Northeast
Morning all, I have been looking for something that will essentially work like a WM08 (the Equinox wireless receiver) but on the GPX 6000. Something that can then simply have any type of earphone, earbud, on ear or over ear headphones attached to it. I specifically wish to plug some Philips Sports earbuds into a Receiver. They sit out of the ear to allow some ambient sound in so you are aware of surroundings. And don't sit inside your ear like a proper ear bud that can get all sweaty and yuck. I've used the Philips before and they are perfect for me. The supplied Minelab GPX 6000 headphones work great - but I'm not keen on headphones as they are hot and they make it difficult to wear a broad brimmed hat. I do recognise there are other hat options. The non Bluetooth options: The Quest kit is great ( http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/quest-wirefree-mate-kit/ ) and although I know they work really well, they definitely only pair with each other and I do not want to attach a Transmit unit to the GPX 6000 - possibility of EMI, an extra thing to get knocked off, an extra thing to charge and the functionality of a Bluetooth LL Transmitter is already in the GPX so why not use it!! ? The Minelab Pro Sonic is too expensive and would need a Transmitter attached to the detector. The Garrett Z-Link - would also need a Transmitter attached to the detector. Bluetooth APTX Low Latency options: I have ordered the Avantree AS70 as it said they were due for release at the start of June. But since ordering (4 days ago) that has been changed to the end of July ? https://avantree.com/au/as70-bluetooth-adapter-for-headphones They are the latest version of the Clipper Pro previously mentioned on DP as having worked well. The Clipper Pro seems completely unavailable now. I like the look of the AS70 and Clipper Pro as they have a good clip that will attach to a shirt, collar, harness or whatever. There are these https://avantree.com/au/lock-bluetooth-transmitter-receiver-set but they are a pair and I wonder if the Receive unit will work directly with the GPX or will it only pair with the Transmit unit (it does say auto pairing with each other in the write up). Chase Goldman had previously mentioned these as working well: TaoTronics 65ft Bluetooth Transmitter/Receive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BMT9BY TROND Bluetooth V5.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B4W40VC/ Newer version here https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Indicator-Simultaneously-dp-B01K8ANDCI/dp/B01K8ANDCI/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I notice the TaoTronics is currently unavailable on Amazon. At this stage I may get one of the newer Trond units as that will at least be a back up for my upcoming big trip and may end up being my main unit if the Avantree does not turn up in time. There are a few others mentioned on this site http://www.aptx.com/ but some look el-cheapo, some are no longer made (the site is not kept up to date in that regard), none of them have a clip to attach to clothing and I am unsure if any of them actually pair with a Vanguish/Equinox/GPX6. Anything that pairs and works well in Low Latency with the Equinox/Vanquish should work well with the GPX 6000. Would be even happier if my Equinox WM08 just hooked up (shame on you Minelab ?) So my questions, finally! What other brands have worked for people? Is the audio quality good? Manufacturing quality good? Somewhat weatherproof? Is the Low Latency good? Have they paired easily with no issues? What sort of time frame are the batteries lasting for most people? Hoping you good people can share some 1st hand experiences - good or bad - and this can be a one stop resource for others searching for a similar device. Cheers, N.E. ?
phrunt
Whatever you do don't bother with a ProSonic, I bought one for one of my GPX's recently. The first one arrived with the decal upside down so all the lights and buttons didn't line up, power was the volume button and volume was power and the lights were under the logo instead of in the clear circles for the lights to shine through the decal, so I sent it back and received a replacement. The replacement lasted one week before it would no longer turn on or charge. I've since requested and received a refund and given up on that product, the price is far too high for what it is and it's latency. It's outdated yet they sell it at a price as if it was the latest equipment on the market. Here is my first attempt at one. While it did work I wasn't overly impressed with the latency of it either with a noticeable delay. I was much happier with the Quest Wirefree Mate on my other GPX. 3
AussieMatt
I've used a pair of these on the SDC2300 previously & they worked well. https://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/epages/shop.mobile/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/gadgets4geeks/Products/BTTC-200L-TTN&Locale=en_AU Pretty sure JP is using one OK with the GPX6000? I've used one of these before too but as tx to Aptx LL headphones & it worked well but the function buttons are really sensitive so it needs to be placed where it can't be inadvertently bumped/rubbed etc. https://avantree.com/au/tc417-bluetooth-transmitter-receiver
F350Platinum
I use this transmitter/receiver with another device: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B4W40VC Along with the TronD headphones which also work standalone with the Equinox. Battery life is about 5-8 hours as I recall, it's small and light, easy to affix with Velcro. It will work with the right adapters, but for the Equinox its not necessary. I've been looking for Aptx-LL earbuds for ya but the pickin's are slim. Got a pair of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07Y4NDPGY But they are no longer available. They work ok, just not as good as the BT-80 headphones I use. Got them for the over-ear hooks and used them in Savannah. Not bad. The trick with pairing is patience. I have had it take up to two minutes to pair headphones of any kind with the Equinox after a system reset to clean out the Bluetooth memory, after that they paired instantly. Yes, it's from the NZ Minelab dealer and both attempts to get one have gone to Minelab for RMA. I assure you it's not a fake ? I couldn't' believe it myself they'd ship them upside down with absolutely no quality control. 2
Gold Catcher
That is absolutely shocking!
Gold Catcher
Hopefully not a sign of what is currently going under the hood at ML. These things are extremely damaging.
phrunt
I doubt it, it was probably some persons first day on the job and with English not being their spoken language in Malaysia they probably didn't even know it was upside down, or perhaps just a moment on inattention. What puzzles me is it comes in a fancy display type box and the person who packaged it into the box didn't even notice it was upside down which is why I see no quality control taking place. Either way, after getting two faulty ones in a row within a couple of week period (most of the time it was with shipping back and forward to the dealer) I gave up on it. I had the one that completely died after a week so I had it long enough to realise the product isn't viable now with better faster options available anyway so I was not all that upset when it died and I had to send it back for a refund. They paid the return shipping both times, where I lost out was paying the original shipping, they didn't include shipping with the refund. At the moment I'm searching for a similar solution myself, the ProSonic would have been perfect for me had it been better quality and lower latency. I wanted it for the external speaker with a fast small transmitter with long battery life. Basically an aftermarket ProSonic is what I am looking for so I should be able to find a low latency transmitter and then I need to find a suitable belt mount Bluetooth speaker with good volume and dust/water resistance and an audio output for headphones to plug in for the odd occasion that maybe necessary.
Gold Catcher
Sorry to hear that you had so many issues with it. I bought my prosonic about two years ago for my SDC and it's still working fine. You should keep the one with the label upside down, it might be a collector's item one day ? 2
