............Good to see those faulty X coils still delivering the goods. Well done Rick!  ?

OK I’ll bite, if a Minelab GPZ control box or coil didn’t Ferrite balance they would be considered “faulty” and replaced, this is not to say the coils mentioned are no good just not optimal. Clearly they find good gold, this constant jibing and digging just for the sake of it has grown very thin, if X balancing wasn’t needed then it wouldn’t be provided in the menu and a calibration tool would not be in the box.

In this day and age witnessing a nice haul like this is great to see and I congratulate Rick on his successes. Also great to see Davsgold posting again, sending my best wishes to him on a speedy and full recovery.

Bugger Dave! I had no idea, Glad to hear you're on the mend. All the best to you and Ronnie.

As for the X-coils, Ricks visit was the first time I got to see one in the flesh and see it in action.

I invited Rick and his lovely wife Kaye over to a patch I'm working that has produced a few ounces and is still giving -albeit very sparingly now. This patch is one of the worst hot rock infested patches I've ever come across.

I wanted to see if it could pull anything more on this ground which I've hit pretty hard with my standard 14" coil.

Nothing scientific, no super duper tests, no like for like, I just wanted to see and hear an X-coil working and maybe run my coil over any targets he found, if any.

First thing I must say, and I stress this is my opinion only, visually these coils fit and finish are on par with anything from the mainstream manufactures and better than some. The leads I understand have improved since Rick got his coils and if so that was one of my main concerns more so than sending my coil to the chop shop, that didn't really worry me.

Rick was running in normal most of the time and his coil ran every bit as stable as my 14" and sometimes I even think better.

He pulled out a nice 5+ gram bit out from amongst the hot rocks which impressed me no end.

The day was an eye opener for me and answered a lot of questions I had (all in the positive).

Thanks again Rick.

Thanks madtuna, you are welcome, and likewise it was a pleasure catching up with you. We will be back next season, with Dad in tow ! And you are right, those very different hot rocks were something else !

Likewise, I can not fault the finish of the X coils. My 17 has no problem with the cable, although the 12 did  " unwind " a little at the coil end, but nothing that can't be fixed by good old duct tape ! I believe old mate in Russia has also fixed that early issue.

Hells bells Dave, we hadn't heard either, glad you survived and are on the mend, all the best mate for a full recovery !

Cheers,

Rick

That's a nice pot of gold.  Your seasons are ending as ours will begin/continue for the next few months.  It is still much too hot in many places in the south.

Dave, you get well.

Now I have watched the videos.  That is one BAD coil.  You could hardly keep the nuggets from being too loud!

I do have a question about the wires you are wearing.  Are you plugged in to the GPZ and then have a speaker and you are not using the WM12?

Yes I have been out of action for over a month now, been quite sick really.  I had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery in the RPA hospital in Sydney.  Recovery is going very well and have been back home now for about three weeks.

It's bit of a shock when you think your fairly healthy and active to have this happen, but I just have to follow the Dr's instructions and recover, which means not doing much of anything for awhile yet.

cheers dave

Just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery Dave. That's scary stuff, and I am happy you survived it. And yes, follow the doctor's orders! ??

Rarely use the WM12 these days, find it a bit directional and just another thing I need clipped to myself. The lead is just a guitar amp lead, plugged into an SP01 booster, then to dual speakers. Works perfectly, and I don't have to worry about break up of the signal, especially if I want to film a nugget dig.

To be perfectly frank, the Minelab wireless systems are crap for the money you pay for them !

Cheer, Rick
