GPZ 7000 Audio Problems After Latest Update
Northeast replied to mlgdave's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Have you got a Minelab dealer nearby? I'd be taking it back there to see if they can trouble shoot anything and at the very least you can have the support from a dealer that there is actually an issue. If they can see the obvious problem but offer no solution they can box it and send it back to Minelab for you. -
And maybe Australia too Mitchell. The Equinox 800 may be the answer ?

Thanks again Reg, always an interesting read. Also, I have sent you a message - check the little envelope up in the R) hand corner. Cheers.

Finally Got The Wife To Come Along Prospecting With Me
Northeast replied to Jin's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Jin, with the amount of gold you've been finding I'm surprised you haven't had a few wives wanting to head out with you And bread with your tinned soup - that's luxury Seriously though, really nice rig and great that the wife is interested ?? -
Can't say that I've had much of an issue with the GPZ but I'm also in the Godwright age bracket and 6' 3". I did have a short prospect with some older fella's a month or so ago near Bendigo. Approx 62 and 70 years old. The 62 handles the Z ok but has just had a titanium knee put in and that may well end his Z experiment. The 70 uses a hip stick and says he has not a single issue with the Z's weight - but before the hip stick it was almost an unviable proposition. The 70 year old also said he knows an 80 year old lady who has no issues with the GPZ - only because she uses a hip stick. It's on my 'I need to buy one' list.

Equinox 800 Search Modes - Four Detectors In One?
Northeast replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Just wondering if somebody can clarify something for me about the multi-frequency options on the 800. I'm guessing nobody really knows the answer but others with previous models of multi-frquency machines might know. Obviously the machine can run in all 5 frequencies simultaneously. I've got that bit And from what I can glean you can also select just 1 frequency? Yes? What about if I want to select frequency 5 and 40? Or just 20 and 40? Or 5, 20 and 40? Do we think this will be possible on the Equinox or has this been the case on previous multi-frequency detectors? The reason I ask is that I read on here somewhere in the pages and pages of hype that you lose some level of power/ability/ooommph when you are using multi-frequency versus single frequency. So instead of running 5 frequencies on the 800 can I just run 3 freqs (5, 20 and 40), cover most of my bases and get that little bit more oooommph from the machine? Or might it be so insignificant that it is easier to run all 5? Hope that makes sense -
$650 labour for 3 hours work??? $216 an hour. $846 Australian dollars? I'm learnin' to be a grease monkey and movin' to the States y'all!!! Nice work on the gold Mitchel

Question On GPZ Firmware Update
Northeast replied to inthemountains's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Have had the update since soon after it came out. Wouldn't have said it has changed the audio on mine at all. Also can't say that the new settings have made any difference to the particular areas that I work. But that is only a few spots ? Edit: after reading SH's and Lunk's posts below I should clarify mine. With new options turned off my audio sounds the same. With locate patch on, yes it is more chattery. Sorry, should have been more specific ? -
That's an amazing insight Reg. Thanks

Thanks for the inspiration on this RR. Made up my own version today - similar but different. Very easy and about $5.20. Has improved the stability fantastically and does not impede my swing or touch my right side at all. I have left the top of the two legs un-glued so that I can shorten the legs depending on how I find it in the field. Certainly very stable in the shed.

That makes me sad Andyy - you'd best move to Australia

Thanks Peg. Yep Steve, this is my GPZ album. Ridiculously small aren't they?
-
Certainly not my first finds but have been out today and might as well start an album. Especially with these beauties!! Now with a thread name like this you might think it will rival the Reg Wilson album?? Sadly you will be disappointed at present but don't worry as my plan is to start small so the gold in the album can do nothing but get bigger. A cunning stunt if ever I saw one Off an old area where the gold has been washed/rockered/something. Have found quite a few other little bits there but the one to the right of the echidna's nose would have to be the smallest. To give the non-Aussie's an idea the 5 cent piece is our smallest coin and on another Aussie gold forum really small gold is often measured against the nose of the echidna. Amazing to think the 14 inch coil can pick this stuff up. High yield, difficult, sensitivity 15, volume 1, B&Z booster working nicely Retirement.......a long way off at this rate.

A Few Nuggets And Starting To Get Better At Detecting
Northeast replied to Jin's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Congrats Jin. You are having an amazing run -
January - hot. February - hot. March - getting better. WA, NT, SA and Queensland would be pretty unbearable during Jan, Feb (I think). Victoria has its moments. Last summer was reasonably mild but still plenty of days mid 30's and a few in the 40's (Celsius obviously). Reg is in Victoria. 6 weeks in the famous Golden Triangle, a week in South Australia to drop in on minelab and Nenad and then 5 weeks in WA as the weather cools a little You'd get to cross the Nullabor Plain and the longest dead straight section of road in Australia - 150 kms or thereabouts. Most people find the drive to WA boring. I've done it 3 times now - heaps to see if you go looking. Whatever you do, if you end up in Victoria it would be good to catch up and have a beer

Had an outing to Reef Hills State Park near Benalla in northeast Victoria today. My first time there and also met up with prospectingaustralia forum member XIV for the first time. He was interested in learning a bit about the GPZ. He swung the Z and I swung the GM. Lots of lead and rubbish and only 1 bit of yellow - scored by the GM Not great GM ground as it is very mineralized with 4 buzzilion hot rocks. But lowered the sensitivity to 4, all metal mode and it was purring along OK. Not massive but yellow!!

Very nice indeed. When did the saying "low and slow" get invented? Must have not been until the late '90's?? Hard to argue with the results though!

Credit where it is due Trent - nice work

That Little Red Streak, Patchy Flat picture is so reminiscent of the Vic GT goldfields. The thin forest, the type trees, quartz everywhere, trees bringing up the quartz at the base. I'm assuming old mate that runs sheep in the paddock next to the forest got a knock on his door??

Ridge Runner and Cabin Fever - thankyou!! A project for the weekend

Great album JR, keep 'em coming. Someone once said "an inch may as well be a mile" in the detecting game. Might have even been someone on here ?
