  1. The 6" will be worth it for shoreline work, at least around here. It will work better when the conditions call for it, if not use the 11" for more depth and coverage. (You can turn down the sens and raise the recovery with the 11" coil to eek out a few targets in the trash, but you can't use the 6" to find deep targets in the clear sand.) I wouldn't bring the 6" as my only coil unless I knew I had a specific spot to use it.
  2. Money sent, thanks Ed. Yours may actually arrive first. The other cable I ordered from Radioworld is coming with my 6" coil which is back ordered.
  3. Stavr makes good affordable scoops. Better then the average Ukraine scoop, less money then sunspot.
  4. I forgot the Iron Bias too. Try it in moderation though as 8"-9" silver can sound just like a 2 1/2" square nail, having the iron bias too high may mask these targets but will make a machine better on beercaps and nails to a degree. IMO.
  5. I'm just looking for the waterproof end to plug into the detector, the other end I can just solder straight into a pair of headphones. Let me know when you are setup, or I can email the funds.
  6. As far as the the update, I haven't notice more nails but I suppose it could have something to do with the big silver on edge thing. If anything I might have noticed a touch less, but too early for me to tell. Sometimes i consider the sensitivity as the rusty nail dial. lol Running above say 20 brings more falsing on smaller nails as you go higher.
  7. I have a couple quick questions Edsped if you don't mind. Is there any kind of a O-ring that keeps the water out, or is it that ring of plastic that seals? I get the feeling that the Equinox won't get hurt if the speakers get exposed to water, but it would be nice to keep the water out and from wicking up into the wire itself. (It could be a problem when it starts to freeze) Otherwise I could just plug into the machine with no connector. On your plug you have a mono phone jack. It probably doesn't matter and does simplify wiring the headphones, i was just curious as to the decision there. If Minelab comes out with a Stereo update, I want to be ready. lol I've already got the other one ordered, but seeing as you went to the trouble I would try one out. Are you selling them online?
  8. Wow there is some really nice stuff there. I would love to get a chain like that soon. I've never found platinum either but I got a junker here I can switch with yours and you'd never know the difference. lolol Im just looking at the Minelab phones, I wonder if the connector can be purchased separately or is it a OEM product? This week I'm going to get a 6" coil, so I thought I would order the headphones too, bringing the total close to $500 (CAD). I know I'm probably going to do it, just I'm feeling really cheap and need to pry my wallet open for those cans. All I really need is the connector. EDIT: I just found the Equinox 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, maybe I will just buy one of these instead and use my own headphones, I have lots around. Minelab Equinox headphone adapter cable 1/8" to 1/4"
  9. Thanks a bunch! I went for a few hours after supper tonight. New update installed. The conditions were actually decent. The swim-line was dragged in at my usual haunt. See we had a really big wind storm in the spring that removed a bunch of sand, most of it is back, except my usual cobble road that is only 5'-6' wide is now like 15'-20' wide. Normally I don't bother with this area in the summer but maybe it looks like I should have. Oh well it gives me a jump start on the fall hunting, I have lots of exposed cobble sitting right on clay to detect. It's not the easiest, lots of iron too, but it's shallow and concentrated. I snagged a George the 5th (1911-1936) silver dime and a Topaz silver ring. I had to fight for both of them, but both had that little bit extra gusto that stands out from a bent nail etc. Both targets, especially the silver ring up-averaged in the water while mixed with other targets. (This is a good thing IMO) That ring was blurting out high 30s, even hit 39 a couple times however reads 20 in the air.. I might have walked off thinking iron wrap around(However his machine doesn't really wrap-around like that), I stuck it out hoping for a pair sunglasses, I was surprised to see it was only a 2.5 gram ring making all that fuss lol. Impressive, both targets were very excitable. The dime was 6 recovery, sens 22, Park 2. The ring was the same except recovery 8.
  10. Coil control is being able to abruptly start then stop your swing on clean ground before and after the target. The actual speed isn't as important as you may think. Minelabs typically have been able to hoover very slowly right over objects, slower then other machines and still get a number and a response. The speed is almost arbitrary if you can get a good sample. ie dont start and stop your swing on garbage. Be aware of the targets surrounding you and how they are going to obviously mess your numbers if you include them in your sample swing. ("X"ing) This is typically how experience Minelab users have got the best numbers out of the machine in the past, it's how you get deep numbers. Don't flail round in a loosey goosey wide spiral, grab hold of the machine and do a sharp, controlled 6 inch wide sweep. Directly over the target. Use Pinpoint first if you have to. I've tried to help new stubborn Minelab users over the years and it drives me nuts lol, the sloppy lazy coil control that some use. Whats's that you say?... you can't lock on?...your numbers not making sense?...you hate minelab now?....minelab is slow?.....minelab doesn't separate?...going back to your "fast" shallow beep and dig?....(lol I guess no null means fast now. lol! , no null means you don't miss anything you say?) Its a machine used to analyze signals. To get the best signal, you need the least amount of noise. S/NR. Coil control gets you the best signal on tough or deep items. Its a bit different then banging 4" pennies with a weed wacker swing. It's really what they mean by "slow down". Take some of those weird sounds and try and scratch out some good tones from them. I'm just addressing the aspect of "coil control" since it was brought up, I'm not commenting specifically about this thread, I'm still trying to soak it in and maybe see how I can implement it into my water hunts. Coil control is important.
  11. I use Esun PETG mostly, I pay about $27 Canadian for a killo. (About the same street price as PLA here) The most important thing with PETG is to dry the filament. I made up something like THIS to dry my filaments. I'm sure somebody could do you a bulk order on filament when you are ready. As far as print surface, I use sanded blue masking tape. I use another ball of tape to get the sanding dust off. There are all kinds of new surfaces like spring steel and PEI etc, but the blue tape is a decent standby readily available.
  12. I mostly use PETG for mechanical parts, sometimes Taulman nylon if I'm feeling spendy. While PLA + etc are decent, I pretty much just them it for indoor models and stuff. Decent PLA is the same price as decent PETG. I like the stiffness of PLA and the dimensional stability but it's not as forgiving with fasteners etc. If you drop a PLA Benchy, it sounds like a golf ball. With a E3D hot end and a filament dryer I don't really lose print quality to speak of with PETG vs PLA, though it was a challenge at first.
  13. I kinda feel like this. Originally had a similar question as Probjob, though now I just use it like the dashboard of a car etc. I'm adjusting the metal detector and not a program if you know what I mean. The machine has a centric feeling, I like not having the urge to "switch modes" often.
  14. Part of me wants to try a wooden broom stick. I'm happy to report the tape in the above picture is still holding up.
  15. Hot Dog we have a Wiener! That is exactly what it is. (Pictures below lifted from "Military Antiques and Museum") I'm very glad I posted this here, I wasn't going to bother, I figured nobody is going to know what it is, it should be garbage lol. Man this was fun, thanks for all of the guesses. It looks like Rege-PA has just won himself some magazines. ?
  16. Today I got crowded out of the water so I decided to head back to the old school yard. Just as well I suppose as they announced they are going to tear it down immediately and build something or other. Its annoying because this town is slow as molasses to do anything else. They announced the recreation center when I was in grade school, I'm in my 40s now so whats the rush you know what I mean? lololol Anyhow I tell you an interesting phenomenon. Whenever I do a land hunt after a water hunt, I can always seem to eek out something decent fairly easily, I don't know what it is. I got my water ears on but I am on land if you know what I mean. This effect wears off after 45 minutes then the targets recede back to the shadows. Within 20 minutes of being there I had both of these targets. Both targets were in holes with square nails. They were not found together which makes this extraordinarily odd, I've dug thousands of targets from here and got very very little of anything that I could for sure say was military. Then again, why would there be, its a school yard. It turns out there was some training at some point in time. The item on the left is a pin from the 182nd Battalion Canadian Expedition Forces from around 1915 or 1916. The button on the right, if I was to extrapolate information from the pin would be around the same age. It's similar to other buttons I have found. I should be able to confirm the era by the style of crown that is at the top. The lower part just says "Canada" and of course has a beaver below it lol. For those Equinox users I spent the whole time hunting in recovery speed of 8, sens 22, Park2. I didn't mean to hunt that fast, by the time I realized it I had already found the maple leaf pin so I decided to let it roll. I got some pretty respectable depth considering I was on the fastest setting. *There were square nails in the holes of both targets. It will be a shame to see this place go, I just got the top layer beat back a bit to expose this old stuff, but hey I knew this day could come at any time. It's alright I guess, I have got a lot of really good stuff from here in the past. "the way she goes"
  17. Try playing around with the iron bias. (It's turned off in Park 2 I think.) I suspect you should be able to set it up like an older FBS machine, though I haven't tried yet. Slowing down the machine could help too, but I would for sure turn the iron bias up first.
  18. Any idea what this may be? It was found at a 130 year old school yard that they are soon going to tear down, though it doesn't necessarily mean its school related. My first thought was it might be part of a horn? However looking at it further, I don't know if it had the tolerances to be part of an instrument. The top part swivels in the center, while doing so it lowers the tear drop shaped flap into the tube part, while raising the other two. (One appears to be missing) It seems like it could be used to count or meter out some objects?
  19. Right on man. I'm just heading out the door detecting but I'm going to watch these videos again in more detail when I get back, I like how you even got the filter in there. I also have some metal detector and mining accessories that I design and print in my spare time, it will eventually become a side business once the cooler weather gets here.
  20. It was tough to get wet yesterday with all the people around. (labor day weekend) I eventually made it down to an abandoned beach near a dump. It sounds worse then it is, the area has great potential for relics and the odd bit of jewelry, it did however stink something terrible. The smell was not from the dump, just kinda dead stagnant fishy water with the occasional dead goose smell wafting through. The junk ring was the third target, the silver ring was about 3 hours later. The silver ring rang up around 33-35, I was pretty sure I had big silver, though I was envisioning a coin. Now that I have a pinpoint button again, I would often use that to size the targets as there is lots of cans and big aluminum chunks from fish huts that had penny/ring numbers. I eventually get to digging most of it do reduce masking in good spots, just in moderation though, I filled my trash pouch almost 3 times as it was. I'm still not using waterproof headphones yet, just the WM-08 module double sandwich bagged inside my wader's pocket. I'll get the headphones evetually as they will be needed in the spring when the water level is higher, but for now I'm enjoying the freedom of wireless. I can still cover 80% of the usual areas before needing to submerge my hand. I just have to be careful now as the Equinox does not float. ?
  21. A place for all things related to water detecting with the Equinox, fresh or salt. Feel free to post questions, suggestions, pictures of daily finds, etc.
  22. I agree, the Deus has capacitors in the coils to be able to tune to different freqs. The Equinox may be similar. Its certainly doable, just needs a little more effort.
  23. If you want those pluggers style clamps, look for a place that sells carbon and kevlar tubes, they usually have those clamps in various sizes.
