  1. I would agree with you if and this is a big if all three detectors are acting the same, the fact is and you most likely missed this my Loaner control pod is working flawlessly running the same settings on the same ground and same targets, the issues I am seeing has nothing to do with EMI, multi frequency or anything else like that, the loaner pod is seeing targets 6-8 inches deeper and on some targets even deeper Trust me I have been in this metal detecting game long enough to know when EMI is affecting my VLF detectors or not You may have missed this also but here it is again prior to installing the 1.11 version on both my detectors I was having no issues at all in fact here is something else you may have missed or just not read, on one of my Legends my one that was originally a 1.04 version Legend I was testing the 1.10 beta test versions again the only one of those three Beta test versions that I had any issues at all was the Beta test version 2, 1.10 Beta test version 3 like I stated I could have asked for nothing more out of a detector it was running fantastic, the 1.10 Beta test versions were the pre cursor to 1.11 and 1.11 should have come out Identical to 1.10 Beta test version 3 but and this is a huge but it did not on either of my Legends, in fact my initial install of 1.11 my Legend that I had done all the testing with of the beta test versions it had a huge depth loss and what I mean by huge depth loss is it would not even see a target unless that target was setting on the surface and the coil was almost touching that target, it went from seeing targets that were 4-14 inches deep in my test bed, to not being able to se a target that was rite on the surface with the coils almost touching the targets, I took it back in and re installed the 1.11 version (my test bed has been in the ground for almost 1.5 years) at the time (and yes i performed a factory default reset) it took me 3 re installs and factory resets before I could finally get that legend too hit a target at 3 inches deep, i have done what I mentioned above and it has not helped at all. I was able to get one of my Legends to start performing again but it was not with 1.11, I had someone that sent me a version 1.80 (which is a version that none of us normal end users had no clue even existed) it was never released to us normal users, I had to use the old update installer to install that 1.80 on my Legend which I choose to install it on my oldest Legend, this 1.80 has all the same features as 1.09, it does not have the BC, or GS features nor does it have the AG feature in gold mode once I installed this 1.80 my issues went away, which I know most would say hey just run with that since it works sorry that is not me I want all the features whether I use them or not, I want them there to have access to all the tools at hand if needed, 1.11 is the current update or version and 1.11 is a good version on some of the Legends.
  2. The issues I am seeing Jeff I do not believe are due to 1.11 version but rather an issue with the way both of my legends accepted the 1.11 update, i also believe those that are having the issues of reported depth loss is not due to the 1.11 version update, I have my reasons for stating this which I have relayed to you in a PM, but I will post some of it here i acquired what I call a new version Legend control pod, which is a control pod that has only ever had 1.11 version in it, it came from the factory with 1.11 already installed and 1.11 is the only version that has ever been in this particular control pod. I also do not believe this is an issue with all legends but just some of the first and possibly second runs of the Legends in other words the ones that came with 1.04 and 1.05, the older Units, and not even all of the first Legends just some of the first production runs of Legends. in my comparisons between my older Legends and this new version control pod I am seeing a huge depth difference between the three units and when I say a huge depth difference i am talking anywhere from 6-8 inches of difference in depth between this new control pod and my two older Legends, my first Legend was originally a 1.04 version from the very first batch that hit the U.S my second Legend was originally a 1.05 version Legend, on the same targets and same ground all settings equal in A (All Metal) mode, I am seeing a huge depth difference of anywhere from 6-8 inches both of my Legends were working fantastic, yes I had a few issues with update installs but mainly due to the very first installer tool (which many of us had issues with that installer tool), when I ran the three beta test versions 1.10 beta test version 1,2, and 3 i only had issues with beta test version 2, Beta Test version 3 I only installed on my first legend I purchased, I could not have ask for a detector to perform any better than that detector performed so when 1.11 came out I installed it with out hesitation and with out any issues other than one which did concern me, after I installed the 1.11 was when I started seeing all the issues the one concern I had and still to this day concerns me is how 1.11 ended up in my PC, it just magically appeared out of the blue without me having to go to Nokta's site and download it, it was just there, which has always bothered me, because all the past updates we all had to go to nokta site, download what ever update was new at the time and then Extract the files and install on our Legends, but this was not the case with 1.11 also all the past updates in the instructions was to shut down firewalls and anti virus protections this was also not the case with 1.11, like I stated 1.11 just miraculously appeared in my PC on the updater tool without having to do anything, this has never sat well with me and I am not sure had the update not ended up on my PC the way it did if I would have seen any of the issues I have seen since installing the 1.11 version I am compiling some video comparisons that I will be sending to Nokta showing this but the videos are going slow because I have been having some back issues with some of my lower back Disc on my right lower back so I can only do as much as I can until my back says to stop, I ended up in the hospital because of this shortly after receiving this new control pod and yes it was sent to me with no charge from Andy at we Dig, it is taking me a bit to do the videos but I am slowly getting them together
  3. I have been pondering whether to pick up the 16x14 Mono or the 13x11 Mono ever since I purchased my Axiom and I have decided to go with the 16x14 Mono was able to check out a friends Axiom with the 16x14 mono mounted I was very surprised at just how lite the Axiom is with the 16x14 Mono, for me personally it did not feel any heavier or any more unbalanced than the other three coils I already have, which is the 11x7 Mono and DD and 13x11 DD, it was very comfortable for me, I may also eventually purchase the 13x11 Mono also but for now I will just go with 4 coils the 11x7 mono and DD, the 13x11 DD and the 16x14 Mono. According to some one at Garrett that I spoke to on the phone you can purchase the 13x11 Mono from Garrett Direct but so far every time I have checked the Garrett site there is no way to add the 13x11 Mono to your cart to purchase I am also keeping an eye out on these X Coils for when they become available for sale, and will most likely purchase an X Coil when they do become available for sale, but for now I will be content with the four coils I have decided on
  4. Well I was going to give you a link to two of the ones that I have been using and have worked really good but they are no longer available on amazon, SORRY The Avantree Torus work fantastic and have worked fantastic with every detector I have used them with. Steve also recommended a transmitter
  5. Has anyone tried using a different set of headphones with a wireless transmitter with the Axiom ??? Being in Arizona and the areas I am detecting, I like to stay aware of whats going on around me, there is always the possibility of stepping on a rattle snake or running into a bear or mountain lion, or even a large herd of javalina, which is just a few of the reasons I do not like using over the ear headphones, so I used one of my wireless transmitters with the Axiom today and connected my Avantree Torus neckband speaker to the transmitter which they actually worked great, i had to turn the volume way down on the Axiom as well as turning the volume down on the Avantree Torus to keep the volume from being way to loud. I started out with the Mono Coil on the Axiom and then realized that the Iron Check does not work with the Mono Coils, and the axiom will tell you in a hurry with this annoying sound that sounds like a telephone ringer that tells you (Hey Stupid You Have the wrong coil attached to the Axiom for the Iron Check Feature to work) then it dawned on me to swap over to the one of the DDs, I had not tried the Iron Check feature yet while using headphones so not sure its the same with the supplied wireless headphones or not (referring to that telephone ringer) but it was with the Avantree Torus, I had tried the iron check feature without headphones and the DD Coil but not with headphones and the incorrect coil attached until today, other than that telephone ringer I got while using the 11x7 Mono the Avantree Torus worked great with the Axiom and allowed me to stay aware of what my wife was doing, as well as what was going on around me, I do have a few other wireless bone conduction headphones that I will also be trying out with the wireless transmitter on the Axiom but every wireless headphone I have tried I end up going back to the Avantree Torus, simply because they are an outstanding product that just works, all the other wireless headphones I have tried with various detectors one of the main issues is not enough volume level, not really sure this would be an issue with the Axiom, every other detector I have tried using different headphones on were limited by the amount of volume control on each detector I used them with but with the amount of volume control you have with the Axiom it may just be a case that all my wireless bone conduction headphones will work with the axiom. I really like the Avantree Torus and use them with every detector I have some have built in Bluetooth capabilities, and others Like the Garrett GM 24K I use a wireless transmitter to go wireless also, the wireless transmitter I used with the Axiom i did not notice any kind of interference at all I attached the transmitter across the top above the charging port at the back of the arm cuff using a strip of sticky back Velcro on the Axiom and the other side of the Velcro which is also sticky backed on the bottom of wireless transmitter, this makes it very easy to remove the transmitter if I need or want to the supplied headphones that come with the Axiom are ok and work good but again being in Arizona they are just to hot, and restrict your ability to know what is going on around you, winter may be a different story
  6. Welcome on board Read previous reply LOL
  7. Welcome on board you have ventured into a house of trouble makers, so you will fit rite in, you came to the best Forum on the Net. whoops wrong person, see I am already causing trouble
  8. I have never detected for Meteors so I have no clue, all I can do is report what I observed with the three detector's I tried, I always had the impression a meteor would give a iron tone if you swung over one but these only gave a tone like you would expect a nugget to give it kind of surprised me, what I observed, my Garrett 24K was the most surprising to me and the fact the Axiom Iron Check said there was no Iron in either Meteor he brought with him, it was really eye opening, I did set down and started reading about space rocks and according to what I read some of them contain no iron in them what was even more puzzling even though the Axiom Iron Check said there was no Iron in them both were attracted to a magnet which is very odd to me.
  9. for anyone wandering what a good detector would be for seeing meteors A friend of mine has several meteors that have been verified as being space rocks, some he has are pretty good size, being inquisitive i asked him to bring over a couple so I could test how they would respond and sound on a detector since I personally have not found a meteor myself and having the inquisitive mind that I do he accommodated my request, surprisingly the detector that gave the best response to the ones my friend brought over was not what I was expecting, since I have several detectors I tested a few of the detectors I own. started out with one of the Legends I have, the Legend would not give a good response in any mode except the gold mode, I tried using every mode in the Legend and every Multi, and single frequencies while in All Metal which is the way I detect 99% of the time I use no discrimination at all, in all modes other than gold mode I could not get the legend to give a response, but in gold mode the response was there but a very low quiet rise in the threshold, it was a sound that had I been searching for nuggets at the time I might have stopped and done some investigation maybe, it was just a slight little rise in the threshold in gold mode this was kind of surprising to me The second detector I tested on the Meteors my friend brought over was the Axiom I started out with the 11x7 DD and then switched to the 11x7 Mono, after ground balancing and doing a frequency shift I started out with my settings in Fine, Slow, threshold at -5 sensitivity at 3 and volume at 15, after setting everything up in the Axiom I first did a Iron check over a nail which you could plainly tell the nail was a iron target (a do not dig me target), so then I proceeded to swing over the Meteors while using the Iron Check and this is where the response from the Iron check surprised me there was absolutely no Iron response on those meteors at all it gave a good clean sound that I would have stopped and dug, after performing the Iron Check with the Axiom I proceeded to swing over the meteors as though I was actually detecting, this again was where the Axiom surprised me completely it gave a response all be it a very low response, with the settings I had set but it was a very low, audible high low response like it was a very small nugget, Increased the sensitivity in the Axiom to 4 which did seem to increase the response a little more, I also increased the Threshold up to 5 which seemed to also have a better response by making the Meteors a little more audible when I swung over them. The third Detector I tried was My Garrett 24K, with the 6 inch round coil, this is the detector that really surprised me completely for anyone that does not know the Garrett 24K is a 48 KHz single frequency gold detector, yes it will see other targets like coins and other things but in my mind it was designed for the specific intent of hunting gold nuggets, at least that is what I use it for, anyhow I ground Balanced the 24K set the threshold to where I could barely hear it without headphones, set the volume to boost 2 and proceeded to swing over the meteors my friend had brought over, the 24K had a surprisingly loud dig me response to those meteors, that would have stopped anyone in their tracks the one thing that really surprised me was when swinging over those meteors with the Iron Check on the Axiom is the iron Check indicated there was no Iron in those meteors, I was always under the impression that meteors contained Iron but not these, the Meteors my friend has was verified as being actual space rocks the other thing that really surprised me was just how good of a dig me response the Garrett 24K gave on those space rocks, personally speaking if I was going to go out with the soul purpose of detecting meteors the Garrett 24K is the detector I would grab for the task, had I been a betting man I would have bet the Axiom would have been the detector that seen those space rocks the best but man was I surprised. By doing these test what it clearly confirmed in my mind is it is not always the most expensive, or the detector with the most settings like Multi frequency and things like that, that can make you finds, its choosing the rite detector for the task at hand. The one thing to keep in mind is while I was performing this test I did not use headphones with any of the detectors, had I been using headphones there is a high possibility that all the detectors I used to do this test those targets most likely would have been heard better.
  10. tractor supply carries a good supply of rubber washers and plastic bolts could probably find some there that would work, I also have some spare rubber washers from various detectors that might work if I need them, hope I do not have to find out at some point LOL
  11. Yep I am finding Garrett has some fantastic customer service, I do not think they would send me a set just to have spares but I am hoping at some point they start producing some parts for the axiom like the Lower shaft and spare coil bolts and washers, I just like having spares around if I need them, the lower shafts I listed my reasoning, I am planning on picking up some different coils when they become available so I will pick up 3-4 extra lower shafts and coil bolts and washers if and when they become available for purchase, really interested in those X Coils when that becomes available also and if detect comes out with some after market coils, I just hope those X Coils are not as expensive as the ones I seen on their website though for some of the Mine Labs LOL $1700 is a lot of $$$$ for a coil almost half the cost of what I and others paid for their Axiom's Only having two of those Rubber washers, I guard them like they are a piece of Gold LOL
  12. Just curious I would Like to pick up like three or four extra Lower Shafts and coil bolts, plus the rubber washers that go on the lower shaft for the Axiom Will Garrett eventually start producing extra Lower Rods and coil bolts for the Axiom that can be Purchased ??? I like having extra lower shafts and coil bolts to make it a bit easier when I want to swap out to a different coil, just mount your extra coils on to Lower rods and then its a matter of just swapping out the lower rod with coil already attached, I do wish Garrett would have supplied a coil bolt and the rubber washers with each coil, but its not a deal breaker but it would have been nice to have a spare coil bolt at the very least just curious if this will eventually happen
  13. Watched that video a couple nights ago, and its still fun to watch the reaction of the guy that found that chunk thanks for posting it up
  14. when I was out yesterday I was thinking how I would Like to try a 6 or 8 inch round coil just to see how one would work on the Axiom, may have to pick up this 8 inch X Coil when it comes out, I am happy with the 3 coils I have rite now but I like to have options for my detectors, so this 8 inch X Coil is just another option, I am also thinking about the 16x14 Mono coil for my Axiom also that is currently available from Garrett. So if I understand this X Coil will allow for the use of the Iron Check on the Axiom then ??? Thanks Steve interesting design, will be keeping my eyes open for when these actually do come out
  15. Can someone explain what makes the X Coils so good, and what does DOD stand for ?? just trying to learn since I am new to the Axiom
  16. One thing I wanted to add to this my testing was done without using the supplied wireless headphones, and the volume at which I was hearing the targets I dug was extremely loud at volume 25 and even with the volume at 14 or 15 setting the targets were very loud I did drop my sensitivity even further down to 1 and swung over the targets just to test what would happen, and they were still very audible to where you could tell there was a target under the coil the two targets I stated were the first two I dug and they were wild unplanted targets below is the two small trash bits i dug
  17. I am new to the Axiom also in fact new to using a high end PI, I purchased the same kit you have been testing which came with the 13x11 DD and 11x7 Mono but I also picked up the 11x7 DD also, just got back in 10 minutes ago from an area, these DD Focused core coils that Garrett has for the Axiom are no joke they are deep and just as sensitive as the Mono in my opinion, (I am Loving the Axiom) I was out for about 3 hours in an area just doing some getting acquainted with the Axiom test, I started out with the 11x7 Mono which had no issues with EMI or the ground I was on at all my GB numbers were 62 and 25 a couple pumps of the ground balance and it was quite, didn't even have to perform a frequency scan in fact it was so quite i completely forgot about my Axiom having a frequency scan LOL, had my settings at Fine, Slow and started out with my sensitivity at the factory preset of 4, threshold at -6 and started out with the volume at 25 my axiom was pretty much running quite so I started swinging over the ground i was on I got over a target that said dig me (trash target small bit of copper) about 1/8 inch wide by about 3/4 of an inch long it was down about 8 inches but what caught my attention was how loud and pronounced the target was when I swung over I ended up dropping my volume down to 14 so targets were not so booming to the ears with my hearing aids, I swapped out coils to the 11x7 DD just before I dug that Target and the 11x7 DD was pretty much the same as the 11x7 Mono except the pin pointing was different on the DD where the Mono pin points to the Edges of the coil. The second target I got over I started out with the 11x7 DD and then swapped out to the 11x7 Mono after I located the target with the DD, my second target again was a booming dig me target that when I swung over it with both the 11x7 DD And 11x7 Mono there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that it was a piece of metal of some sort, the question was what type of metal, my second target was a small flat piece of rusted tin that was about the diameter of a sharpie pen cover maybe just a little smaller, it again was down about 8 inches. The Axiom has amazing sensitivity to small bits and when you get over a target there is no doubt it is a target, it just may not be that illusive yellow stuff we are all in search of, i never even thought about trying the Iron Check feature while I had the DD coil mounted, but will at some point I will also say that there is no doubt in my mind after a short period of testing and getting to know the Axiom that it will have no issues with finding gold nuggets and bits, no matter which coil one chooses to use, I did not give the 13x11 DD a try but based on what I seen with the 11x7 DD and Mono coils I really do not know if I want to dig as deep as I think the 13x11 DD will see the 11x7 mono and DD seem very deep and the Volume at which targets could be heard with those two coils was no Joke there was still fuel left in the tank on those two bits of garbage that I honestly believe the Axiom would have seen them if they had of been 5-6 inches deeper that is how loud those two bits could be heard with the settings I had set, I really like the way both the 11x7 Mono and DD worked, and I would have no problem using either the DD or the Mono
  18. I also downloaded the updater software but did not connect my Axiom though, I am going to just wait until some one says the update is there
  19. Ok question on updating when I boot my Axiom up i see the 1.47 but the second bar at the top is not blanked out so does that mean I need to update to have it running 1.47.2 then, or is that what the next update will be, but just has not been released yet. I sure hope the updates for the Axiom are easier than the ones for the Nokta Legend were
  20. thats the same version mine is running Jeff and as far as I know that is the current version for the Axiom
  21. I went ahead and ordered the 11x7 DD just to have just in case, I like having the options if I run into areas that call for a different coil, thought about ordering the 16x14 Mono but not sure I want to swing that big of a coil even though it would be nice in a couple areas I have in mind to hunt.
  22. Thanks for your report Jeff, the build quality of the Axiom is what first struck me, I find the Axiom to be a work of art in build, I am new to using a high end PI and in my mind I picked a good one to start out on, and my testing an learning continues with the Axiom, I had the mind set when I first picked up the Axiom that it would be an over whelming task to learn, but it really helped with all the post and threads by Steve and others it actually has helped to alleviate the over whelmed feelings I had the Axiom is probably one of the best layed out detectors I have ever had in my hands, as far as the interface of the control pod simple to understand with buttons that are easy to get to with just a slight movement of your thumb, The Axiom in my opinion is just a well thought out detector, as far as the build of it and in my opinion just a pleasure to use for a first high end PI
  23. Yep no way would I attempt to turn on a detector inside a building of any kind, let alone the Axiom I could only imagine what the Axiom would do inside a house
