  1. I use a Chris P. Hip stick and a bungee with the plastic balls in each end. Wrapped it around the sdc2300 couple times. Worked perfectly for me.
  2. Sitting here listening to it rain very hard. Seeing all of the downed trees around here. Makes me think of going detecting after the storms pass. I especially want to detect the roots of trees and seasonal streams. What do you look for after storms?
  3. Thank you sir klunker. I will. I won a 505 in a raffle and my wife likes it. So now mom want to go out too. I'm not real sure how much she will like it or even go out. But she has expressed interest in it. Just don't want to overspend on it.
  4. My mother in law want to get into detecting. Gonna put the budget at $ 500 or less. She wants to do some coinshooting. She is a complete newbie. Great gold panner though. Something easy and light. What do guys recommend ?
  5. Google Larry Garside.UNR. Interesting read on the Reno and local area.
  6. Steve, So you going to the Minelab convention in N.O. What do they talk about there? Is it just a getaway. With cigars, booze and loose women? LOL Or do they get input from real detectorists like you? Maybe the timing sounds right to me, but the release of the GPZ 7000 sounds like it might happen there? Anyways have a great time. PS get me some free Minelab swag.
  7. I have the adapter. I use a JP B&Z booster. And took the GME computer speakers off the GPX 5000 harness. Bangs out those faint signals.
  8. I recently went with the sdc2300 to one of my old dredging locations. Found many OZ's of small gold here. Mostly small pickers. So I know there is gold there. The bedrock is granite. But most of the cobble and larger gravel are from another source. I knew the cobble rocks were hot. From trying with some other vlf's. But I would give the sdc 2300 a try. I set the gain on 2. Low threshold. Ground balanced. Went about 2 feet, hit a hot rock, tried to gb on it. well it would not tune out. Walked another foot , boom another one. And so more and more. So I turned it down to 1. Hot rocks would not go away. Went to the salt setting. Still there. I had no issue running on the granite bedrock. But could not find a area that was not to big without any hot rocks. I think the hot cobbeled rocks are volcanic in nature. About 20 miles north it is all lava capped for about 100 miles to the north. I thought the sdc 2300 would be able to handle the mineralization. I was surprised it did'nt.
  9. I like the wireless headphones idea. But I also like to use speakers under each ear. So I can hear snakes. So can they become wireless? On the coils. Maybe it is now possible to have both a DD and a Mono in one coil. A push of a button to switch between the 2? All I do know is you need to be sharpening your shovels and picks. Some deep holes are going to be dug.
  10. I have a deep down hunch, from all of his nay-saying, grovveling, and trying to deceive of us from his true intentions, Klunker will be first on the list to purchase a gpx7000.
  11. Back in HS, I had a great class called " Outdoors" . I loved it. It covered the whole spectrum of the outdoors. One of the things we learned was outdoor survival. So we had to make a survival kit that fit into a metal Band-Aid box. We got graded on how many essential items that we could fit into it. Also got extra points for some not as essential item that might fit. This was in the day before cell phones, gps, internet. We used to have a dime in the kit, so if you made it to civilization you could call someone on a pay phone. I try to keep it small and light enough to fit in my backpack. I don't carry always. If I'm going to be detecting near my truck. But for more remote locations, a MUST. ! I carry in my "survival kit" some essentials ... Waterproof matches, lighter, knife, parachute cord, mirror, whistle, gps, emergency space blanket, poncho, flashlight/headlamp,signal mirror, water purification pills. You can never go under prepared into the backwoods or desert. So what would you add to the list ?
  12. I wonder who the "Steve " from the USA was? Anyways I better start saving. Just wondering how up to 40% deeper means?
  13. I seem to be having a little trouble in pinpointing my targets. With the GPX 5000 I am spot on in getting the target in my scoop. With the 2300 I seem to be going a little right of where I think the target is. I eventually get the target, but am wasting time in my retrieval . It is a numbers game and it needs improvement. Anyone else having these issues? Or am I the only special one. LOL
  14. Thank you Steve for the great presentation tonight. Very informative. Here is some still video from tonight.
  15. Well I bit the bullet and purchased a solar panel and solar generator. This will take care of my detector battery charging in the goldfields.
  16. They had a whole assortment of solar charging products at Costco in Spanish Springs yesterday. http://www.goalzero.com/
  17. There's something special in his 4500 and DD coil. I've seen it in action too.
  18. I've been detecting when there are lighting storms. You can hear the lighting through your detector from many miles away. I've been told that when the lighting gets fairly close. Too turn off the detector. It can overload the detector and fry it?
  19. I perfer to not use the term discrimination. In today's politically correct dreamworld. I like to use the term " conductive profiling".
  20. Just wondering if there is any delay in using the Bluetooth headphones? I've heard other detectors had some issues in using wireless headphones. The delay causing to not properly pinpoint the target.
  21. I would like to invite all Reno area people. I invited our our Gold Detecting Guru Steve H. to be a guest speaker at our monthly N. Nevada GPAA meeting.
