  1. I had thought of doing the same Steve - just off a ring on the backpack strap. I assumed it would sort of pull the back pack to one side though and be uncomfortable. Not the case? 60 years young Steve
  2. Just found it too hot and cumbersome. It certainly works to alleviate the weight but not my cup of tea I can see that you like white and Reg likes black. I think I’m settling on a shade of grey If we get enough opinions we could end up with about 50 shades I reckon
  3. Give Give me a V8 commodore and free range of Mt Panorama at Bathurst and I’ll do as much gratis testing as Holden would allow I think it is not that people would not test things for other industries for free, it is that they aren’t given the opportunity.
  4. Reg, I think we all agree that the GPZ in the body of an Equinox would be great. And recently I have even danced with the idea of selling the Z whilst it still has warranty and getting a QED and the Equinox. Light machines covering a pretty good range of situations. But I just couldn’t sell the Z - I would forever wonder what I was missing. Unfortunately for those that want to use the Z it means using no suspension aids and ending up with orthopaedic issues or using some sort of aid and being ‘hampered’. I use the swing arm and when on flatter ground have been using the hip stick since Christmas. To be honest I don’t find these much of an issue but yes, I would prefer not to have to use any of it. The hip stick is certainly a mile in front of the bloody Minelab harness the Z comes. It is what it is
  5. You’d be most welcome Chuck. I’ll hold the lead rope whilst you saddle the ‘roo
  6. The Americans brought horses to Australia and tried to get us to adapt but we already had the kangaroo. Faster with a better leap and built in pockets. And, when the Aussie lasses calve down they don’t head for the house until sundown - always got a lady roo about the place and just drop the little one in its pouch Colour TV!! I have heard of this but thought it was a myth. Mains electricity is still 12 months from being connected
  7. Hi raildawg. Congrats on the Z purchase. If you can use the harness or hip stick or some sort of bungy system that will help a lot with fatigue and also coil control. Settings. Yes default is a good place to start. If you think there may be some bigger bits (>5 grams) general/difficult can be a good combo. If you use an audio booster it is worth turning the volume on the Z down as it can make it run smoother. As with previous detectors you have probably owned turn the sensitivity up 1 notch until it is unstable and then turn it back 1. This should get you above the default range and being 4 or 5 notches above default can make quite a difference - especially to the tiny nuggets. Or you can have a look at Steve’s Insanely Hot settings if you dare They aren’t for everyone or every location but max sensitivity for a short period to clean up a little area can make the world of difference. Use the GPZ 7000 tag on this forum and go back and look at ALL the posts by Steve and JP. JPs advice on ground balancing, ferrite balancing, conservative settings, etc are invaluable. Even put together your own cut and paste manual of their words. I’ve done just that and reference it quite often. Much of the knowledge I have beyond the instruction manual is that which JP, Steve and others on this forum have so kindly and freely provided. The Z is actually fairly straight forward re: settings but there are plenty of little adjustments that can make or break a session depending on your ground, gold, emi, etc. And, I almost forgot, I would use normal ground mode as much as possible if your ground/hot rocks allow. Normal definitely opens up more targets for you than difficult. Hope that’s useful and hope you get amongst some yella. Have fun
  8. Agree ++++++. Use the guide arm every time I use the Z. Helps with control, reduces fatigue. The little crinkly bit of hard plastic near the lower end can be a bit weak if you accidentally catch the guide arm on something and it bends the wrong way. Found out the hard way
  9. If a train leaves Paddington Station at 0900 hrs with 15 people, travelling at 45 mph, with a full tank of diesel and the rain starts at 0930 hrs from an easterly direction. How long will it be ‘til I give up calculating anything and just go detecting Your analogy is good Steve. I’ll be honest and say I really didn’t understand what recovery speed was all about until I read this. So, as I seem to write most days, thanks
  10. Hi Mutheba. Kenya - cool Have you tried doing a full reset to factory settings? Worth doing this to return all threshold, volume settings to default. Does the WM 12 show that it is paired with the solid green light rather than the blinking red one? Perhaps remove the headphone module, make sure the contact points are all clean, etc and then replace. The coil may be disconnected. Disassemble and check all the connections from coil to control box are secure. There has also been an issue reported by many people when changing between gold or ground modes but this has been sorted by simply turning the machine off and on again. Is it still under warranty? Do you have a manual with you or can access one online? Page 61 has some suggestions too. When you get all of this sorted we will need to see some pictures of your Kenyan gold
  11. Welcome to the forum goldgeek. Unfortunately there is no detector that will ONLY detect gold. There are detectors that will help to discriminate between ferrous and non-ferrous but even these are not 100% accurate. Generally these are VLF detectors (have a look at the Minelab Equinox Fan Club sub-forum of Steve's for a fairly recent addition to this group of detectors). There are some Pulse Induction machines that have discrimination also. I have never used one but I gather that they are a long way from being 100% accurate. That sort of makes the rest of your questions moot. However, yes the PI and ZVT machines can locate gold at depth = 1-2 metres on really decent size pieces. Yes, many detectors are waterproof - some to >100 metres. Sorry to burst your bubble but hope that answers your questions
  12. I think you are onto it Strick. The hole isn't too deep - I think many detectors would hear that nugget at that depth. But it is very wide. Shifted a lot of dirt to locate that small target that should have been reasonably easy to pinpoint. At some point Gerry may relieve us of this suspense
  13. Hi Mutheba. A little more info is needed mate. Is this a new machine? Have you used it before? Have you paired the WM12 wireless module? Has it worked previously? Is the WM12 fully charged? You do know the GPZ does not have a speaker of its own? It has to use the WM12 or headphones connected directly to it. Sorry if I'm asking what seem like dumb questions but often it's often a simple fix. Where are you located? Do you have a dealer nearby that may be able to have a look?
  14. Nobody's wearing appropriate sun protection. The lady is doing all the digging. But I'm with Fred really, I have no idea.
  15. Maaaaaaate!!! That's a ripper Lunk. Very happy for you
  16. You and your logic Mr Hershbach - such a kill joy I understand where you are coming from - changing the length of an exhaust pipe changes the way an engine breathes - maybe it would make a difference to the Z. This has been done with many of the GP and GPX series when used on drag coils - unit on the vehicle and long cable to the dragged coil. Were there any changes/mods required to the unit or the type of cable used to allow for this. Reg Wilson might be able to comment on that last bit? I also suppose it is not just a matter of getting the right connectors, a cable and giving it a go - it is knowing what the cable consists of. I am not technically minded - do all/some/most cable innards consist of different materials or are they all essentially the same? Probably not high on Minelab's list of things to work on/respond to but would be interesting.
  17. mlgdave - great question. I tried to like it but I'm out of likes Be perfect for when the little coil comes out (). OR, even more exciting, put the unit in the backpack, the WM12 on the shoulder and the small coil on the shaft of your choice - hey presto - super light weight GPZ!!!
  18. Well...that's truly sad for you in the U.S. I'm a bit bewildered by it to be honest. I imagine that Toyota would love to get this product into a market of 323,000,000 people. So, I assume they are not allowed to enter the market due to trade restrictions? To protect American vehicle manufacturers? (And I apologise GB_Amateur - this is way off topic to the premise of the thread).
