  1. Hebrew symbolism for god ? Google Tetragrammaton explanation in many forms. Cool find!!!
  2. On the 6th of June at the end of the day after a hunt that yielded a big 0, I ran across the street to my go to spot for a quick hour hunt before dinner. I hit a few clad coins and I told myself one more good tone and that is it. Well 5 min. later I got a 33-34 and after digging to 8 inches out popped a large copper (coin)? Little back story this place has yielded some nice colonial coins and other 19th century coins over the years and they are usually retrieved at an average depth of 7'' to 8''. After half ass field cleaning and sweat burning my eyes, I decided to go home and see what it is. Here is my dilemma, it looks like an early copper, feels like an early copper, BUT it has not a scant detail to say it's a certain type coin. The weird thing is that the rim is pretty defined an crisp, but the surface is smooth as silk. I always find some small detail on a coin. After weighing (12.33 grams) and measuring (31 mm) I went about trying to see what coins fit. The closest I found was a 1799 1/2 penny measuring (31 mm) and weighing (12.66 grams). I started to wonder why in such good shape that there was no detail front or back. Could it be an early planchet yet to be stamped? Or possibly counterfeit blank?? I need a little feedback on what you all think. This one has me guessing.
  3. Raphis, Can you post a before and after pic with the peroxide treatment? Would love to see the results. I'm always looking for ways to clean my coins in a non destructive way.
  4. Joe, are sure that's a pin pointer????? Just asking for a friend. Not sure if your the only one using it, I hear they are pretty popular.
  5. Joe, you explained it exactly right. Low oxygen deep in the soil and odd and complicated soil make for some coins to survive. Just a note, My deeper dug coppers 9'' to 10''+ are most always in better shape.
  6. The four original state coins are New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont and Massachusetts. I have found the first three. I think the soil types, wet or dry can help or hurt old copper. Just guessing that it might be a PH thing. The key factor for me is being washed with water and then exposed to air. I believe that it makes the surface more fragile. In my early days of hunting I would start out with a decent coin, Wash it and a week later it was unreadable and the surface was crusty. Not a chemist but air exposure might be the main factor. Since I stopped washing my coppers, I have ended up with much better coins.
  7. I always dig jumpy 20 to 33 numbers usually a coin on edge. Could be silver or Copper, Sometimes good, most times crap.Just can't take a chance on passing up a decent coin. As of recent the 800 has been producing some great coins and rings with some weird numbers, But the tones do not lie. I always dig the tone, not the number. (thanks Tesoro!!!) Sometimes I get a faint really bouncy signal with a decent tone, That's when I switch to pinpoint mode and dig. Again most times junk but you will hate yourself if you think you passed up a deep coin. AS for cleaning the coppers. Just rub them on your glove or pants, Let them dry out and rub your face with your hands to pick up a little oil from your skin and massage the coin with your fingers. That's it. DO NOT CLEAN WITH WATER, You will end up with a ruined coin. A very small amount of coin grade mineral oil will sometimes help, But will darken the old coppers. Practice on a dud wheatie to see if you like the outcome. As for the silver coins, Water only!!! pat with a dry cloth. Rubbing, scrubbing and Tarnex are a no no. Rings when cleaning are less likely to be ruined. Clean and polish as you see fit. I have quite a few rings that never make it to be sold, Thanks to my wife. Just remember when in doubt leave it alone.
  8. Can't imagine what the market share of another pinpointer would be, Maybe 3%. Doubt they would break even after two years. What Nokta needs to do is focus on the new MF and stop coming up with backpacks, holsters and god forbid another pointer. When sharks are in the water You don't cut yourself. I hate to say it but this is the reason why I jumped ship.
  9. Well I decided to hit a new spot this morning, a 1770's farm house and barn turned industrial building. This will soon be torn down for another housing development. My buddy was hunting a small maybe 50' x 40' back yard that has overgrown flower beds, while I was hunting the perimeter of the house with cut lawn. After two hours of only a clad dime and a quarter, I decided to see how he was making out. I asked what he got 2 early wheaties was his reply. while talking I swung the 800 on the edge of a flower bed not expecting to get a signal. But I did a jumpy 21 22 23, Jokingly I said how did you miss that. He responded I didn't get there yet. Thinking I was digging a wheat penny, I proceeded to pop the plug. I checked it with the coil, Not in the plug. But now I was getting a jumpy 29 30 31 32 in the hole. Thinking big silver or copper, After digging to around 10'' out pops a very thin copper which I thought was a KG. My buddy (which I hope he still is, seemed a little flustered) came over to look at it with younger eyes, And told me I just dug a 1788 Vermont copper. Well now I started to feel a little sick for swinging in his spot, It was not how I wanted to find a bucket list coin. I offered it to him but he said no, He was glad I found it. Still I didn't feel OK, but knowing we hunt together a lot and we trade good and bad days made me realize how much you would rather your friend find something than yourself. So now I have 3 of the 4 state coppers, all with the equinox after years of detecting with other machines. Luck maybe but I'm leaning towards how you trade info on your machine and technique's used with your detecting buddy.
  10. Ever since I got the 800 I've been killing some of my old sites. Silver is one of my favorite things to find and I get a big smile on my face knowing there is still more to be found.
  11. Sometimes when the sites you think are lacking in finds, You end up finding a good day out. Nice job on the clad!! Now you need a dog.
  12. Pimento, Thanks for the clarification. I'll check out the site.
  13. The Barber is by far one the best I have seen come out of the ground. It is now resting in a protective coin holder. The KG is paper thin and and has a little detail on the reverse but that one is in nice shape for my area.
  14. It's been a while since I last posted and I have been busy with work and the yard. Not that I have not been out a few times, But today was something I had to take the time to share with everyone. I had the day off and wanted to go out early and see what the day would bring me. 5:00 am I decided to get dressed for the day and found a new T shirt that the wife had bought me, It said life is good. It had a dog holding an american flag in its mouth. I thought to myself this might bring me some good luck. Well I think it did. My first three hours were at a spot I hunted a few times. Its loaded with clad and I decided to hunt for quarters and dimes. After a few dollars in clad, I hit a 1945 Washington, (good start) A few more Quarters and I changed spots, Hunting an old horseshoe pit. No luck so I moved a few hundred feet and got a 24-25 on the 800. Out pops a ring that was pretty neat looking but seemed odd and silver plated, But it turned out to be sterling stamped ring made by Unca Co. in the mid 1900's. This morning is turning out pretty good. More clad and I decided to go back to the washington find and go a little slower. With in a minute I got a bouncy on edge tone that produced a very worn Denver mint standing liberty with no date. Sadly I had to go mow the lawn, But being greedy I needed to go back out to another spot. I called my buddy and we went to an old farm house that we hit once a month ago. The last trip yielded a capped bust, large cent, silver broach, pocket watch and an really early buckle. Today I had lower expectations. Well that didn't quite turn out that way. It started out a little slow but ended in a great way. My first good hit was a 1918 merc. Followed by a bunch of wheaties, 9 I think. My buddy hit a large cent and I followed up with a really nice 1914 barber quarter and a KG 3. He ended his day with a nice 1915 barber quarter. LIFE IS GOOD !!!!!!!
  15. Good job with the save, Everyone found is a piece of history that can be shared. Nice!!!!
  16. I think you had a good day, Better than work!!! What would life be like without a grommet collection Ha Ha.
  17. Welcome BM, Glad to see you joined in on DP!!! I hope you share some of your finds with us, As I'm intrigued by the finds in other countries. Seems to be a tremendous amount of history in your country and I would love to know more about what you like to detect for and what you find. Happy Hunting.
  18. Thanks GB, I can always count on you to give me the coin info. I'll pick up the guide book. I never thought that one was available. My two favorite coins are the merc's and the indian head penny's, they are just works of art. I wish you lived closer I would have you out for a run on some of these places. I wish you the best of luck the next time out!!!!
  19. That stamped coin is a one of a kind find for sure, my heart did a little jump when I first saw the cross. I thought I was at Oak Island for a second Ha Ha. CVISChris The spoon is awesome !! I only realized what was on it when I washed it off. I thought it was some junky plated spoon.
  20. My day started by taking my wife to breakfast and a trip to a local greenhouse. On our way back we drove by a place I have wanted to hunt for a while and couldn't because the owners were just not to friendly. But low and behold I noticed some new house development signs. I did a quick title search and found out it was sold and being developed very soon. So I grabbed my stuff and headed back to this 1830's house. Today was the first day since I got the 800 I could spend more than an hour and a half detecting. My first two hours were a pretty much a bust except a cool silver plate spoon and my wife texting me to see if I found anymore jewelry? (NO) I was getting a little frustrated and decided to focus on a small strip of grass (three feet wide) next to the driveway and an overgrown pasture. After five feet I got an OK 28-29 signal that was kind of bouncy. First good coin popped out a 1905 barber quarter (yes) Things were looking up. I jumped across the driveway and hunted near a rather young pine tree. Two swings and boom a 24-26 and out comes a 1919 mercury. Things are getting interesting. I stood up after digging the merc, swung again got 23-24 at 9 inches out comes a coin that had me wondering what the hell is that. after a little quick cleaning I realized I had a 1832 classic head 1/2 cent. But this was no ordinary 1832 this has an over stamp with a cross and the initials FZ. It seems that it was stamped early in its life. I'm wanting to know if anyone has ever found a coin with stampings? I have found a lot of good coins, but this has now become my favorite. The day came to an end and I had to go and enjoy some burgers on the grill. Almost forgot the spoon, Its an american airlines made in the 1930's with the shape of a dc-3 and the words flagship on it.
  21. My guess is a Saint Benedict medal. Maybe an older one. They were made in and around 1740
