Can Anyone Help Me Identify This Side Hammer Musket?

Recommended Posts

Found this today along with a flat button and a fired Colt pistol bullet. I'm having trouble identifying it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure what that is but if its percussion or flint it just doesn't make sense. The lock is not how they are constructed, never seen one with a tang that fits into the stock like that.

I know what you mean I've never seen anything close to it but it has a real percussion cap nipple so I don't believe it would be a cap gun or kids toy I've got it in electrolysis now maybe that will reveal some more detail

Mystery solved it is a civil war era Smith carbine!

Thanks for that, I never saw a  percussion gun in that form. Thinking it has to be kinda rare. Nice find for sure

Nice find and some good research to identify it.

Good luck on your next hunt.
