  1. Interesting this Bogene method it goes against the "traditional" always a threshold but there you are, certainly will have a shot at it, plus your observation re. high smoothing on small stuff, have a shallow broken down reef that I believe I`ve taken all detectable gold off last weekend that`s just waiting for these methods. To date never used high smoothing alternate between off and low, depending on ground noise & depth? Your obviously having a ball with the GPZ, tis a gold magnet for sure.
  2. On you Steve your the wise one and I`ll follow your wisdom.
  3. I won`t give my credentials, but assure you it is my trade and advanced trade qualifications, which I practised for many years, 20 years manufacturing portable low voltage refrigeration for mobile and solar applications, a very profitable endeavour long before the big manufacturers seen that market. There is plenty of confusion in this area. I suspect the 10 amp figure Fred deduced was from dividing the GPZs battery capacity(72 watt/hr) by its voltage 7.2 volts. My explanation of this matter comparing it to water, pressure, volume etc is a time proven way of explaining these matters in a manner that I believe applied in Freds case. All what you say is correct and all what I say is correct. In this case the GPZ battery requires approx. 4 hours of charging which gave my figure of 1.5 amps, the actual 110/240 volt charger max output is 1.67 amps. No confusion here, only in getting my message across. Batteries capacity of GPZ battery is in Watt/hrs which is what I was on about. I don`t doubt your qualifications. However I have the runs on the board for using the physics of eleketricity in a practical manner. I always kept the smoke in well nearly always
  4. Chris, Yes batteries are rated in amp/hrs. Sorry mate we will have to agree to disagree, volts X amps = watts which is a measure of power, you cannot divide watt/hrs by volts to give amps. Watt/hrs is a measure of capacity. Give you a clue to what I`m on about have a look at the output in amps and volts marked on the 240/110 volt charger that comes with the GPZ.
  5. Fred, I am not a very good tutor, in fact I`m a total failure, the GPZ battery is 72 watt/hrs CAPACITY, if it is say fully discharged and takes say 4 hours to recharge, divide the 72 watt/hrs by that 4 hours. That gives us the figure of 18 watts POWER, divide that again by your charge battery voltage 12 volts that gives us 1.5 amps CURRENT(FLOW). How did you get 10 amps? remember amperage is a measure of flow not capacity. The amount of power required to recharge a 72 watt/hr capacity battery is 72 watts in a hour, if it takes 4 hours to recharge it the equation above tells us you need a flow rate of 1.5 amps at 12 volts. Plus because of inefficiencies such as some power being converted to heat as noted, add a wee bit more. Rechargers for batteries should be never placed on in or near a flammable surface, OZ has a few burnt out detecting vehicles in remote locations, testament to this. Wow you have a tank with a 155amp alternator. The trailer with a deep cycle battery is certainly the way to go. Now for the Quiz...................
  6. I always question claims that go against my own experience, but with this thread and others on salt ground, and with the continuing update of ground balancing techniques, it is fairly obvious ML is in defensive mode. I question in particular ML`s release, find it amazing, as overall it is a well thought out detector right down to the simple things like the stem and bungee adjustment. But then are these critical fellows upping the GPZ into a unstable condition? Easy to do, but just as easy to reset.
  7. Wow, he is certainly not a happy customer. Remarkable, if his criticism is true, why didn`t ML tweak to this early in the piece before release? Can`t bitch about mine, just found the GPZs second broken down reef in country that has been flogged by everything and everyone. Having a ball, from default setting upped volume and sensitivity two notches, vary between difficult and normal and went back to low audio smoothing, found current patch from a indicator 8.24 gram solid at measured depth of 22" in creek that had also been flogged. Tested audio response in difficult over find in normal less response but still positive, low audio smoothing no drama over no smoothing, but my country has no salt and is only moderately mineralised. Very interesting for country around Leonora which had been no drama to the SD2100 back last century.
  8. Perhaps I`m enamoured with my new Deus, but I hope XP as well as the mainstream detector Companies, monitor this 4M. A small high freq coil/detector/pinpointer of the Deus concept coupled with their remote/software, might just be the go.
  9. The sort of historical data that can be assessed with Maprika can be enhanced even further making such very powerful check out Find`s Treasure Forum under mapping, using win 7`s snipping tool it is not difficult to overlay such on Google Earth. Very powerful resource costs bugger all just time, and can lead to increased finds, whether coins, relics and gold.
  10. I have a garret pro pointer, but have found is ok for the .5 gram and up but not for the specks the GPZ is detecting. Steves adaption of the GB2 is along the line of what I feel is needed, the sensitivity at its high frequency makes it so. For my use I have no need for discrimination. The size and shape of the pro pointer would be ideal if it had the ability of the GB2. I guess for the manfactures how do they do that plus handle the ground. Maybe a high freq Deus like pin pointer, look how small and lightweight their detector is they incorporate in the coil, with a wireless receiver on other shoulder.
  11. Recently came across Maprika a free mapping program, versions for PC, Iphone & android, but what seems impressive about it is the mapping database it has for US, lot of old US maps for the relic and coin hunter. http://www.maprika.com/
  12. The GB2 must be the longest running still current detector ever on the market.
  13. She certainly is a lying bitch first up, well I gave her the spurs to get her out of the habit. Gave her a run yesterday, but really got aggressive using the discrim and the 3 notches, think I over done it a bit she got the sulks and wouldn`t talk to me. Yeah, $500 - 600 for the Deus coils doesn`t seem that bad when you consider the asking price for some of the PIs. Wait for the GPZ coils, that`ll sting us.
  14. On ya, John, we`re like a pair of kids with new toys, and why not indeed???
  15. Its those gold half sovereigns, that`ll test it, there is got to be more on this site. They come in at 70-71 (in air) ID a lead roofing washer comes in around the 72-74 ID(in air) and there are zillions on the site, just a matter of patience amongst the trash and to learn how to utilise the Deus`s features, those tones might be the key. Regardless a challenge and good fun. Yeah my impression of the rod assembly is it seems a wee weak, but if made of super strong plastic shouldn`t be a drama, that may be why its price is so ridiculous.
  16. They can have that stuff, we only have to handle a irate JP if we accidently poach on his turf. Rather wrestle a taipan.
  17. Took the plunge and got a Deus, arrived a couple of days ago. Current version 3.2, the next version 4 should be here later in year or early 16 apparently. It will add features to current Deus, but if you buy the new coil that comes with 4 (new detector) you get more features.( ? don`t know) I live on edge of old mining ghost town, been flogged for 30 plus years by every man and his dog. Wandered over site, extremely trashy for couple of hours, Deus scored a 1906 British Penny. Surrounded by metal trash, possibly the Deus`s superior reactivity made this score or just fortunate, time will tell. The concept is mainly why I purchased it, plus that notch GB, and the 4 pinpoint modes, 3 non motions can be searched in, etc etc all good marketing stuff that got me in. Could not get a clear yes or no from the net. Some swear by it others curse it but tis like a feather after the GPZ. But certainly has me refired on coins. As my son has a CTX we have a duel in a few weeks when he comes up. If the Deus is a winner I`ll grab the 4 coil and update, use an old stem have hanging around and presto I`ll have 2 deus`s another tick for their marketing
  18. Reading these posts make the hair stand up at back of head, think I`ll stick to my backyard.
  19. Understand where your coming from, it is a scary feeling and wrecks the sense of security and harmony one has when out there, sad to hear you folks have that also. Same thing happened here way back had the Missus and kids camped with me in a top gold field, lovely waterhole, had done well over the years there. Walked into a new catchment area, took a shortcut across inside of bend, before I new it was amongst a cash crop. Sneaked out back to camp packed up and left. Been a number of murders in that area since, definitely wild horses couldn`t drag me back.
  20. Think your refired rather than retired, way to go.
  21. Wow, not seen one of them before. Sort of a updated dolly pot very neat.
  22. Right on, many thanks Steve for advice and pasting link. Unfortunately only took one photo of each back a bit, they reside in a bank safety deposit box 120ks away. Will do at first opportunity, for now just add a few other photos of other nuggets.
  23. Crickey, I`ve a look a like for the Croc Dundee here, take any offers over $4000/ounce. Actually looks a bit like Tasmania, something that fell off OZ.
  24. All the intrigue and espionage of a good soap opera just to get us detectors. Not to worry Google might get in on the act and slice em all.
