  1. Wayfarer, How is that clever weatherproofing working so far? I thought the Eq was already waterproof??
  2. Thank you for clearing that up Clay. Was there any rationale given, or was it an arbitrary and/or political move? Thanks for any light you can shine on my ignorance of the situation.
  3. Please let us know when you find out relicmeister. I'm very interested to hear all about it. You too tsunamiscott.
  4. If I were a gambling man, relicmeister, I would bet on it. If for no other reason than ocean cargo is WAY less expensive to ship than air freight. I imagine the first shipment was a small but significant gesture to meet a deadline. The second shipment I will bet is a good bit larger than the first, and the third larger still (ramped up production). By that time, if all the preorders aren't fulfilled, the wailing will probably hit a fever pitch, but the unhappy remnants will probably be a small minority. Hang in there kiddies, "Christmas" is just a short time away!!!
  5. Who was in charge of policing this ban, the USFS? Did they actually try to police such a big area from hiking, or was it prospecting they wanted to stop? Oops, I see it says mining. So, they include what exactly as mining? Metal detecting? panning? sluicing? dry washing? Where did they try to draw the line?
  6. Now I got the You Tube working. Since it is a beach unit, it might be perfect for someone who can't wait until their Equinox arrives, but it would match up better with a Garret Carrot kit.
  7. NICE! I went to Youtube through the link, but for some reason the vid. didn't play. It is nice to see its price is appreciating on the open market!!
  8. Better yet, give us a video demonstration of that antiquity in action!!! We don't mind if you salt the sand box/ sandpit. How deep will it find a $1 coin??? P.S. In fact, start a "Minelab vs. Radio Shack" thread. Now that would get a good chuckle.
  9. I imagine it would take a very large offer to get you to part with it now phrunt. Interesting anecdote.
  10. We have a foot of snow on the ground in this part of lower Michigan, with 3 to 5 more inches to fall today. Thanks for the vid!
  11. I had never heard of the Detectorists tv series. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm having a look, and I already like the folk music I'm hearing.
  12. I'm not sure I understand you here. Two months from now what will be out? The Equinox??? Deliveries are already being made, so that can't be what you mean. The Equinox to everybody who has prepaid? The Equinox to those who haven't prepaid? Please elaborate what you mean Mitchel.
  13. Looks like it could very well be to me. A paleontologist at OSU in Columbus could probably tell you.
  14. One interesting thing to note about mineral replacement in some ammonites I have seen (and petrified wood too), if the conditions are right, the replacement mineral is cryptocrystaline quartz with opalescence. Essentially you get a similar effect to fluorescence, but without the need for any wavelength of uv light. It is like an enourmous fossil that is also an opal. It wouldn't surprise me if the uv effect adds to the brilliance, though I know nothing about that. Nice specimen Hibby.
  15. Nice vid araratgold! What are the ranges of a Phantom 4 Pro Plus, both distance from controller and flight time/charge? Max elevation? ...never mind... I looked it up here: https://www.dji.com/?from=store_top_nav
  16. Around here (Midwest USA), black light is ultraviolet. For us, "pudding rock" is usually mudstone that had glacially rafted rocks dropped in it before being lithified (cemented into rock). It isn't conglomerate, because the majority of the rock isn't the cobbles and or pebbles, but the siltstone or mudstone. Conglomerate is the lithified rocks of what was once, for instance, a stream bed or river bed or alluvial fan section that was subsequently buried and lithified. Conglomerate rock, as a bedded sedimentary rock body, is mostly made up of what were once boulders or cobbles or pebbles with the minor fraction being finer sediments and cement. Since "pudding rock" isn't necessarily a technical term, however; people might use that term differently in different localities. So, maybe in some areas pudding stone is the term people use for conglomerate, which is an actual geological term. Apologies if that was long winded.
  17. Whatever its origin, that took some intense heat followed by a quick chill. I think it is cool no matter whether it is glass foundry refuse, volcanic obsidian, or meteorite creation.
  18. I think I was following you pretty clearly until the "lower gear, ... manual ground balance" part. Since I'm a newb here, I don't think I appreciate the full implication of what you're getting at here. Would you be willing to elaborate about this a little for the newbs? Thanks.
