  1. There are some steel alloy crown bottle caps in the USA that will have IDs from 18 to 22. Others will have IDs in the mid 30s. They sound really good especially if they are a little rusty. I usually hunt with iron filter 3, iron stability 1 to 3 and depend on the Ferro Check meter. Since you can't see the Ferro Check meter underwater, the best way is what Ken suggested. If you can center the coil over the target you should get a non-ferrous response along the center spine of the coil and swinging left and right. You should get a strong iron response as you move the front tip of the coil inline with the center spine just away from the bottle cap. If you turn up the iron filter to 6 or 7 and turn up the iron stability setting you will still get non-ferrous responses near the center of the coil but the iron responses will start before the tip and tail of the coil move away from the bottle cap. Practicing this tendency with some found bottle caps would be good. Notching them out would depend on where they ID in you area and what other coins or jewelry may also have similar IDs. Here in the USA, I don't want to notch them out since many gold rings can also have the same 18 to 22 IDs and our US 5 cent coin has a target ID close by. Raising the discrimination up to 22 for my area would also mean missing lots of gold jewelry.
  2. Nothing new in that answer. It is a quote from the original article published by Minelab in 2018 “Multi IQ, What Is It” when the Equinox came out. The quote from Dr. Wahrlich is referring to Multi IQ……not the improved (?) Multi IQ+.
  3. Nenad, your reports are so amazing. They are almost the exact opposite of what I, Steve, Gerry, Andy and others experience here in the western USA. Maybe it’s a magnetite vs maghemite thing or EMI???
  4. 14 people have replied on the thread. Two of them actually own and have extensively used the Axiom as field testers and consultants for Garrett. The fact that they are willing to go right ahead and start a topic like this and be very honest about likes and dislikes before this detector is released says a lot about their integrity and that they are not being constrained by Garrett. The issues they are noticing are way less than minor so far and aren't any different than what happens on any PI or super sensitive VLF that also has wireless audio and internal rechargeable batteries.....
  5. Yeah Dave, just like with Deus 1. I was told in no uncertain terms that there would be a Deus 1 software update in the first half of this year. At the moment I just want a Deus 2 software update. Maybe that will happen soon……maybe not. I agree, the Equinox will most likely not get another update unless Minelab suddnely decide to really be generous to all of its loyal Equinox users.
  6. I have absolutely no problem with the USA price of the Manticle, oops Manticore. I am a sucker for anything that is actually substantially better than my beloved Equinox and that is based on similar SMF tech. I mean, Geez, I really like the Legend......
  7. Being semi-retired, living on USA Social Security and a tiny pension.......I dig pennies and anything else that sounds like a coin or jewelry. I definitely enjoy metal detecting of all sorts for the fun of it, but I also have my eye on how much it costs to buy a detector, pay for gas and how much finds are paying me back for walking my dog........ I don't get stressed over it but I don't ignore how much money goes into the bank from modern US coins and jewelry melt value either. Much like Deus 2, Manticore does seem to be "weighted" towards salt beach/water hunting. Hopefully that does not skew the whole Manticore towards ignoring many of those small low conductor targets near the salt ground balance point like Deus 2 is presently setup. Sounds like the entire two batteries instead of one is all about more run-time since Mr Lawrie gave such a short 8 to 9 hour operating time and a long charging time.......... Manticore looks like a fantastic detector.
  8. Just having a bit more fun with the name Manticore..... Every time I hear the Minelab Chief Engineer Mark Lawrie (Australian) pronounce it, I hear Manacle or Manticle. We know what a manacle is, that's easy. Manticle.........y'all can look that one up for yourselves. One reference is to a type of warship from Star Trek. The other reference is a lot more male specific/personal.
  9. Thanks CPT_GhostLight for correcting me. I haven't had to order or do a battery replacement yet on my Equinoxes. I just assumed and assumed WRONG!!!!
  10. It does...... It also means that the Manticore has twice the power output source of the Equinox which could mean it has more power to offset its better EMI shielding (reported), more power for use of a wider range of frequencies and its much lower frequency weighted programs as opposed to the Equinox (reported) and more visual target identification features (easy to see on the display). Whether two lightweight lithium batteries instead of one drastically changes the way Manticore feels ergonomically compared to the Equinox......we will individually find out soon......maybe.
  11. Mr. Lawrie clearly stated in the long 45 minute video with a German speaking field tester, that Minelab redesigned the Manticore handle so it can hold TWO 18650 3.7 volt lithium ion batteries........as opposed to the one 18650 3.7v in the Equinox.
  12. I do a lot of my detecting at 10,000 altitude where just picking up a short pick or moving a basketball sized boulder can make a person winded. Many of these places are hydraulic pit mining sites and talus slopes and are loaded with magnetite and every metamorphic rock is a hot rock. Since these are fault zones.......there are lots of metamorphic rocks!!! I have used a Gold Racer, Gold Kruzer, Goldmonster 1000 and the 24K at these sites. To say they had trouble ground balancing would be a huge understatement. Gold Racer, Gold Kruzer and the 24K would literally overload at half sensitivity....... Using the Goldmonster 1000 for 8 hours at half sensitivity and ground balancing it every minute got old really fast. The amount of coil knock sensitivity......lower the sensitivity some more....... To say I got skunked at these sites with those detectors again would be a huge understatement. Using the Equinox in its Gold programs set on Multi at these sites is like swinging a less than 3 lbs, steady/quiet threshold, well ground balanced, super sensitive to small gold PI that I can run at or near maxed out sensitivity......and I don't get skunked using the Equinox either. I have no doubt that the Legend will do the same at these sites from the testing I have been able to do. So I guess overall depth is all relative and dependent on many factors.
  13. That was a very informative letter from Garrett and shows how practical they can be. Makes perfect sense. Walt, I enjoyed writing that up for you. It helped me do a real head to head comparison between the Legend and my 24K=your GMX. As much as I really like the 24K and especially its MXT roots, I just don't use it that much. I would much rather use the Nox 800 or the Legend. My 24K is for sale on Ebay right now. If it doesn't sell I won't mind very much since I do like it. But...........from my experience it is only slightly better than the Legend or Equinox. Similar to the new Manticore, having all of that extra power going to the coil that was claimed by Whites and probably is true, is only an advantage if it is usable. If the ground is too hot.......all of that power goes to waste. I hope the GMX works out well for you.
  14. Dave (midalake) linked a post from the Dankowski forum quoting Nasa Tom as saying Manticore has an ID scale from -99 to +99 with salt being 0....................if that is true.......hmmmmmm, lots of fun for us folks that often spend the whole day hunting in the wrap around zone!
  15. At least in the US, Nox 1500 is more accurate. They should rename the Equinox 800, the Equinox 1000 and do a couple of more updates to cover the greedy increase of its original $899 USD price. In all seriousness, I am a gigantic Minelab Equinox lover and user. As long as mine works it will get used even if it has several battery replacements. Other than the leaking issues, wobbly cheap shaft, coil ears and arm rests breaking and no Pitch tones for the Park, Field and Beach modes, in my opinion and for the places I hunt, the Equinox 800 is just about perfect warts and all. And I really like its name since I am into astronomy. Manticore just doesn't do it for me. Maybe the detector will.
  16. Just having some more fun with this ridiculous name for a detector......... Another candidate for the Equinox 1500 Mascot... if you have two of them......Mantis
  17. Take out the 2D target trace and the weird name and we have a good description of the Nokta Legend……..
  18. Yep, the Mi-6 will flash just like the coils when tuned OFF. Perfectly normal.
  19. Since this is the Detector Prospector forum…..there is one Gold mode. The selectable single frequencies seem to be the same. The chief engineer did say more than once that Multi IQ+ uses higher frequencies than Multi IQ.
  20. The YouTube video posted above of the Q&A session had some good details…..100 digit target ID scale for sure, the Minelab Chief engineer said absolutely that it has “Target Trace”, that Manticore is a reworking, remodeling with enhancement of the Equinox 600/800 and Manticore will only come as one model. Those are a few bits of information along with the $1599 USD price.
  21. This SPP is one of the refurbished ones according to its serial number tag. Maybe it was tweaked…..maybe Carl would know. Personally, I don’t need the other features that are missing. This SPP will mostly be a relic/fresh water beach detector anyway and a backup/loaner.
  22. Hi KOB, If Minelab have sorted out the waterproofing, coil ear/armrest breaking issues and shaft issues that saltwater hunters quickly encountered with the Equinox for guys like you…….that would be fantastic since Equinox owners already know how well Multi IQ tech functions internally in salt and iron mineralization. Nobody should take anything I have said about me being not particularly interested in Manticore as a slight against it other than the name is ridiculous. I just don’t need another new detector right now.
  23. Same reason that Minelab have made us find out what the hell Manticore means…..totally obscure and a mishmash of languages (misspelled) to boot. Why they picked that name can only be based on some kind of marketing arrogance. It’s not as fun to say as sciagurato!
