To be honest I don't care to spend over $300.00 on the M8. I may not get one right off the bat. I don't use small coils that often. If I find I need a small coil I'll just use my 800 with the Coiltek 10"x5" for the time being.

I'm in exactly the same boat! I spend the majority of my time on the beach so I will be jumping on the 15" for my Manticore for that but I have the Coiltek 5"x10" sorta permanent like on my Nox800 for when I want to hit an urban park or something similar.

In my case it has genuinely caused me to give up on getting a Manticore. I was on the edge about getting one but with no coil options I kept putting it off. Now I just don't care anymore and given that I use a PI 90% of the time anyway I have decided I'll just stick with my old tried and true Equinox and the full coil set I have for it.

Probably the right decision, Hard to beat a trusty old model Equinox, at least for me, know it like the back of my hand, entirely comfortable speaking it's language and it does what I need it to do very well.

They're in a stage of pumping out as much new product as they can to overwhelm the competitors it seems, new detector models galore and even a pin pointer yet won't provide coils to the suckers that already bought one of these new products, namely their nearest thing to a flagship VLF since the CTX.  New models always create a buzz and generate sales, well possibly except a certain pinpointer.   I'd rather they just let someone else make coils for it seeing they can't be bothered, just let Coiltek start right away, I'll just buy theirs instead and they'll work hard as they do to get the coils to market quickly.

And to top it off from Day 1 the website has never mentioned these coils are not available, in fact it acts as if they are available and just has a where to buy button to click on that takes you to the dealers list, so dealers will be fielding calls and emails all the time about wanting to buy these coils, and Minelab are happy for this to happen for many months as its the dealers dealing with it, not them.  I hope dealers' response to customers is more honest than Minelab's marketing department and they're not taking people's money with no known release date.

With this new method they're trying to do more often of selling direct to customers we'll see how long this attitude lasts when they're paying the staff to endlessly explain to customers with the same old, "Sorry this product is not available and we don't know when it will be" line.

Trying to decipher Minelab's marketing and sales/distribution thinking seems to be a hopeless exercise.  I often resort to the conclusion that some people's brains don't work the way mine does.

I assume we in the USA still don't know the pricing for the promised two aftermarket coils, and in reality it's somewhat irrelevant until they are actually available.  The exception (as some here have voiced) is that when it comes to choosing a detector, if optional coil availability goes into the decision the current Manticore situation (now that Minelab finally has serious competition) can cost them sales.  (Do they care?  See my first paragraph above.)

I can see the big wigs sitting around in a board room gloating their customers are desperate to buy their Manticore coils and thinking how great it is for their customers to be desperate to buy their products.  Little do they realize it's never a good decision to annoy the hell out of your customers when the competitors are biting at their heels, they're not overly used to having competition so they don't know just how damaging having upset customers can be, in the past we all had to put up with their shenanigans. When they were the clear winner with no real competition they didn't need to care, now they do, they need to care a lot as once a customer has moved onto another brand it's hard to get them back.

With that policy they are losing sales. My case is a clear example. The cue for the Manticore happened to be an X Terra Pro (I handed over the money from the reserve with the famous announcement from last Christmas and in February I got tired of waiting). And I doubt I'd buy one.

Just seeing the results makes me think very, very much...

There is a thread on the Xterra forum asking about the coils...

They are not there and they are not expected. What a mess.

In the end I'll stick with my old Nox and the backup Xterra Pro.

Thinking of giving myself a Deus 2 or maybe a Quest V80 this coming Christmas.

Another loyal customer they lose, they'll know.

Maybe they make more money by licensing other manufacturers to make the coils, instead of them having to tool up, invest in R&D, and have defective returned coils to pay for. Let someone else do the work and take some fees for letting them do it. They may be happy with just 3 of their coils to make and profit from, even though they are not available all at once.
