  1. Ned, seems from my experience to be caused by strike and dip of reef, sometimes even going to the extent of appearing to have travelled uphill but not so if you think of the reef weathering taking into account its strike not necessarily following ridge lines. But I must add after years of making 11235634121 theories of why gold is where it is, I surrender and accept the Irish saying "tis where tis", assuming any theories of why sometimes can cost you gold, but sometimes are on the money. Enjoy the fun you are having.
  2. Usually I log onto DP early in the OZ morn. was watching live cricket 10.30PM OZ and logged on and as I`m off detecting tomorrow that was very fortuitous.Manticore upgraded Thank you Gerry from downunder.
  3. Nah.... trust me MN life`s too short to wrap yourself in cotton wool or stress yourself with what ifs, your body knows its new limits, "soak in it", life that is.😉
  4. Aye, tis a rude awakening finding out we aren`t bullet proof and I agree we should be open with our experiences, it helps the healing process.
  5. Give it time, be positive you`ll come back, had bowel & appendix tumors removed, prostrate rebore, chemo etc back in 20. Was a hard year but magic professional health care, good luck, fit out of new Troopy and gentle 6K detecting brought me back.
  6. Geosense is MLs latest word/term, over the years in their detector development they have come up with many such protected words/terms covering their inventions. I have learnt to trust each and every one such ML detector "buzz" word and use each new detector in accordance with that belief. The reason I have developed this trust in ML is simply this trust has put the weight in the pocket, Geosense/6K has done so straight from the box, as ZVT, SETA etc etc. did. Disclaimer... I`m talking their detector development not their coil development for equally I`ve learnt not to trust that, even before the top X coils proved conclusively so on the Z. Like Steve posted if the Axiom had been released before the 6K, it also would`ve been hot like the 6K has proved to be. Me too I`d love to see a Z with Geosense and an Axiom with Geosense but back to the thread Axiom vs 6K simply Geosense did it for me but the Axiom is certainly no slouch and I hope Garrett keep "R and Ding" it.
  7. GAU, Aye between the 6K and the Axiom choosing depends on the users experience, capability and ground which will suit them best, thus "the piece of string". If what one of us do well with cannot be assumed to be so for all.
  8. AFN you have nailed it, the edge the 6K has over the Axiom, from my hours behind both, is what ML call Geo Sense when running in one of the Autos. If you cannot handle the Autos on the 6K you are probably better off with the Axiom but don`t start using the Axiom on full sensitivity go no higher than 3 until you have some hours on the clock.
  9. Not a lot between them, both are magic lightweight cordless PIs, however I`m still on the fence, waiting to find a virgin patch with the Axiom, it has not got much on flogged 6K patches, once I`ve flogged the first Axiom patch that`s only a few swings away .... I`ll flog it with the 6K that`ll sort it out for me. Well sort of, because the Axiom with its settings and large OEM coil choice, thus versatility will keep it in my arsenal if its just short of the 6K as I suspect. Just a matter of working out which is my grab and go to machine. MN tis a bit like that piece of string....
  10. Top insights Gerry to start this this thread, I`ve not used iron reject/discrim at all in my 45 plus years, mainly because there is not any need for such out in the unworked fringes where an occasional horseshoe/nail/bullet/pellet is encountered. Aged legs are dictating those long searches in rugged country via shanks pony are near over so part of this season on day trips I`m amongst the junk in closer to the mines/settlements. I will be following this thread with much interest to pick up any hints from those who work such areas that may help the Manticore or Axiom w/. DD score amongst the junk without losing what`s left of my sanity from our crazy fever. Young fellas get out into the unworked fringes whilst your legs can...... it can only drive you crazy but.... when you score... tis magic no.
  11. New tech detectors give us these patches, the Z plus X coils CC were shown up by the 6K then along came the Gold Hawk now Xceed which shows there was life in those areas still, but if you`ve been around since the early VLFs then you know nothing has changed except tech advances uncover more continuously. The Electronic Gold rush goes on...... and may it do so for many years.............
  12. Nah I have got off to a very slow start to season, not even a scrap as yet...... virgin patch hunting with the Axiom out in the fringes, will weaken soon and visit an old patch for a hit. Reckoned if I were inclined to travel overseas, Alaska would be the go with meeting Steve icing on that cake.
  13. Perhaps the Garrett Axiom is an alternate worth considering, good range of OEM coils, discrim. DD, light, ergonomic, cordless, powerful with easy to get at settings. I cannot say how it would go as a relic detector, I only chase gold with it downunder here.
  14. On ya GC got similar results with the Coiltek 10x5, waiting on son to get his 6K to run together before 6K upgrade. Still getting my head around the power of the Axiom, tis a magic machine with stabilty/extra punch in coils it seems only the aftermarket coils bring to ML.
  15. Seems I owe you an apology SS, thought it was you that taught nurse Paul his "slow down partner tactics" but it is clear was KL trained the lad. Haven`t seen a post from him for awhile, has KL censored him?
  16. Gold detecting is like fishing about 5% get about 95%, the reason being simple that 5% take little notice of the consensus, they hunt with a mindset discipline/purpose, was that way at the beginning of the electronic gold rush is still that way now.
  17. GJ, that is funny but at the same time on the money, research all you wish, learn geological methods but that will only take you to where its been found by others before you, go where others believe it is a waste of time, if you spend the time/persistence/patience you`ll be rewarded, time and faith in yourself, your ability and your detector is all it takes. Tis simple as that, FarTraveller or is that too simple?😉
  18. Yeah gotta agree, but you dont know this until your an old bull and that`s no bull.... 😉 How many cows?????
  19. Mighty Detector but I`ve replaced it with a Manticore, early indications are the Manticore may fill the CTXs boots, time will tell but I suspect the CTX will join the GB2 as a long term "classic".
  20. Took almost 3years back in 81, had totally no idea at all, common comment from all people of my acquaintance was that you cannot find gold with a box full of wires and a bunch of knobs on outside of box. Found the usual ferrous rubbish, coins and other goldfield artifacts. I now know how incorrect that early perception was and that in those 3 years I went over many ounces. Detector was a Bounty Hunter RB7, the detector that hooked me proper was the Garret A2B. It proved that scraps/dinks make up the most gold weight of the goldfields in my part of OZ, that the big bits were few and far between, but no doubt they were adrenaline pumping finds.
