  1. Thank You! The cool silver ring is really gold, the Chesapeake Bay is very hard on it gold. I've even got several 18k gold that was stained. Being in the water here for over a hundred years takes a toll. The one pictured is 10k and since it has no fineness marks that would put it before 1906, when they passed the Gold stamp act of 1906/07, where all gold and silver had to be marked. (USA) I'm guessing but the ring had the emblem add and they used silver to attach the emblem. Which caused the emblem to turn crusty like silver...Before and after pictures..
  2. Been staying Home due to the Convid19 virus but seen a small window to get out yesterday. Got my much needed exercise at a private beach. Water was calm and beautiful with plenty of targets. Being my first trip out since March the 15th I could see changes, good and bad in the bottom. Since the winds and water were calm I went for the faintest targets in all metal with the excalibur. Slowly working a area about 800 feet off shore. Two 10k gold rings, and a few crusty silvers. First was a class ring I believe to be from the early 1900's, no markings which would place it before 1906. The second a men's 11 gram semi honker. Diamond tested real, which does very little for the value since it's less then a 1/2 carat. If I can slip out once a week and not see a soul I'll be very Happy... Stay safe and Healthy......joe
  3. That's a beauty! Love it when your hunting away, just having a good time...then Boom! Very Nice surprise!
  4. Not giving up here, It going to be delayed with all that is going on but You really have to stay focused on what you have in hand. It's not all the machine...........Spots are opening...and closing in the water. Don't let those open spots get away because you don't have the "AQ"... Right now we have a stay at home order in Maryland, once that has passed I'll be in the water.......... with or without the "AQ"!! Be Safe and Stay Healthy!
  5. Wind and noise is a major factor when hunting. Enjoyed the video, Thanks for sharing. I like the longer then normal coil cable LE JAG. Something that would be good to isolate the control box from the saltwater...And the reason I mention this is ......"IN" rough saltwater the effect of the water on the control box can cause noise. Something I did with my excalibur was to remove the control Pod from the water and run it under my drysuit. The results.... the excalibur went from a machine that was hard to use, false-ing in rough water to a machine that was almost silent and un-affected by the current and waves. Still some noise from the coil but so much better it can turn a bad hunt into a good hunt.
  6. Clear ring boxes fairly easy to purchase. https://www.ebay.com/b/Clear-Ring-Box/3820/bn_7023308183

  8. Sundays hunt. Two gold rings, one 18k small but beautiful design. Second a Mourning hair ring, worn for the loss of a love one. In this case I believe a child. No hair was left, ............dated Chester Assay, 9k,..375...1901...initials..EA
  9. Thank You!!....Not yet, winter lows and North winds are making it easier to get into these areas. But spring coming the south winds will keep all above normal. Yesterdays low was right near normal and negative tide. Summer these levels will run over two feet more. But will return come next October.
  10. Out today with normal tides but very calm winds and water. Been watching the locals posting on facebook and I can just about tell where they hunt from there targets dug and posted. Seen some one got a gold ring and another got a gold earring the other day. Looked like a fresh drop beach locally so I loaded up and went for a 3.5 hour hunt at a place I felt they may have hunted. Once there I was able to slip out deep into a area that holds older targets. Most of the sand was gone and more of a hard gray sand with shells. Found a few coins then boom a nice men's red stone gold ring..5.64 grams 14k, not a lot of targets in this area but near the 3rd hour I nails a deep big gold class ring. Name of the school is wore but it is 1960. 17.45 grams of 10k...Honker. 925 Heart and my first Mexican coin in years.
  11. Love the way those coins are stuck together!! Looks like a good day out! Even on the worse days we feel better just getting out. Good Luck on your next outing!
  12. Back out today for 3 hours, water was nice but after a few hours to rough for me...The best of it a 1925 class ring. Thanks for looking..Joe
  13. Many Thanks for the Kind words, Good Luck to all headed out soon. Not to much to worry about as far as being bait for the sea creatures, water temps are chilly..at 43F...6C
  14. Some great hunting grounds! You just never know what will come up next with so much history! Good Luck!!
  15. Out for 5 hours, 6 gold rings, 7 silvers. Was tracking a storm crossing the midwest late last week and into the weekend. Luckily it was just the right winds and I was able to catch one very good lowtide. Most of the Gold was stained bad , been under many years. One very interesting gold is the band..OB three crowns then 14k, a rare early years Ostby Barton. The real question for me this hunt is I found a very small gold ring, I think it was gold, Some how and some where she is still in the Bay I believe. Think it got stuck to my glove as I was putting it in my pouch, Got it on video..just not the full shot of it going into my pouch. Had this happen before, should have been more careful. Lesson learned.. Over all had a great time, got workout and found treasures. The Excalibur is doing it's job and hopefully by summer we will see the "AQ" as my clean up machine.
  16. Interesting piece, for me sometimes the Hallmarks are the most interesting part, and knowing it's origination . NIce find!
  17. That's a Great chunk of Plat! i recognize the Yellow VW Bus..
  18. Could be it for Feb......#24 for the year, 14k Cigar band.......And a Barber Dime......no date
  19. Two hunts, taking advantage of the lower tides. First hunt 2 hours, water very rough, got gold and left. Too rough for me. Day two 5 hours, almost turned around and left due to rough waters. Winds 23 mph NE winds, but decided to hunt in a protected area. Not as bad as it looked and after 3 hours I got two gold rings back to back. Crazy I was digging just about all targets, came across strange sounding null when I checked the target in Disc, after three scoops it sounded great but was still deeper. Got it out of the hole into the sifter..Gold ring more then 18 inchs down. 7.85 grams 14k..1921 class ring.........I check the rim of the hole, another target but junk. So really I started digging the target that was on the rim and did not realize I had dug it already and then heard the gold ring..which made it extra deep. Second gold was less then a foot away from the first, not as deep..maybe 12 inch's...10k..4 gram signet. Both rings were stained bad form being in the Bay waters many years. Gold Rings #21 #22 #23 for 2020
  20. Amen to that, Many times I could have swore my excalibur was hitting 18 "plus" inch's on a target .....but I was humbled once I took the time to measure with my scoop, and this is out in the water where every thing seems deeper. My rule of thumb now is take 4 inch's off what I thinking it was at that moment.
