  1. How ironic is that !!! Awesome. Those french coins get around. When I first got my CoRe I hunted my parent's back yard in Phoenix and found three French coins in the same hole. Not as old as yours. Weird. Enjoy your new machine! Dean
  2. Dustman- I too, live in AZ. I would recommend the Nokta Fors Core. I have used one for over a year now. I have also used a G2+ and felt that the CoRe served me better. Just my humble opinion. Dean
  3. Yes. .56 caliber Spencer. Black powder rim fire cases. One of these has a primer so it is an early transitional case from rim fire to primers - circa 1870. Dean
  4. Took the new Nokta Fors Relic out for a short (3 hours) hunt yesterday afternoon to a post Civil War era site. Very trashy and we have hit this place with multiple detectors. The easy pickens are pretty much gone. The Fors Relic did not disappoint! Keith and Monte's impressions and assessments regarding this machine are right on. Here is a pic of the more significant finds from yesterday. Two more eagle buttons and a under wear button from a spot that is a carpet of square nails and has been hit hard by various machines. It jumps on copper and lead like these .56 Spencer cases and bullet. It has superior unmasking qualities and the processor is super fast. Nails are not a problem. We (the machine and I) struggled a bit with flat, rusty tin reading as a good target, as all machines do, but I think that will improve as I learn the machine. So far, super impressed! I'll share more about the machine as I put more time on it. HH! Dean
  5. Received my new Fors Relic from Chris at AZO today! Assembly went well. Another well built machine from Nokta. Hopefully, I can get out tomorrow afternoon and give it a go. I'll post my initial impressions after a hunt or two. Dean
  6. Thanks for the comments, everyone! Chris- Yes, I'm back in the gold. I took a little break from chasing gold and have mostly been focusing on chasing relics lately as a couple of family members purchased detectors and we found a great old post Civil War era site that has produced some very nice finds. Very different "social" type of hunting. It's been fun. Hope the gold gods down south have been treating you well! Dean
  7. Great, actual field use, review of the MXS. Great finds! Miles of open fields to hunt with ancient relics....heaven on earth! Thanks, Rico! Dean
  8. Thanks, Chuck! Nope, not in my mouth. Perhaps it would have been safer there. Dean
  9. I bought mine because it worked better at finding gold than two bent coat hangers. Dean
  10. Stormy yesterday and for the next few days with a short pause today. I took advantage of the time between the storms, grabbed the SDC, and chased down 15 little nugs for just over three and a half grams. There are only 14 in the pic because I dropped one on the floor and couldn't find it . I just need to find bigger nuggets!!! Good luck! Dean
  11. I not aware that Nokta said they are going to discontinue the CoRe (or anything else) since the introduction of new models.
  12. The FR is the same frequency as the Gold+ and has some additional program features as Dilek mentions. It's not water proof though!
  13. Terry, The 5000 is a great machine! My take on the topic, having put the CoRe though it's paces, is basically one of ergonomics. All of the machine's you are considering are excellent choices, IMHO. I strongly considered the Racer2 because of the control panel/display being on the handle. I went with the Relic based on Keith and Monte's reviews as to the programming being more tilted to relic hunting as that is mostly what I do with a VLF. Unfortunately, Arizona doesn't have any beaches....YET..... still waiting for California to slide off in to the ocean. So, I can't comment on the beach hunting bit. Good luck with your decision! Fun having all these great choices!! Dean
  14. What argyle said. Go for it- get one. Enjoy it. You really can't go wrong. I have the CoRe AND just ordered the Fors Relic both for relic/coin hunting. I use a PI for nugget hunting. Unless you plan on hunting tailing piles or fairly benign ground - get a PI unit for your nugget hunting. Good luck! Dean
  15. Great find! I love finding those old relics while looking for nuggets. Dean
  16. Great video! That is persistence!! Thanks for posting that. Dean
  17. We went back to the Calvary out post where I found the eagle buttons last weekend. This time I was armed with my X-Terra 70. I sold my FoRs CoRe to my buddy because I ordered a FoRs Relic from Chris at AZO...which should be here at the end of the month. So, my buddy, brother, and I armed with two CoRes and an X-Terra gave it a go. No eagle buttons this time but I scored a beautiful silver broach some .56 Spencer cases (one un-fired), Ox shoes, and an old iron wrench. Everybody scored Spencer cases and bullets plus another un-fired Spencer Long. Beautiful weather, great friends, metal detectors, and a great site...Awesome! Silver broach with stones in great shape. .22 Long Rifle compared to it's big rim fire brother-.56 spencer. HH Dean
  18. Nice! Yeah, I wouldn't coin hunt without a pin pointer either.
  19. This afternoon netted another eagle button. This one is a large coat button in great shape. Some other stuff as well. Ray- This area is quite near a very small historic mining town. I believe you are right- it must have been a small Calvary out post to protect the settlers in the area. Today's finds... Strange horse shoe, some Spencer and Henry cases plus bullets. No coins yet but they gotta be there. I will re-size even smaller next time! HH. Dean P.S.- Ray, you are welcome to borrow one of mine while you are here!
  20. Thanks guys! I'm gonna head back out this afternoon after my "honey-do" list is complete. I'm going to pack the little 5" coil along and see what else lurks in among the iron targets. Absolutely beautiful today here in the "Zone"...about 70* and sunny. HH. Dean
  21. What Keith said! I'm getting one or the other. Thanks! Dean
