  1. You`ve a bad case of FNQ wet cabin fever, Erik, I seen that big glowing light in the sky briefly a few days back so hang in there, we`re in the last month of it.
  2. I recall an old fella/dinosaur way back answered this new chums question "Where is it?" he simply put an arm out pointing and did a complete revolution. I reckoned then he was leading me astray, but I know now he nailed it. Steves not leading you astray folks, follow his tailgate simple message.
  3. KL go on you dont look a day older then 36.😉
  4. Reading Steves post of Alaska, the Palmer River Alluvial Goldfield FNQ geology is much similar with sedimentary slates, shales, siltstones etc. (Hodgkinson Basin Geology) Much of it is very quiet ground but it also is intruded on by igneous and metamorphics and has some hot to extremely hot areas with those extremely annoying hot rocks, but the main Palmer River alluvials are quiet to our detectors mostly. Like Alaska tons of gold come out of the early gold rush of the Palmer River Goldfield and the ongoing Electronic gold rush. I`ve just about given up on theories of where it is as theories mostly turn out to be just blinkers on the eyes that instead of putting you onto gold, lead you away from it, only certainty is as Steve says is where it is, old Irish truism "Gold Tis where tis". Whatever, Off Grid, it would be a massive challenge to compile meaningful data to us electronic prospectors on how hot is hot. GC I think Bruce Candy has branched off from only timings with the 6Ks GEO Sense PI, hopefully that may take us to the dead quiet only light weight gold signaling detector we yearn for.😉
  5. I concur with AU somewhat but I`ve detected some in NT and a lot in FNQ also, and I`ve found there is as hot as spots in all States detected in, from DP posts I`ve noted the US has also has hot spots thus assume it is a so for everywhere in the world, I do note "hot ground" near primary deposits but then there are areas that are encroached on by alluvial overburden of a negative "hotness" which are near impossible to work if distributed over surface and at depth over the primary deposits. Thus OG, I think to define detecting hot ground by presence of just say iron ores is too narrow a field, I suspect detectors like the Axiom that display a digital value can possibly be set as a standard for such but then detector manufacturers would need to all adopt the same standard for this data to be meaningful. As the Axiom becomes more widespread perhaps DP members could compile an Axiom database that helps data junkies.😉
  6. As we know volume changes on detectors especially the Z, the 6K and now the Axiom affect the sensitivity of the detector, you turn the volume down on these detectors you turn their sensitivity down as well, adding a headband like the Torus that has its own volume control can allow you to turn your detectors volume down and still hear the threshold but you are killing the detectors sensitivity if you go to the extreme. The Axiom demonstrates this to a tea, turn its volume down to 1, turn the Torus volume up until you have a nice steady threshold, you can maintain this nice steady threshold with the sensitivity on 7 on very hot ground but you`ve compromised sensitivity for a stable threshold, great powerful feature but like always there`s a compromise between noise and signal sensitivity. I recall JP touching on this subject in the early days of the GPZ, increase its volume, you increase sensitivity you also increase instability, I found 8 to be my happy median with the Z in most situations what each of us is comfortable with and can work on their ground is the go. Cobill, I`ve gone with Lunks initial recommendation of Avantree`s Torus and use them exclusively now on the Z, 6K and now the Axiom, way to go.
  7. Steve, your posts were absorbed before the $s were laid down, in particular my ears pricked on your use of the DDS, monos were preferred on PIs for a lot of us as you mentioned. More to follow once I`ve got my Axiom wings.
  8. No doubt its not looking good for dealers but I give em the yeh for the day, back in the "heyday" my dealer would send up to me on spec a new detector or coil to test, he knew gold was my thing and understood the new item was going to be a benefit to me, a relationship we both gained from, me no doubt more so. When he retired Minelab acknowledged he was the than longest serving OZ dealer they had, note he was a multidealer not just a Minelab dealer. I definitely give Dealers the yeh for the day.
  9. No doubt about it the 10x5 goldhawk is a top coil, gives the 6K even more sensitivity/versatility.
  10. On ya, start em early, can only comment on my son he used his eyes until he was about 10 (now approaching 45), his biggest was a 43gram solid by eye, he reckoned they glowed at him. Young eyes close to the ground perhaps I don`t know but he kills me with a detector too. I just think it calls him.
  11. Nah, Nah NK, prospectors dont retire they just keep on reFiring.ðŸĪŠ
  12. I found a use for the Axion backpack, it makes a tidy bag for coils in Toyota, old fella small coils to 14" that is. 😉 But a good backpack was/is a must for prospecting, current ones a Camelback KUDU20, made for cyclists but suits prospecting.
  13. Too many variables for there to be a conclusive test other than consumer popularity of a product. eg. the current thread on the Trash Can Lid coil, some consumers got good results some didn`t or the current thread on the QZ80 detector, some will buy and swear by them. Tolerance of electronic components and even coils is far finer than tolerance of the individual consumer.
  14. GJ geiger detector? The full story and nothing but the full story please.😉
  15. Many of us joined the 1Koz club in no time behind that rubbish lid, to a certain extent this success was/is being replicated by the GPZ w/. X CC coils more recently.
  16. Man of many talents, Cairns FNQ Marlin fisherman and singer... albeit one song.
  17. Yeah come with both the 2000 and early 2100s, two first ones I got worked on one channel only, third worked OK on both channels (no worries ML replaced quickly), they definitely got gold and taught us early on PIs + big coils = big gold deep. The ML plastic 18" replacement was much more reliable. Did not see many users using the small coil in those days, nothing wrong with it just those door stoppers at depth in mineralized ground way beyond the VLF capability was the go.
  18. Nah nah nothing in their features, tis the feeling, they simply take you to that heavy stuff.
  19. Thank You kind KL, I`d jump at the chance, the bears, the gaggle, SS but that Jeep nah nah, any chance you have a 70 series Toyota laying around? GC🖖
