  1. Those Tassels are calling see ya soon Gerry........... he`ll be back Joe D
  2. If you have to go and a gold prospector, Oneguy from this thread showed the way. May he be on those streets paved with gold.
  3. D4G, Aye ML obviously and debatable rightly protects their tech, in doing so has given us mighty tools for near 30 years. I doubt any single detector will ever do it all, not in our lifetimes at least.
  4. AU, nah I`d never tackle a Taipan with a detector they are much faster than a human only way is leave them alone or a 12 Guage ...... Phrunt I agree MLs involved in almost decapitating the Axiom, but it took two of them, a conspiracy for sure!!!!! Tis crazy to mix them, will rectify with a division, aye behind in that overhead tray is the mighty X coil CC 17' with the 12Xspiral fitted most used in FNQ heavy grass, not used a ML coil on the Z since first fitting a X coil. Who would/does๐Ÿคฃ GC the Expresso machine is left at home now, only go with an occasional cup of tea on missions. Coffee like alcohol I`ve found is not compatible with serious gold detecting, gold being the only drug we need๐Ÿ˜‰ But the Expresso machine is fired up firstly when returning from a mission. Nah not affiliated with any detector manufacturer, totally dedicated to the GoG ๐Ÿ˜‡
  5. Many Thanks, Gerry, have been trying to work out how it got damaged as have a pretty cool purpose built overhead tray I built for my first Troopy back in 86, now fitted to new Troopy (Toyota haven`t changed the basic body on the Troopy for 40 plus years). I`ve attached photos to give an idea of this tray. Scratching my head with what happened and doubt I`ll ever know. You are not wrong about the Axiom, to the user getting away from the settings complexity has been an ongoing goal for Manufacturers from year one, the 6K certainly is near fully auto and a brilliant gold magnet as is the Axiom with its easy to use settings, for me I haven`t determined which is my king as yet, which is only the second time in 40 plus years detecting gold, was a Garrett A2B vs Dtek Search King back in the early 80s. Otherwise I`d had an older one as backup other as king ,now I have 2 kings and the Z as backup. Spoilt rotten but having a ball.
  6. GJ and your pet taipans been retired............
  7. Dont think it was the ride, maybe the taipan the Axiom had to subdue on the way๐Ÿ˜‰
  8. Yeah you`d reckon buh can only speculate, see in time if others do same.
  9. Yep as long as the smoke stays in it`ll find that heavy stuff.
  10. Nah no pain at all, duct tape fixes all or in this case narrower insulation tape...... the Axiom soldiered on. Love it๐Ÿ‘
  11. Just back from a mission and had a wee problem with the head/LCD trying to part ways with handle, seems to be held in by a wad of silastic/silicone. (as per photo) This happened during travel in my overhead cushioned detector tray built into my Troop Carriers original 1986 model to current Troopy. The detector is still working AOK and will not be returned for warranty claim at least until end of 23 season, instead whilst back in my workshop will construct a bracket to hold head/LCD more securely. I also have been reassessing my judgment of its performance vs the 6K and now am of the opinion there is nothing between them, whereas before I have considered the 6K has a slight edge. I believe this is because I have through experience with settings obtaining better depth and sensitivity than when I made my first judgement. Am very impressed with its performance particularly amongst creek rocks where there is a considerable air gap between coil and ground. Please as this threads author I am not interested in this developing into a negative Garret or Manufacturers Bashing Thread. The Axiom is a positive gold magnet magic detector.
  12. Nah, Nah not retirement, reFirement ๐Ÿ˜‰ A most positive rewarding stage of life to fire you into new projects, PC games, toys, etc. etc. whatever the heart desires, just the body running a wee slower.
  13. Wow, Steve thank you for your journeys summary, it is a privilege to have also had a similar journey as I believe we are living in an era that makes such journeys possible and I hope and wish that your sharing of your journey details on DP will influence others to cast aside negativity and begin such a positive journey. We live in magic times where the sky is no limit.
  14. Thanks Dave. trialled Trilobite can see would be the go where current lease data etc is crucial.
  15. I started off way back using GPS waypoints, tracks etc. on a Magellan later switching to Smart Phone than to Garmin, the big advantage of this is the saved waypoints etc can migrate from one system to the next but in a proprietary protected system like MLs there seems to be no way to do this, thus for the future there seems no way around this unless Daves exchange2 extended has this ability. Does it Dave?
  16. Nah nah nah you fellas are way too tesstical, tis ya hearing that jumps up a notch when its suspected gold ๐Ÿ˜‰
  17. Ned, seems from my experience to be caused by strike and dip of reef, sometimes even going to the extent of appearing to have travelled uphill but not so if you think of the reef weathering taking into account its strike not necessarily following ridge lines. But I must add after years of making 11235634121 theories of why gold is where it is, I surrender and accept the Irish saying "tis where tis", assuming any theories of why sometimes can cost you gold, but sometimes are on the money. Enjoy the fun you are having.
  18. Usually I log onto DP early in the OZ morn. was watching live cricket 10.30PM OZ and logged on and as I`m off detecting tomorrow that was very fortuitous.Manticore upgraded Thank you Gerry from downunder.
  19. Nah.... trust me MN life`s too short to wrap yourself in cotton wool or stress yourself with what ifs, your body knows its new limits, "soak in it", life that is.๐Ÿ˜‰
  20. Aye, tis a rude awakening finding out we aren`t bullet proof and I agree we should be open with our experiences, it helps the healing process.
  21. Give it time, be positive you`ll come back, had bowel & appendix tumors removed, prostrate rebore, chemo etc back in 20. Was a hard year but magic professional health care, good luck, fit out of new Troopy and gentle 6K detecting brought me back.
  22. Geosense is MLs latest word/term, over the years in their detector development they have come up with many such protected words/terms covering their inventions. I have learnt to trust each and every one such ML detector "buzz" word and use each new detector in accordance with that belief. The reason I have developed this trust in ML is simply this trust has put the weight in the pocket, Geosense/6K has done so straight from the box, as ZVT, SETA etc etc. did. Disclaimer... I`m talking their detector development not their coil development for equally I`ve learnt not to trust that, even before the top X coils proved conclusively so on the Z. Like Steve posted if the Axiom had been released before the 6K, it also would`ve been hot like the 6K has proved to be. Me too I`d love to see a Z with Geosense and an Axiom with Geosense but back to the thread Axiom vs 6K simply Geosense did it for me but the Axiom is certainly no slouch and I hope Garrett keep "R and Ding" it.
  23. GAU, Aye between the 6K and the Axiom choosing depends on the users experience, capability and ground which will suit them best, thus "the piece of string". If what one of us do well with cannot be assumed to be so for all.
