Sampling For Mineralization With The Axiom Ground Balance Window
JCR replied to timbus59's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I don't think there is any difference between a VLF & PI detector, but on a VLF, Ground Balance numbers do not indicate the level of mineralization. It indicates the general type & conductivity of the ground. With that said, your idea may be valid, the same as using GB #s to trace Black Sand deposits. But this has more to do with Specific Gravity in an undisturbed setting. Rock piles would be much more random. The older analog VLFs that had an analog meter often had a Calibration point to differentiate between Mineral vs Metallic. This feature was used to sample ore to determine it's potential content. You would think modern digital machine could/would offer this same feature for ore sampling. -
Very neat.

The metal washer will not move relative to the coil so will not cause a false signal. Perhaps you could find or fabricate something out of stiff plastic instead.

I would contact Dimitar, he has always been willing to help if possible. Otherwise that break should be repairable with marine grade epoxy and a stainless steel reinforcement washer on the outboard side.

Not gold nuggets, but I have dug some unbelievably small low conductors at 2-3 inches in bad dirt running M2, even with the bigger coils. Very seldom anything desirable but impressive. I would be afraid to run Goldfield M on my sites!

I Finally Got Thimbled, And Also Got My First Walker!

I'm enjoying watching your & your friend's new Channel. Well done. -
I actually have all 6 coils. They all have their place for various site conditions and are all excellent. You should be able to get any of them in 5 pin from Richard at Backwoods.

Welcome from East Texas. I enjoy the Vista X also,

Overall, I will use probably use the Legend more hours than the Versa. The Versa is my primary choice for the more difficult conditions; very heavy iron trash, deeper targets in mineral red dirt, but I will have worked the Legend there too. The Legend would be my first choice for hunting in Aluminum trash, but I will later go back with the Versa. These are the scenarios that I have found where one has an advantage over the other for me. Except for in these "special" conditions, both machines are neck & neck on performance. Both are equally rugged. Like any detectors, each will "see" things the other will miss. That is why I will use both on a site. That is why I will also work a good site with the Tarsacci, Vista X and/or some of my other units. They each have unique qualities. That is why I will also try to get Nokta's relic PI they are to introduce.

Keith Southern advocated for something similar. He described his idea as a Sonic Picture of a target.

What EL NINO just stated for me too. The Legend is an excellent all around detector. Very deep and accurate if set up & used correctly. Where it falls short for me is on deeper targets in my mineralized red dirt. The V1.14 Dt adjustment helps significantly. The Be mode also, but Dt is more practical for me unless the ground is very clean & I am only searching for deep larger relics. Because I have the Versa, it will be my primary unit for deeper targets on my red dirt sites both with and without iron. I will still use the Legend with the LG 35/13” coil too. On low mineral sites set up right with the big coil & using Dt it can be deeper than the Versa on some targets. I’m glad to have both rigs.

The Legend Beast Mode Demonstration
JCR replied to Nokta Detectors's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
Jeff, did you experiment with Dt in Park mode on those flagged targets? The little extra depth I can get with BE mode comes with little to no extra target information compared to Dt enhancement at practically the same depth. -
A very good thread topic.

At some point I intend to set my test back up in better planned EMI free conditions. The Legend seems to also have two main TX frequencies no matter the mode(except BE) or even SMF selection. The secret sauce is evidently in the signal processing.
