  1. I also ordered the orange battery pack from Kiev Ukraine about 3 weeks ago. It arrived today. Outstanding product and a great way to get 12.6 volts of power from three 18650 lithiums. I made the 9 AA battery holder recommended by Auminesweeper since I had an extra battery tray and several single battery holders. Since I like to use rechargeable NiMH batteries which are 1.2 to 1.4 volts that gives me another way to get 12 volts into my SPP. A word of extreme caution. I also made a 4 Lithium battery pack out of another Whites battery tray. I only charged the Lithiums to 3.7 volts so I had exactly 14.8 volts going into my SPP that I got from Snakejim. I had been hunting for about half an hour but it was a really hot day. I heard a really loud rise and fall in the threshold tone and something popped. Turned it off and back on. All I had was a steady threshold tone. It was like there wasn't even a coil on the detector since the SPP could not detect any targets. When I got home I tested the charge level and volts of the battery pack=14 volts exactly. So, my nice SPP has been sent to the Oregon repair facility. Hopefully it can be fixed. If it is repairable.......no more 14+volts. I will keep the voltage at 12.6 maximum from now on.
  2. You won’t really know about overall depth with your SPP until you get to run some in the ground tests. Detech makes very good coils and they will work well with the TDI and they are fully waterproof. Personally I would consider the 15x8 to be the largest I would use where I detect.
  3. Yes, even the stock Whites 12" Dual Field feels heavy on the SPP. Plus, without doing a battery voltage upgrade which is risky, larger coils may not have much more depth than the smaller coils. Most people that own an SPP/TDI SL have reported that staying below 11 to 12" in overall diameter works best with the voltage around 12.6 volts and for weight and balance. Coiltek and Nugget Finder 14X9", any 11" round monos, Detech 15X8", 11" 11X6" and 8" coils for instance are all good choices so are Miner John Designs 12X8" and 9.5X5" if you are looking for deeper coins, hoards, etc. Also, only coils made specifically for the TDI SL/SPP like the Whites and MJD coils will fit on the Whites lower shaft easily. Coils like the ones mentioned from other manufactures will need an extra washer or some other solution since the space between the coil ears is bigger on those coils. So, a bigger coil is not necessarily better using the TDI SL/SPP.
  4. Only in the western USA which has very different ground conditions compared to you folks in Australia. The Legend does just fine here for shallower/smaller gold using Goldfield M with discrimination pattern G and especially A. Private message Nenad or email him at PhaseTechnical. He is a dealer and avid gold prospector in Brighton, SA
  5. Your description of the problem...... especially for detectors that use simultaneous multi frequencies and are extremely sensitive sounds like electro magnetic interference/EMI. I can run my Deus 2 in my home or in my backyard BUT I will have to really lower the sensitivity and do several frequency scans. Otherwise, the default 90 to 95 sensitivity levels will pick up huge amounts of EMI with the display literally scrolling through hundreds of numbers per minute along with constant chatter that will make even responses from large coins hard to hear if I am doing indoor testing. The same thing happens with my Equinox, Legend and especially pulse induction detectors. At my house I can even hear EMI when I turn on my ancient Tesoro single frequency detector if I put discrimination on minimum and turn up the sensitivity.
  6. Chuck, it ran okay for me. No release date for the elliptical coil yet. Nokta will release a mockup and name for their new pinpointer which pairs with the Legend at Detectival this weekend. Pinpointer is not finished. Threshold tone improvements for Bluetooth headphones update is ready. So is the new update tool for Mac users. Some people have made multiple videos about various problems with 1.09 along with some people reporting chatter. Nokta 100% stand behind the 1.09 update as by far the best software version to run. Like Steve has said several times and it is true from my experience, if a person isn't having success with the Equinox, Deus 2 and Legend, they really need to develop (or re-develop) their detecting skills.....
  7. Try lowering the sensitivity on all programs to 80 or so. If that doesn't work and you have done a noise reduction scan, put it in program 7 Deus ll Mono and see if the chatter improves. You might need to adjust the single frequencies. If the chatter is still there both in lower (like 17 kHz) and higher frequencies like 40 kHz you either have some really bad EMI coming from somewhere....phone, wi-fi, power lines, electric fences or nearby first responder/aircraft/military sources or you have something wrong with your Deus 2 somewhere........ Also, outdoor air conditions, heavy duty lights, fluorescent lights, fuse boxes, rheostat switches, generators, electric pumps and many more things can be sources of EMI that sensitive detectors like Deus 2 can pick up as targets.
  8. I'm semi-retired so I usually have 2 to 4 hours 6 days a week to at least take my dog for a nice walk and find a few coins and some bling or jewelry. Gold prospecting is not happening right now due to a foot injury and because I'm waiting for the Axiom!!!!!!
  9. 60 to 100 hours per month of coin and jewelry hunting. Sometimes much more if I am healthy, not too busy and gold prospecting/relic hunting too.
  10. Garrett Axiom hopefully with Whites SPP for backup/loaner in the pulse induction category Equinox, Legend and Deus 2 Lite (it may go bye bye if no update happens soon.....it is missing several options in Notch and User Profiles and sucks on small gold nuggets) for VLFs One of my grown-up kids has my Vanquish 440 (he doesn't seem to want to give it back😪) and I have a wonderful Tesoro Silver uMax for my grandkid to play with. Great topic bigtim1973!!!
  11. That looks kind of like what the Mi-6 LED does when it is being charged and charge is complete. Weird since it is not being charged......... How to reset the Mi-6 might be my first step. That may also be the LED indication that the Mi-6 is ready to be paired (if it unpaired from your Deus 2). I no longer have an Mi-6, so maybe somebody else will chime in.
  12. There are some steel alloy crown bottle caps in the USA that will have IDs from 18 to 22. Others will have IDs in the mid 30s. They sound really good especially if they are a little rusty. I usually hunt with iron filter 3, iron stability 1 to 3 and depend on the Ferro Check meter. Since you can't see the Ferro Check meter underwater, the best way is what Ken suggested. If you can center the coil over the target you should get a non-ferrous response along the center spine of the coil and swinging left and right. You should get a strong iron response as you move the front tip of the coil inline with the center spine just away from the bottle cap. If you turn up the iron filter to 6 or 7 and turn up the iron stability setting you will still get non-ferrous responses near the center of the coil but the iron responses will start before the tip and tail of the coil move away from the bottle cap. Practicing this tendency with some found bottle caps would be good. Notching them out would depend on where they ID in you area and what other coins or jewelry may also have similar IDs. Here in the USA, I don't want to notch them out since many gold rings can also have the same 18 to 22 IDs and our US 5 cent coin has a target ID close by. Raising the discrimination up to 22 for my area would also mean missing lots of gold jewelry.
  13. Nothing new in that answer. It is a quote from the original article published by Minelab in 2018 “Multi IQ, What Is It” when the Equinox came out. The quote from Dr. Wahrlich is referring to Multi IQ……not the improved (?) Multi IQ+.
  14. Nenad, your reports are so amazing. They are almost the exact opposite of what I, Steve, Gerry, Andy and others experience here in the western USA. Maybe it’s a magnetite vs maghemite thing or EMI???
  15. 14 people have replied on the thread. Two of them actually own and have extensively used the Axiom as field testers and consultants for Garrett. The fact that they are willing to go right ahead and start a topic like this and be very honest about likes and dislikes before this detector is released says a lot about their integrity and that they are not being constrained by Garrett. The issues they are noticing are way less than minor so far and aren't any different than what happens on any PI or super sensitive VLF that also has wireless audio and internal rechargeable batteries.....
  16. Yeah Dave, just like with Deus 1. I was told in no uncertain terms that there would be a Deus 1 software update in the first half of this year. At the moment I just want a Deus 2 software update. Maybe that will happen soon……maybe not. I agree, the Equinox will most likely not get another update unless Minelab suddnely decide to really be generous to all of its loyal Equinox users.
  17. I have absolutely no problem with the USA price of the Manticle, oops Manticore. I am a sucker for anything that is actually substantially better than my beloved Equinox and that is based on similar SMF tech. I mean, Geez, I really like the Legend......
  18. Being semi-retired, living on USA Social Security and a tiny pension.......I dig pennies and anything else that sounds like a coin or jewelry. I definitely enjoy metal detecting of all sorts for the fun of it, but I also have my eye on how much it costs to buy a detector, pay for gas and how much finds are paying me back for walking my dog........ I don't get stressed over it but I don't ignore how much money goes into the bank from modern US coins and jewelry melt value either. Much like Deus 2, Manticore does seem to be "weighted" towards salt beach/water hunting. Hopefully that does not skew the whole Manticore towards ignoring many of those small low conductor targets near the salt ground balance point like Deus 2 is presently setup. Sounds like the entire two batteries instead of one is all about more run-time since Mr Lawrie gave such a short 8 to 9 hour operating time and a long charging time.......... Manticore looks like a fantastic detector.
  19. Just having a bit more fun with the name Manticore..... Every time I hear the Minelab Chief Engineer Mark Lawrie (Australian) pronounce it, I hear Manacle or Manticle. We know what a manacle is, that's easy. Manticle.........y'all can look that one up for yourselves. One reference is to a type of warship from Star Trek. The other reference is a lot more male specific/personal.
  20. Thanks CPT_GhostLight for correcting me. I haven't had to order or do a battery replacement yet on my Equinoxes. I just assumed and assumed WRONG!!!!
  21. It does...... It also means that the Manticore has twice the power output source of the Equinox which could mean it has more power to offset its better EMI shielding (reported), more power for use of a wider range of frequencies and its much lower frequency weighted programs as opposed to the Equinox (reported) and more visual target identification features (easy to see on the display). Whether two lightweight lithium batteries instead of one drastically changes the way Manticore feels ergonomically compared to the Equinox......we will individually find out soon......maybe.
  22. Mr. Lawrie clearly stated in the long 45 minute video with a German speaking field tester, that Minelab redesigned the Manticore handle so it can hold TWO 18650 3.7 volt lithium ion batteries........as opposed to the one 18650 3.7v in the Equinox.
  23. I do a lot of my detecting at 10,000 altitude where just picking up a short pick or moving a basketball sized boulder can make a person winded. Many of these places are hydraulic pit mining sites and talus slopes and are loaded with magnetite and every metamorphic rock is a hot rock. Since these are fault zones.......there are lots of metamorphic rocks!!! I have used a Gold Racer, Gold Kruzer, Goldmonster 1000 and the 24K at these sites. To say they had trouble ground balancing would be a huge understatement. Gold Racer, Gold Kruzer and the 24K would literally overload at half sensitivity....... Using the Goldmonster 1000 for 8 hours at half sensitivity and ground balancing it every minute got old really fast. The amount of coil knock sensitivity......lower the sensitivity some more....... To say I got skunked at these sites with those detectors again would be a huge understatement. Using the Equinox in its Gold programs set on Multi at these sites is like swinging a less than 3 lbs, steady/quiet threshold, well ground balanced, super sensitive to small gold PI that I can run at or near maxed out sensitivity......and I don't get skunked using the Equinox either. I have no doubt that the Legend will do the same at these sites from the testing I have been able to do. So I guess overall depth is all relative and dependent on many factors.
