  1. We have a Chevrolet by the same name already and spell the same way, Chuck
  2. The only thing I know for sure is when Minelab gets my GM is I hope they fix it the first time around. Now if they don't I'll just send it back again. If it happens again I'm not going to get mad but we may get to know each other on a first name before it's over with. It's a cost Minelab is having to pay just with shippng both ways.I'm going to stop any second guess on electronics I know nothing about. So if you ask me about the weather I will reply. Thanks Chuck
  3. Steve This is the only forum that the owner of it is not a Minelab dealer. It's like JW said this is the only open forum. The trouble still most on here are Minelab user and some may feel or still not sure it's okay to post. I say by you starting this post will open the door to let all know it's okay if you don't own a Minelab to nugget hunt. Just maybe we'll see more show and tell now. Chuck
  4. Hey Dave Thanks for the picture and the post. Come back when you got more show and tell. Chuck
  5. Bhogg That's the pits you think by getting a new one it will fix your problem. Sometime back the same thing happen to me by one of white's distributor and sending one that had the same trouble as the one I had. Their heart was in the right place but they didn't know all the trouble we were having. I'm sure Minelab will get it fixed for all of us but it will take time. When I send it in I say keep it as long as needed. Now if they want to loan me a 7000 until they get my 1000 fixed that's okay. I'll eat humble pie and take it. Till then Chuck
  6. True Chuck PS The reason for a short reply is my note book computer went down. I may never be the same again.
  7. Mike C on Bill's forum made a statement that he wish he could turn off the auto ground balance. The more I think about it just maybe the trouble is that the ground balance is not coming on. It would be big trouble in Colorado but no problem back home in mild ground. ???????? Chuck
  8. I don't think I've ever seen White's have such a great price as they do here. If anyone needs a detector this is the time to get it at half the cost. Chuck
  9. I called in yesterday on one of Minelab's local number and the recorder said they would call me back within 48 hours. Well that came true today. I was told that Minelab had one of their Engineers from Australia coming in and he she would be testing all the GM 1000. I'm sure in hopes they can isolate the problem and can be a easy fix. I was given a return number and waiting now for a shipping label at Minelab's cost. In due time for us that have a problem with our GM 1000 Minelab will get it fixed. Chuck
  10. I too on the 10 inch have done the same as you. i don't see that anyone would cause them self a problem doing it like your picture shows. Thanks for the picture. Chuck
  11. Steve We all will pass on someday and I hope they have a kind word to say about us. Some of you may not know this but Heaven has been closed to all nugget hunters. God has had it with us prospectors digging up the streets that he had paved with gold. Chuck
  12. Like I said in another post I had big time trouble with both coils in Colorado. Back here in San Antonio Tx. it works okay if i keep the sensitivity low or put it on auto sen. The thing is here the ground is very mild. i'd done some panning of some cons and dump it in my yard. It had lots of black sand and I'm thinking I'll see how it reacts over that. I had the big coil on and i can't say it was a lot of difference but it was some. The trouble I see on pulling the coil cable down sharp is over time this may cause it to break. Now will this happen before the warranty runs out on the coil or after ? I think we the customer is making this our problem but it shouldn't be. Oh to answer your question I do have my name in the pot at Minelab. I think all calls is getting a recorder. On two numbers that is what I got. White's had the problem with the MX Sport and not one time did I ever get a recording when i call them. I think no I know Minelab is a great company and over time I've had many of their detectors and as long as I can swing one I'm sure I'll buy another. The trouble is this one has got to be fixed. Chuck
  13. Steve It looks that you got it all together with the nuggets you have for show and tell. Thanks for the picture of part of your team and that's the 7000 with the GM 1000. Next time include you in the picture too so to complete the team. The best to You the next time out. Chuck PS A detector is no better than the guy behind it!
  14. Hey Tom I have a Daughter in the middle of it plus some friends too. Most of it has been covered on the news. The trouble it may be a while before it's over with. I know people have been going down her street in boats but the good thing she is on the high side of the street. My wife said they are asking for more boats. Yet you see so many on the news already. Chuck
  15. I'm rich! With the sensitivity set at 9 in my back yard it shows it's covered in gold. If I put it on auto sen. I'm back in the poor house. Now this is with the big coil and no dog leg on the cable coming out the coil' I went out to do some testing with about a 1/2 gram nugget. One thing I found out was if I got say three inches away from the nugget the ID bar won't show anything. That's with the sen. set at three like i said but you can hear the signal good. The sen. bar comes alive when the coil is about a 1 1/2 away. You may have known this but it's new to me that you could hear it good but come up short on the sen.bar. I forgot to say that with the auto sen. I got the same results. We may not have much gold in Texas but we got all the water you could want right now I have a daughter lives in Houston and her street is like a river but she's on high ground so far. The best to All Chuck
  16. I'm not sure if I'm ready for a new detector from Minelab. I want to know if my GM 1000 is good to go before I put money out for another. That's maybe if it's not another gold detector. Now I got more to look forward to in Sept. being I've got four birthdays I got to put money out for. I think I need another detector and they will get older if I give them something are not. Chuck
  17. Thanks Steve for the quick reply on the best settings on the beach. I'll get back on how it went when it's clear to make the trip there. Chuck
  18. John I may find that what you said may be true but I won't know until I try. Here in San Antonio it looks as if we may just get a lot of rain but hope not so much wind. Some of the coast towns are getting hit hard. Years back I lived on that coast but thankful I don't anymore. Take care John Chuck
  19. GB Yes it's the claims of GPAA like you said. This year I wanted to dredge there but BLM said the club has to get a bond and then you get the permit to dredge from the club. Well GPAA is not going to do that. I ask BLM if I could get the bond to dredge and they said a big no. i belong to another club in Colorado but and they do have the bond needed. I just wanted more than one place to dredge. I'd plan to test a dredge that i'd made to catch fine gold on up. I know it works because I've tested lots on cons I got from a friend. On the GM 1000 after this hurricane pass here in Texas i'll hit the coast. That's as near as I can get to ground like in gold country. Steve may take half of this post and put it over in dredging.haha
  20. John This was my first time in Colorado with a detector in my hand to nugget hunt. In past years I was there running a dredge. The main reason this time just because it was a cooler place to nugget hunt. The spot I was testing the GM is one place I'd camp in the past but was not the place I'd plan to hunt. Most of my nugget hunting would have been at 8 to 10 thousand feet but the way I was feeling that was out. Steve The area I was in the mineralization is extremely high. I went back and forth from one coil to the other. Each time I would tie down the cable coming out of the coil but that had no effect on the false-ing. i don't care what settings I put in the GM it all gave the same false-ing. It still detected but as always one stem of green grass gave a false signal when went the swing was to the cable side of the coil. If i'd pick up the coil each time on my swing and just swing it away from the cable that would have fixed my trouble. At home the signal coming out of my GM is smooth as glass. After this Hurricane pass I'm headed to the beach to gave it a try there. I want all to know in no way I'm i giving up on my GM 1000. Chuck
  21. Well John I'm back and I can't say all is well on the home front. I went to Colorado and not all went well with the GM 1000. I too had trouble with some meds my witch Dr. gave me before i left making me to cut my trip short.. i'd park myself on the east side of the Arkansas River above Buena Vista to start my first hunt. I checked first as I look down the shaft to be sure all is in line. All went well until I turn my GM 1000 on. No matter what setting I put the GM or the coil I used I got nothing but false-ing. I got this when i'd swing to the right on the side the cable came out of the coil. I tied down the cable at the coil like some said this would help. One stem of grass would give me a false signal. I've seen along the Arkansas River that black sand would build up in a pocket one to two feet deep So my thinking that the mineralization was so high it was beyond what the GM could handle. The other trouble was the first time I hit a rock the shaft turned and being the coil is on the part it too done so. Another thing the GM is top heavy and the stand needs to be wider so not to fall over every time you put it down on a slope. When I got home on milder soil the trouble I did have didn't show up anymore. Hope to get out with it again before I pass judgement on it . I think like all VLF detectors in hot ground will have it limits. Chuck
  22. John Come this Saturday I'll be on my way to Colorado to give my GM 1000 a test. This is not the first time I've had this trip planed but I've found out long ago your life is not your own. I will report back with you here after my two week trip. On that video it may have not been yours but anyone going out for the first time with the GM 1000 it will put them ahead of the game as a nugget hunter. The great thing about this Forum is so many people like you just want to help others. About the best thing I could offer you is I'd come there and dig for you.haha The Best to you. Chuck
  23. Hey John Thanks so much for posting your video and a all positive one too. You may never know how much it help others but with me I'll take all the help I can get. By watching yours and others I'll spend less time learning in the field and more time hunting. Thanks again. Chuck
  24. If they had cut off the end of the video I'd said it's just another detector video. Then the calls would have been coming in where to buy it. Chuck
  25. The trouble with all the bad videos is the same is past on to their customers. In another town I was driving by a school that I had hunted lots with good luck on finding some old coins, Here was this lady swinging a detector as fast as she could go but had the coil is about 45 degree to the ground. I'm sure she went home happy. Chuck
