  1. I'm sure someone with V3 experience will chime in, but the simple answer is aluminium and lead and lots of other targets respond in the same range as gold so you end up digging those. If you have a million pull tabs that all read the same you could skip those signals knowing you are skipping the 15% or whatever of rings that ring up at the same signal range. You can play percentage games like that, but there is no way to tell if the signal is gold or aluminum or etc without digging it up. I wish there was, and I was the only one that had it. That would be fun! Btw, this will probably get moved to the detecting jewelry forum. This one is for nugget hunting. Welcome to the forum!
  2. I think he was worried you were missing the quiet tones. If you are finding tiny bits also then your probably fine.
  3. You can also download a free pdf version here https://archive.org/details/cihm_02753
  4. Makes me think we be rotating settings. If I hunted a location on park 1 last time use park 2 this time, field 1 next time, with and without GB, recovery rate changes etc. Anything that might bring a response from something missed before.
  5. That actually sounds good. I don't have that many friends though. I'd probably have to go the traditional butcher and package route. I know elk are good, and they are camal sized anyway.
  6. I never knew that! Do they taste any good? I'm sure somebody has tried them.
  7. I went to Soundpeats website and they show an option for shipping to Australia for $10, so total price of $39.99 US, so 57.15 Australian for the ones we know work. https://soundpeatsaudio.com/q12-plus-soundpeats-bluetooth-headphones-magnetic-wireless-earbuds-ipx6-in-ear-bluetooth-5-0-wireless-earphones-9-hours-playtime-aptx-ll-cvc-8-0-10mm-drivers.html
  8. I just looked around some and found nothing. It's a pretty specific combination of specs. There probably just isn't a market for it outside wireless detectors.
  9. You could also just try them. They would be great for other things if the delay was too much for detecting. Some people have said the delay wasn't that noticeable with aptx. I haven't tried it so have more idea myself. Up till buying the equinox I always just used cheap wired earbuds for everything. I have an older detector that isn't wireless and I really like not having the headphones wire to deal with though.
  10. No, unfortunately. Those are only aptx, not aptx low latency. So they have about 120 millisecond delay, aptx low latency has 40ms delay. I looked hard at those before because they look just like mine but are an earlier model. I don't know if you can buy from the US without it costing a fortune but if you can the first link I posted are the Soundpeats with aptx ll. I'm guessing they all come from China so there might be someone selling them closer to you.
  11. Nah, bears and cougars are easy. Unless you get a crazy one they avoid or ignore you. Your far more likely to run into a crazy person in town than you are a crazy animal out in the wilds.
  12. I just did some research. The chance of dying by snakebite in Australia is only about twice the chance in the US. And most in both are people intentionally messing with snakes. I'd just go for it. If it really sucks you can always bail before it gets too bad.
  13. Boy I can't even answer. I wouldn't think twice, but we don't have so many creepy crawlies that can kill me. About all we have in Idaho is rattlesnakes and those are easy to avoid.
  14. Where are you? I'm assuming Australia, but let me know if that's wrong. I have these https://www.amazon.com/SoundPEATS-Bluetooth-Headphones-Magnetic-Earphones/dp/B07KLWS43V and like them lots, but I don't see them on your Amazon. I do see these https://www.amazon.com.au/Avantree-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headphones-Cancelling/dp/B07P961J94 kinda pricy in Australia, only $40 here. But yes, as long as they are aptx low latency (the ones you show are) you should be good.
  15. If I'm understanding correctly wouldn't it be the other way around? Both burrs on the same side on type a since it wasn't flipped? Interesting read.
  16. Yep , I got the Soundpeats earbuds last week, really liking them. I also like the minelab over ears lots more than I thought I would. I can see myself using both about equally. The Soundpeats will definitely be the ones I use over water though. The combo of them being somewhat waterproof and easy to pin to my shirt or something makes them perfect for it.
  17. Thanks for clueing me in to that. That's a great channel, and other than my river being lots colder pretty much exactly what I'm gearing up for. Nice instructions for building the floating sifter too!
  18. I love it. It was a huge leap for me to buy an equinox, sand scoop, and a used wetsuit. This is like lifestyles of the rich and famous for me! (I decided that was nicer than comparing it to real housewives of Beverly Hills ?)
  19. I've had to wait for flows to come down. It finally dropped off flood stage 3 days ago so I should be able to get out some soon, but fall will be the best flows.
  20. This is why I end up giving up on prospecting. I come back to it every 10 years or so and try all over again to figure out the claim maps, all the regulations and laws concerning recreational mining, etc. When I do think maybe I have a spot figured out and go up in the hills I worry the whole time that I got something wrong or I'm not where I think I am. I don't go up in the mountains so I can worry and stress so I end up chucking all the stuff back in the closet and take up some other hobby. If the goal is to kill recreational mining as a hobby everyone involved has done a great job. Obviously I've reached the point of frustration again. That's the main reason I'm focusing on jewelry, at least I can figure out the rules in that pursuit. I also have a couple possible nugget spots picked out. As far as I can tell it's BLM and has no placer claims. I'll probably go up eventually, and I'll worry the whole time I missed something and am pissing off someone.
  21. Do read the article Steve linked, it's really good, but the short answer is no, as a first detector there isn't anything you will really miss if you don't need the gold mode. Most of the customization options the 800 has that the 600 doesn't are most useful (it seems to me anyway) in making the equinox "sound" (respond) more like what a person is already used to. You aren't used to anything yet, so you will be fine learning the standard equinox sounds without changing anything. The wireless headphones are nice, but you can buy wireless aptx low latency headphones (that's what you want to get) for around $60. I went through the same decision last month. I live in a gold area so I got the 800. If I didn't I would have been fine with the 600. Hope that helps
