Steve, thanks for the link. I enjoy seeing what others find with their detectors. Chris, although a lot of those finds may not be worth a lot in cold hard cash, I would venture a guess each item is loved by the finder. Some things in life you can not put a price tag on.

When I used to be a gold dredger I had a sheet of paper that I kept in the same container as my dredge permit. This paper was a "Challenge Procedure". If you encountered a LEO that was trying to enforce his own political idealism instead of the laws enacted by Congress, you were to say " I refuse to say anything further until you read and sign this document". The document, although close to a page long, basically said " if you falsely arrest me I am going after your bond". Most LEO's are required to be bonded to hold their job. So if you prevail in a claim against their bond they may have difficulty obtaining another bond ergo bye-bye employment. The claim was most LEO"s would read it then walk away, not willing to take any risk with their job. Thankfully, I never had to use the document. In the intervening years I am afraid I have misplaced whatever copies I once possessed. Internet searches have turned up nothing, including the "Wayback Machine". I believe I originally got the document from 49er Mikes Dredging Forum, which is now defunct and mostly lost. This could be an erroneous memory though as this all transpired some time ago. Does anybody remember this? Does any one have a copy?

After using the wireless headphones on the Deus for over a year now I must admit to being spoiled. IMO the Deus wireless is the standard other companies should aspire to. That being said, I have used my Sun Ray Pro Golds on my Racer the little I have used it and the cord irritates me now. I just don't have enough time on the Racer to know if I will love the machine enough to feel like popping for wireless phones. Steve, do you have the elliptical 5x10 coil? If so what is your opinion?

Fred, that sounds eerily similar to a problem I had with a Sat. phone. I was working on an deep sea tugboat when our satphone quit working. Every time we came in to port we would work on this problem. After two months we finally figured out is was not an equipment malfunction but a glitch in billing so the sat phone company suspended service with no notification. Because some desk jockey in the company office was the account administrator not the tug crew we had a hell of a problem figuring that one out.

Tom, I have no idea about insurance. I was under the impression you only have to pay if you activate a search when you did not need to. That is only my impression and it may be wildly inaccurate. If you are concerned about post activation responsibilities, a few minutes on the net should provide you some answers.

AJR and Wes, I don't blame you for being skeptical per a 406 EPIRB reception in canyon areas. Do I have personal knowledge that they work great every where but underground? No I do not. Did I do research before spending my dollars on an EPIRB? That's a big yes. Most things in life don't work at 100% efficiency 100% of the time. My research tells me that in a life and death situation the 406 EPIRB offers the best chance of me being able to contact emergency services. I am not trying to start a pissing match with SPOT owners but 5 years ago when I did my research, the internet was rife with complaints of poor to no reception in many places by spot owners. I could not find one instance of some one setting off their 406 EPIRB and emergency help not arriving. Do some research yourself, your mileage may vary, after all mine is 5 years stale. The other advantage of an EPIRB is no monthly subscription fee. Once you buy it all you pay for is battery replacement ( every 5 years on my model). Of course you can not chat up your family and friends with one, that honor belongs to the SPOT. Whatever option you decide on make sure you take it with you, doesn't work if setting on your work bench at home. Mine lives permanently in my prospecting back pack. I convinced my brother to get one and he used the holster to mount it on his suspenders. Merton

Dude, if you are dead or maimed for life money won't mean crap. If dead you will never see your loved ones again or if only maimed you will be a burden on them for the remainder of your days! LOL-NOT! With the risks most of us take as prospectors I am surprised in this modern world that use of 406 EPIRBs has not caught on like wildfire. I think it is an ostrich syndrome(head in sand) or people always think bad things only happen to other people. Spend 5 minutes and think about the risks you take, the bad things that could happen, what life may be like in the aftermath and I think you will agree the 5 minutes and $260 was some of the best time and money you ever spent. Please come home safe, Merton p.s. if you think VA nurse Paul may perform mouth to mouth use your last round on yourself. LOL

Will, welcome to the forum. I regret to say I did not contact XP about the Goldfields proram. My job, my kids, something distracted me and I never did get back to the task at hand. I did call XP Americas this a.m. but the man in the know is gone today. When I get an answer or some sort of resolution I will post the outcome. How does your Deus run in Goldfield program and how hot is your soil?

Steve, if things work out I will be able to use my new Racer in the pocket gold country of S. Oregon later this month. If I do I will file a report(hopefully about all the nuggets I have found with it)good or bad. Scott, I am so glad I did not have to leave my fifth wheel down there. When I had the Deus in NV I could calm it down but it was still warbly? Every where I have used it in CA it has been noisy, the ground I have been hunting recently is hot stuff, dang near pegs the Fe meter. I think when the holiday weekend is over I will call Detector Electronics and ask about a tune-up. It ain't going in until my Racer arrives though.
