  1. They can have that stuff, we only have to handle a irate JP if we accidently poach on his turf. Rather wrestle a taipan.
  2. Took the plunge and got a Deus, arrived a couple of days ago. Current version 3.2, the next version 4 should be here later in year or early 16 apparently. It will add features to current Deus, but if you buy the new coil that comes with 4 (new detector) you get more features.( ? don`t know) I live on edge of old mining ghost town, been flogged for 30 plus years by every man and his dog. Wandered over site, extremely trashy for couple of hours, Deus scored a 1906 British Penny. Surrounded by metal trash, possibly the Deus`s superior reactivity made this score or just fortunate, time will tell. The concept is mainly why I purchased it, plus that notch GB, and the 4 pinpoint modes, 3 non motions can be searched in, etc etc all good marketing stuff that got me in. Could not get a clear yes or no from the net. Some swear by it others curse it but tis like a feather after the GPZ. But certainly has me refired on coins. As my son has a CTX we have a duel in a few weeks when he comes up. If the Deus is a winner I`ll grab the 4 coil and update, use an old stem have hanging around and presto I`ll have 2 deus`s another tick for their marketing
  3. Reading these posts make the hair stand up at back of head, think I`ll stick to my backyard.
  4. Understand where your coming from, it is a scary feeling and wrecks the sense of security and harmony one has when out there, sad to hear you folks have that also. Same thing happened here way back had the Missus and kids camped with me in a top gold field, lovely waterhole, had done well over the years there. Walked into a new catchment area, took a shortcut across inside of bend, before I new it was amongst a cash crop. Sneaked out back to camp packed up and left. Been a number of murders in that area since, definitely wild horses couldn`t drag me back.
  5. Think your refired rather than retired, way to go.
  6. Wow, not seen one of them before. Sort of a updated dolly pot very neat.
  7. Right on, many thanks Steve for advice and pasting link. Unfortunately only took one photo of each back a bit, they reside in a bank safety deposit box 120ks away. Will do at first opportunity, for now just add a few other photos of other nuggets.
  8. Crickey, I`ve a look a like for the Croc Dundee here, take any offers over $4000/ounce. Actually looks a bit like Tasmania, something that fell off OZ.
  9. All the intrigue and espionage of a good soap opera just to get us detectors. Not to worry Google might get in on the act and slice em all.
  10. Steve, Sounds like the go, I`ll give the forum classifieds a shot with a smaller piece. It will be a experience to see if one can overcome postage, insurance, customs etc We just don`t seem to have a market for the larger stuff downunder. Well that seemed easy to list, see how it goes. http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/classifieds/item/82-australian-gold-nugget/
  11. Your memory is correct I believe Hobo, I should have added in modern times to clarify what I was on about. Japan, Kuwait, Iraq etc Since you`ve become the worlds super power. Yeah the funny money flows, no way they`ll let Greece default, you`d reckon. OZ dollar has been trending downwards against the US thus gold is over $1500/ounce OZ. We have bugger all manufacturing, continuing balance of trade deficit which can only get bigger if China & India stop buying our iron ore. We are like a bunch of Nero`s fiddling while Rome burns, seems we are facing a big devaluation of our dollar, which will be good for the gold price downunder.
  12. That's it I`ve sold at gold plus 10% premium for those nice ones, try for plus 40% premium. Now how does one tap into your market safely. Ebay has worked but not after a lot of relisting into US and Germany, any suggestions?
  13. Current negotiations of the IMF in Greece are of interest or not? will Greece default this Friday or will they be given more breathing space again? Either way this game of monopoly should be good for gold. Toss a coin, mine come up golds at the bottom. Perhaps the IMF should invest in a coin and not one with heads on both sides. All funny money, gold is a currency that has survived through time.
  14. Got a feeling as we get a few yards in behind the GPZ, we`ll revert to GB manual when on a patch as per the PIs, more so when retrieving those smallies. But patch hunting with the GPZ in auto GB, it appears to be much better than the PIs in that respect, not knocking the PIs. But I believe for the newcomer leave it as is at first, there is no need to change from its default until you have the feel. KISS
  15. The hipstick certainly takes the weight off the shoulder plus with the "midway" hook up takes a lot off the arm and holds the GPZ in detecting position when you take you hand off. You can walk and swing much more naturally.Simple and effective. KISS DDancer, Freds on the money dig every signal also those quiet ones that null over the centre, ( like a double signal ferrous trash can give) good chance they are deeper stuff. And when the detector warbles a wee investigate. Enjoy downunder.
  16. Crickey!! That`s relativity for you.
  17. Bit the bullet and have a Deus on the way, son has a CTX so we can compete??? on the coins, have been having some fun with the 705, enough to get me back into coins after 20 years plus just gold. NQ OZ But as to which machine for coins???? GPZ for gold in my part of the world for sure, can imagine what it`ll be like on those smallies once a small coil is available. Guess the coin market is huge compared to the gold, thus all the options.
  18. Have now done enough time with the hipstick to know it is a permanent part of my prospecting, have adapted the midway hookup just under the GPZs screen as per Freds mod, way to go, I should have listened to that young fellow JPs recommendations way back. "No fool like an old Fool"!!!!! Thank you Paul your blood should be bottled.
  19. Yes, if someone pays that for it, that is what it is worth to them, and good on the seller for value adding. Looking at the photo it looks like it is a piece that could have come from NQ OZ, (into the dolly pot), would be interesting to know roughly where it came from in OZ.
  20. Fred, on solar panels and angling at your latitude, for our mobile application this is not ideal. Just put your panel flat on roof of vehicle, the output will not approach its max but todays solar panels are much better at working in less ideal positions. Better to add more panel power than required at a $1 a watt or less then have the drama of shifting panels around. I`ve Sikoflexed my panels direct to canopy fibreglass roof. Simple out of the road and no drama.
  21. Well I`m going back to the future, and consider the VLF could be king again. The GPZ has been said to blur the line between the PI and the VLF, XP with the Deus has brought us a "software" detector, that blurs the line between notch discrimination and GB, and as the ferrite "rod" GB method for the GPZ seems in a way along this line. Suspect Minelab will bring a software update to address those saturated salt problems, the ferrite "rod" being a interim part solution. As a total ignoramus who has bugger all knowledge of how our detectors work, I feel that is the direction detectors may go. Software radio transmitters and receivers are coming into that scene, your home PC can be transformed into a all band receiver with a hardware link to powerful software, why not detectors too? Lightweight, upgradable software detectors that address the use and power of a lightweight CPU, wireless links etc etc that may cut out obsolescent to some extent. That $1000 powerful discriminating upgradable lightweight multifrequency vlf gold detector may be only a few years away.
  22. Yes that is what we call shellite or white spirit, I use it in my little Coleman single burner unit that resides in my Toyota. Way back before LP gas us OZ plumbers used it in our soldering irons. Can well imagine its effect in a combustion engine. Believe its heat content is way above gasolene or what we call petrol..
  23. Wow, the GPZ is the star in a lot of videos of late, been on the market for what 3 months. Good stuff, video records of this part of the electronic gold rush.
  24. I think in the GPZ at least, you can see that they listen to input from users, and JP in particular apparently. I guess they have a lot of filtering input from OZ forums. Hopefully my input in making the GPS on the GPZ and CTX more functional and not relying on mapping internet. Dale, I know you have stated you would never use the GPS on your GPZ or CTX, but would you consider using it if you had Oziexplorer on it rather than have to go through the internet to google earth?
