the relics and old ring! Well done again!
  20. I started thinking about that double rig setup recently because my detecting buddy just got his WS6 Master D2 and I thought it would be fun to have a WS6 Master to just grab and go when we detect together and the Steve's Detector Rod setup with the 13" coil when I want to sanitize a big sports field of all its metal. πŸ˜† Then I saw your post and I'm thinking that's the way to go. Thanks again for all your insights! 😎
  21. What, no camo, F350? πŸ˜‰ But serious, sweet looking rigs. Now you got my gears a-grindin'. 😎
