  1. All you @Sinclair and @Dan(NM) have done is give perfect examples of the reality of metal detecting in general, new people coming in watch these you tubers and think all you dig is great finds all the time, when in reality a lot of trash is in their future with this great hobby LOL
  2. Well I have 7, So i am still ok been eyeing a couple more, but most likely not going to purchase anymore, the next detector I purchase will have to tell me exactly what I have just swung the coil over, so I think I am safe from ever being tempted again to make any more purchases
  3. I think Simon needs a few more don't we all LOL
  4. Oh what to heck its only money, LOL Doesn't have to be that expensive just starting out, then once you are really hooked that's when it gets expensive, you can get into a decent really great starting detector for a few hundred dollars these days, any old cheap pouch and a cheap shovel plus maybe a hand digger and maybe a pin pointer which is not really necessary but nice to have it just makes recovery of targets a little faster, and you are up and detecting, but if you are like some of us once you are really hooked that's when the next greatest thing starts calling your name and you have to go out and buy one, but the reality of it is you can have just as much fun with a beginners detector as you can with a detector that cost 6 times more than that beginners detector, these new detectors out now days some of the cheaper ones are almost as good as the more expensive ones, as far as depth and other things are concerned and believe me depth is not all its cooked up to be most targets are found at 8 inches or less and in reality most at 6 inches or less, the key to this hobby is take it for what it is (A Hobby) and just have fun, none of us are going to get rich doing this great hobby so again just go out and have fun, it makes the metal detecting aspect of it much more enjoyable in the end, and be prepared if you actually take up this great hobby you will dig up a ton of trash targets Welcome to this great forum DP
  5. Absolutely agree with everything Kevin had to say have the same accessories on a few of my detectors and they all work fantastic Will also add if Doc comes out with a Hip Stick, it will be another great accessory to add, I ended up building a Hip Stick for myself to use and after using it with my detectors I really could not imagine swinging my detectors with out Docs accessories and the hip Stick, Docs accessories along with the hip stick I made have allowed me to detect much longer than I was able to previously because of a torn Rotator cuff and lower back issues, Docs accessories have helped a ton if anyone is on the fence about purchasing these accessories for fear of looking ridiculous, trust me I get it, but for me I had to do something, it was either try Docs accessories or quit detecting due to the pain I was experiencing, I choose to give Docs accessories a try and man oh man what a huge difference it has made for me, they have actually made detecting fun again and they dang sure beat the alternative to giving up on a hobby I absolutely love.
  6. not at 3 feet deep, a 10 gauge wire is not very large in diameter only in our dreams is there a detector that could see a 10 gauge copper wire at 3 feet deep
  7. you will be hard pressed to find a metal detector that will see a 10 gauge wire at 3 feet deep, there may be someone reply later with an idea of something to use, not real sure if a PI will see a 10 gauge copper wire at that depth or not, i know I have dug a few scrap pieces of metal at a pretty good depth using my PI, but nothing as small as a 10 gauge wire yet, and no where close to 3 feet deep either is there not a blue stake company in Texas, I do know in Arizona you are required or it is suggested to call out blue stake before digging for any lines of any type, it is a free service and can save a lot of headaches and fines, not sure your situation would apply or not though
  8. That would absolutely work also, Thank you Avantree for being willing to listen to us detectorist looking forward to what your company comes out with even a speaker as @Lunk suggested would work as long as there was a LE transmitter included I think that would be great A speaker would also have to have a way to clip it to a harness also just keep in mind what ever Avantree comes up with needs to be water Proof and dust Proof
  9. The one thing with Bone Conduction headphones is every pair I have tried is the volume is not loud enough, If Avantree could come up with some bone conduction headphones that has good volume and can connect to the aptX LL that most detectors with wireless capabilities utilize I would purchase a pair in a heartbeat, the Bone Conduction phones I used worked good but as I stated the volume needed to be louder than what is currently available and that includes the Avantree Lingo's, they work great with my Cell but with a detector they were very low volume and it made it a struggle to hear the tones and threshold if there was wind going on, using a pair of earplugs helps but earplugs kind of defeat the purpose for me because you are now back to not being able to hear what is going on around you I also Like @Lunk idea of that speaker
  10. I have never had any issues with mine having broken audio, I use them with the Legend, Axiom, and 24K all the time and the Torus have the clearest audio of any headphone or earbud I have ever tried, with the Axiom and 24K i have to use a wireless transmitter but the Legend the Torus connect rite up to the Legend Bluetooth, if yours are doing as you stated you may want to contact Avantree, they do have great customer service.
  11. Your experience is the same as my experience with Avantree, and they make some great headphones, i do not use over the ear headphones or earbuds, I do not like not being able to hear what is going on around me, or sweating to death so the Avantree Torus works fantastic for me, even the Lingo work great when used with a detector.
  12. Sounds interesting, I currently use the Torus for all my detectors, some detectors have built in wireless connection that utilizes aptX LL Personally I wish Avantree would make a set of true Bone Conduction headphones that would work in aptX LL which I know is becoming obsolete, I also use a set of your Lingo's but they are not Bone conduction they are air conduction Here is the thing to keep in mind when developing a product for hearing the tones of the detector, the Latency needs to be as low as possible the lower the better because otherwise you end with to much Lag, when you have to much Lag then you end up digging holes that are to far off the target, audio quality is good but if you could come up with something that is less than 40ms that would be fantastic like say 20-30 ms, The reason the Torus works so good is because of the Latency of 40 ms or less
  13. I dabbled a little bit with detecting with a friend of mine in the 90s, he had an old green detector which I believe was a Garrett, I remember going out with him trying to find nuggets with it I was in Arizona at that time, but I remember I would always be questioning in my mind as to why anyone would want to waist their time, swinging a stick with a round thing at the end of the stick, listening to a bunch of racket of undecipherable noise going on, fast forward to 2009 I moved to Ohio with my wife which was my girlfriend at the time, I purchased a house which was built in 1889 which had a huge fenced in back yard, we decided to purchase a couple of detectors because of the age of the house and property, not knowing anything really about detectors my girlfriend and I found a shop in Ohio that sold detectors, the Garrett AT Pro had just came out so we purchased one and also the shop had a used Mine Lab Xterra 705 with three coils so we also purchased it and the rest is history, the ATP I never did take to, and the 705 there was times I wanted to Rap it around a tree but I stuck with it and then the Xterra 705 after two years finally clicked with me, and very quickly became my favorite detector of all I have purchased since 2009, I can even remember the very first target I dug using the Xterra 705 which was a 1941 Mercury dime needless to say I have been hooked ever since.
  14. That is the same thing they did to me when I went in for an appointment, I actually ended up going with a company called Orka Labs and purchased a pair of their Orka 1 hearing aids which cost I think $1200 at the time
  15. Hope everyone has a very Marry Christmas and a happy new year Hope that jolly fat man lines everyone's stockings with those little yellow rocks
  16. Welcome onboard Todd, Glad you took my advice LOL
  17. I actually had to get hearing aids also last year, and can agree with everything you said about hearing aids, the ones I ended up purchasing I can actually connect them to my detectors instead of having to use a headphone
  18. I like you did not care for the GM1000 (Gold Monster) so I sold mine and purchased the Garrett GM 24K and have had no regrets in doing so, I was lucky enough to acquire all four coils that can be used on the 24K, my 24K came with the 6x10 coil and I also purchased the 6 inch round coil, the other two coils if you can find them which is not an easy task is the 14x8 and a little 4x6, I use all four of the coils I have for the 24K and the one I use is determined by where I am detecting the coil I seem to use the most on the 24K is the 6 inch round, all the coils are or seem to be very sensitive, I have had no issues with any of them being sensitive to bumping in to rocks or bushes at all I was in the market for a good PI and considered purchasing either the GPX 6000 or the Axiom the areas I nugget detect there are no streams or bodies of water for me to detect so the SDC2300 was not on my list to consider, I ended up going with the Axiom and have no regrets, but having said that I am fairly new to the world of PIs, so it is a learning experience for me, The Axiom for me personally is a pretty versatile PI, with very simple settings in a fairly compact detector design, it collapses down to a very compact size and can be packed into the cloth case it all comes in when you purchase it which makes it nice when you decide to take a trip, there are 6 coils currently available two of which comes with the Axiom when you purchase the Axiom, but if you are like me I like having coil options so I also purchased the 7x11 DD and the 16x14 Mono just to give me a couple more options in coils, as of rite now there are no available after market coils for the Axiom, which is ok by me for now reading @Steve Herschbach reviews on the Axiom and a few other things I read is basically why I went with the Axiom, and like I said I have no regrets in my decision to go the route I took
  19. its amazing what you can find when you start really doing a search LOL
  20. I completed my Hip Stick a few days ago and have already re designed it a little bit, I used 1 inch Delrin Ball Bearings at each end of my carbon fiber tube the 1 inch Delrin ball Bearings are tight in the Bigg Lugg and Warner belt Clip but they do fit, the size that actually fits loosely is 7/8 inch Delrin Ball Bearings, Delrin Ball Bearings are a hard plastic solid ball used in different things like transmissions and other things
  21. Here is another place looks like they are in Australia or somewhere on the other side of the big pond https://www.tradetools.com/bigg-lugg-bungee-ball-and-belt-clip-for-all-tools-bigglugg2
