5.3 also supports BT LE channel classification at the peripheral device - what that mumbo jumbo means is that the best channel can be determined by the peripheral device (e.g., headphones) and is not solely determined by the central device ( e.g., phone, metal detector) resulting in less data errors occurring between the central device and the peripheral at greater distances,mimproving data accuracy, throughput, and decreased latency. Which might be what you were reading about. But that low 6 ms latency Is only associated with Bluetooth LE under 5.3 not standard BT under 5.3.

You're mixing up the BT standard platform (5.3) with the BT codec. Without the APTX-LL codec or APTX Adaptive codec (both less than 50ms) and associated proprietary Qualcomm chipset, you are stuck with SBC codec's 200ms latency even if the hardware/firmware is rocking BT 5.3. Latency also has nothing to do with the distance between the receiver and the transmitter, it has to do with how fast the digital audio can be encoded and decoded.

GPR can ID large targets at extreme depth but still can't resolve small, closely spaced discrete targets like an induction balance detector can and certainly cannot be obtained at the same price point as IB detectors. But like others have said, from a depth standpoint, IB detectors have basically hit the wall as dictated by the physics of the detection principle being used. Now it's about user interface improvements (ID, Audio, Graphics) and increasing reliable IDs at depth and fast signal processing to improve unmasking, iron discrimation, and to reduce large iron falsing. However, the holy grail is unlikely to happen using IB - being able to reliably differentiate gold from aluminum.

Thanks. The question asked is not uncommon. Beleive me ML's use of the above diagram and how it "implies" all 5 single frequencies are combined to create Multi-IQ confused a lot of people and generated a lot of heated debate. ML was playing on the common misconception that the more frequencies combined tge better, when in reality all you need are two frequencies to be combined to get the job done and most of the heavy lifting is done by the signal processing software. Because of the confusion and blowback from knowledgeable engineers that ML was unnecessarily conflating the single frequency options and Multi-IQ, ML relented and added the footnote to their confusing cloud "diagram" to note that the diagram is "representative only".

In a nutshell, the single frequency options on the Equinox 600 and 800 have no correlation to the two or three frequencies that are combined in Multi-IQ to generate the simultaneous multi-frequency transmit signal (that's right, Multi-IQ DOES NOT combine 5+10+15+20+40khz, it combines two (sometimes 3) widely displaced, carefully chosen frequencies). The 600 has fewer single frequency options than the 800 but the Multi-IQ Simultaneous Multi-frequency profiles for both detectors are the same for a given mode as stated in the note below the diagram below. HTH.

Suit yourself. It's your money. Standard SBC BT at about 200ms delay with a normal sweep speed your single target will appear as two targets separated by a few inches. Believe me, any experienced detectorist you will notice that and it would drive them nuts. Been there, done that. No thanks. That's why all purpose built detecting wireless audio accessories use proprietary low latency wireless (Garret Z-Lynk, ML WiMax, Nokta "Green" wireless), BT APTX-LL (Equinox 600/800, Vanquish, GPX 6000, Nokta Legend), or the newest BT LE tech (Manticore, Nox 700/900) that have about 15 to 40ms lag max. Some folks take issue with even that low level of lag and plug in directly (see Dave (Midalake's) post above). There are numerous threads here on DP that discuss the topic. Just do a search on "low latency" or APTX-LL and you will get some great info. HH

That's not a low latency transmitter. Are you using low latency headphones? If you are going to pass on the supplied Manticore phones, highly recommend you use an APTX low latency transmitter and APTX low latency phones, otherwise the lag will make it difficult to line up and pinpoint your targets.

She is a great ML rep as she really seems to relate well to the customer wants and needs, at least in regards to coils, as ML themselves. They do seem to be in the coil selling business, though. Have to purchase the 900 so I can put a useless 6" coil on ebay.

I don't think XP makes any CF accessories or products, unfortunately.

This expanded ID scale is great as long as the stability and repeatability of the Nox TIDs are maintained and the scale does not suffer from high end (high conductor) compression. Legend is a little jumpy and only goes to 60, D2 is pretty stable through 99 but the high conductors (and large aluminum) targets really get compressed into the mid-80 to 99 range limiting ability to resolve the type of high conductor. But frankly I'm digging all those targets unless I get an indication it's an aluminum can based on the audio and traced target footprint via the pinpointer.

The expert deciders are a judge and/or jury who likely have no tech background who are being fed "facts" by lawyers paid to zealously defend their clients and paid expert witnesses. Such is the world of intellectual property law. Oh and you can't sue someone just because they stole your good idea if you didn't or couldn't patent that idea. Finally, it is hilarious to see one foreign-based company sue another foreign based company in a US court. ML did the same thing a few years back with XP (France) because ML hard the foresight to be the first to patent the simple and ubiquitous concept of connecting the detector control pod to a PC via USB for updating. A feature that is expected to be provided with all recent detectors from the major players.

Yes. The new audio tone options (pitch) are flying under the radar here and are a big deal for me in addition to the other improvements (including vastly improved pod menu navigation...we have a back arrow now!) because I use pitch almost exclusively with the D2. Always wanted to be able to use Nox gold mode audio in the other modes. Hate losing the APTX-LL and Wi Max options, though.

I guess they had to upgrade the guts to at least be comparable to the Legend with the full target ID range, flash light, vibrating handle etc etc sound familiar? 🙂 Yeah, but Nokta managed to do it for $500US less 🤣 The Legends are deep discounted @$510 right now (with wireless phones). Nevertheless, like what they did. Basically the Manticore without the coil stem upgrade, Manticore coil compatibility and without Multi IQ+ target trace. Makes sense from a ML mass production standpoint too because the use of the common Manticore/Nox 900 shaft system means adjacent hardware production lines are almost identical. The should have called it the "Equicore 700/900" or "Mantinox 700/900"🤣 It's actually a tempting upgrade for me because I love my Coiltek Nox 5x10 so much, I was going to keep the Nox around even after my inevitable Manticore purchase in mid-2023 once the M-core small coil finally hits the streets. Hate to lose compatibility with my Torus neck speaker though.

No laughing matter phrunt, that is 100% true. But the other issue is if you try to put the Mollycot coil chip into another 3rd party coil, a singularity will be created that will gravitationally attract all comets and asteroids in the solar system to simultaneously converge towards earth. So ML has this one basically locked down tight. Kudos to them on their tenacity to make sure compatibility streams are never crossed between detector product lines.

Yeah. That Nokta CF lower is the ticket to be able to use the existing OEM shaft/stem system.

Wasn't a fan of this coil for the D1 (especially on the OEM shaft, which is undersized for it and flexes too much) and it only should provide marginal 2" swing coverage increase over the 11" (swing coverage is simply determined by the vertical dimension of the elliptical DD coil), perhaps a smidgen more depth, but the value is low due to the high cost ($400) and weight penalty incurred. If you only have the 9" coil, different story as it might make sense as an alternative to the 11", but the issue regarding insufficient stock shaft stiffness still remains I believe as well as balance and weight penalties. Will be interested in the user reports for this one, regardless. It could be killer on a 3rd party CF shaft at the beach.

So, so glad to be sitting out the Minelab waiting list hoopla insanity this time around...I know its both a blessing and a curse to you dealers. Will get around to checking this out sometime next year after I have full year on my current flagship detector. I presume they'll still be manufacturing these MontyCore's six months from now, dontcha think? Or I may hop on board one dumped to ebay by delusional pseudo detectorists who figure out it's not Harry Potter's magic wand (no detector is) and who still don't realize that hard work, learning and clicking with your machine (whatever it may be), research, location, location, location, and a little bit o' Luck are the true ingredients for successful and enjoyable detecting. After all, just because you own a set of Tiger Wood's golf clubs or LeBron James' shoes doesn't mean you can play like them. 🤣🤣🤪

Minelab is not going to run a Black Friday deal on a detector that has not yet been released. ML has no knowledge of the dealer pre-orders and in many cases people who have more personal relationships with dealers are placed on lists without even putting down a deposit. Bottom line is that you are pondering a situation that is not going to happen.

FWIW - The six-inch round coil was not available until about 5 months after the Equinox was released. I confirmed this by going back through old posts on the forum. Looks like we started seeing people doing tests and comparisons in August - September 2018 (The Equinox was released in late January 2018).
