  1. Very impressive Lunk, very impressive indeed
  2. Great question Jin. And nice to see you drop by, haven't seen you here for a bit. Maybe you've been lurking And you too JR and geof - haven't seen any other posts for awhile. Interested to hear others answers too. Keep 'em coming.
  3. https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?id=25517 Used one here. Mentions about posting in Australia. Doesn't say he won't post internationally. Would still have a years worth of warranty I think. I have never even seen a GPX but I've seen Reg's QED. Very light and from what I read it is fairly competitive against the GPXs. If you are sending it back to Oz for updates it is only the control unit so not expensive to post. The low price point for a brand new QED almost had me convinced to sell the Z and have 6k left over. But knowing that money would then just be spent on carpet for our house I quickly slapped myself Each to their own but if I was just entering the PI market I'd seriously look at the QED.
  4. Hey Steve, About half way through listening - good show so far but I'm still waiting for the bit about prospecting for gold nuggets You two do get gabbing a bit about detectors. I nearly ran off the road when I heard one particular tid-bit though...the GPZ 7000 HAS the capability to have discrimination built into it at some stage in the future. Are you able to/happy to expand on this? I thought that the prospecting community always just HOPED that this might be a possibility. From what I heard you might know that it should definitely be a possibility in the future? Are we just waiting for tech to catch up? I also understand if it is something you aren't allowed to expand on. Another hour in the car tomorrow will see the last part listened to
  5. In which country are you wanderer? Yes, you can get used PI machines. Just make sure they are not fakes. Always best to try and get one with some warranty left too. Getting a used one though a dealer may also give you some peace of mind that they have checked it over and it is in good working order even if it is out of warranty. If you are in Australia the QED is getting some good reviews and is a very light and relatively inexpensive PI machine. I'm not sure if the QED is available overseas at present or if it ever will be due to the small size of the business. Im sure others on here will be able to help you more re: prices across the many brands. And, of course, check out Steve's Gold Detecting reviews - I doubt there is a more comprehensive review page with pricing included. http://www.detectorprospector.com/gold-prospecting-guides/steve-guide-gold-nugget-detectors.htm
  6. Stephen, there is only 1 model of GPZ 7000 so yes, they can all be updated to the latest software available. The latest update has issues with the storage/transfer of GPS marks though, so a few people have opted to use the prior release software until the GPS issue is fixed.
  7. Struth Ruth!! If your detector goes beep beep pretend you’re a Road Runner
  8. Look forward to it Steve. The previous podcast kept me entertained driving to and from work a few weeks ago. And then I listened to George Kinsey’s as well. Speaker actually has 3 different Metal Detecting shows available on it. I only realized this yesterday. Spending a few hours in the car over the next few days so will be giving them all a bit of a try. Hope your nugget show goes well and they don’t lose your transmission for another 5 minutes
  9. Congrats Ammie. I had just scientifically worked it out as being 205. Apparently a wild stab at it was a better method Nice work RR. PS: You had a newborn at age 47 . That makes me tired just thinking about it
  10. Thanks for the response Nenad. I'll probably never own anything from that line up of detectors but interesting to know and hopefully helps somebody who does/is looking to use them. Thanks again.
  11. ? What is that towel up the back of your head, Fred?
  12. That's a shame Norm. Certainly sounds like something has gone haywire. Page 12 in the manual - yep, FP is Factory Presets. Out of interest, did you try the Factory Reset more than once? Hope it is back soon either fixed or replaced.
  13. I did mention in a post that I was keen to give Old Noxxy a go at the spot later this week. Noxxy has arrived. Had a play in the back yard last night with it and pulled 4 coins that the GM had missed. 1 cent, 2 cent, 20 cent and a 1941 half penny. Terrible condition. Lemon juice hasn't helped much. But it won't be having a go at the clay bank until maybe late Saturday arvo, if at all this weekend. The family have made other plans for me Friday and Saturday and then work on Sunday
  14. That's about $80 an hour in Australia. I'd be happy to work for that Sorry to hear about your uncle
  15. Hi JW. Not Equinox gold unfortunately...or fortunately - I'm not sure :-) These were with the GM 1000. Old Noxxy has arrived today and is on the charge. Have you ever heard that old saying "A watched Nox never charges". Apparently checking the blinking green light every 4 minutes doesn't make it go quicker
  16. Hi Nenad. I don't have a 3500 and am unlikely to ever but one thing stood out in the bit I read above. I often see that Minelab tracking has been heralded as being pretty awesome. Not so with the earlier models such as the 3500? About when did tracking really step up to the plate?
  17. Och ‘aye, thars a wee brill-yunt find thart!
  18. Hi Norvic. Not virgin ground - far from it unfortunately. Just little 'uns that the ancestors missed - or couldn't be bothered with But, there may be a few bits of more decent size as I go a bit deeper. Maybe 1 or 2 over a gram. The Z has been over it so there certainly isn't anything 5 + grams in the top 30-40 cms I don't think. The Equinox later in the week will be interesting over the same spot.
  19. More to the story. I think I am wrong about how much might be left in this clay bank. Brought home 3 buckets of loose stuff that I had already gone over yesterday with the GM 1000, so knew there were no large bits in it. Sieved off a couple of pans worth and panned off the fines. Boy, panning clay is hard. 1st pan nothing. 2nd pan 3 very tiny flakes. Was going to be a veeeery long process for not much return. Plan B I have a large plastic tub for putting in the back of the cruiser to keep it clean. Put it up on 4 logs to get it off the concrete (rio in the concrete would set off the detector). Put a thin spread of material over bottom of the tub and detected with the GM. Kept doing this until all material done. Maybe took an hour to do the 3 buckets. I am amazed, amazed, amazed at how small these pieces of gold are that the GM will ping. Able to run in All Metal, manual 10. Yesterday with the deeper clay base manual 7 was about the limit. Today it was still noisy on a few hot rocks and red clay balls but the gold hit pretty well. Makes the nuglets of yesterday look like monsters!! Think I'll hit the bank with the Equinox later in the week and then depending on the outcome of that decide with which detector to finish pounding the rest of the bank apart. Not my favored size of nuggets but as I move deeper into the bank it might be worthwhile. Nothing ventured, nothing gained
  20. With the Equinox on its way I decided to go over a little area that I had previously got 20-30 very small nuggets from. It is a really red clay bank and I am guessing it was a bit of a wash-up area as there is simply tiny bits all amongst it. I had got all of the surface targets over a year or so with the GPZ, the SDC and more recently the Monster. I was thinking I would check there is nothing left there and then see what the Equinox could do, how it handles the clay, etc. To be honest, I'm not really expecting much considering the size of the coil Vs the 6" coil on the Monster but it will be interesting to see what Multi IQ can do. Well, today I got 1 little piece right at the base of a small tree...and then I got a bit carried away Where I have previously just leveled the top of the patch, today I started busting into it. Knocked off about 3 inches of a 5ft X 5ft area and picked up a further 9 pieces. Boy are some of them SMALL!! Again, the echidna's nose is something to compare really small gold against. I think I am now at the point that I know this whole clay bank is full of this stuff and might need to be processed properly. There is 100 times what I turned over today and there will be plenty that the detector isn't getting. Potential to get 30-40 grams from the whole lot maybe. This lot went .45 of a gram. If anyone asks can the Monster get small gold, show them this
  21. Page 56 of the manual I think old fella. It describes the pairing of the ML80 but suggests that it looks for any blue tooth headphones. Low latency are better. Hope that helps
