  1. I would have been happy to have told all of you all if I had only known about this forum!! I did not spend as much as you have on coils because they were not as available back then for the different ones available now. I had both mid and high freq large minelab coils and small 18khslz 6 inch HF coil. The reason I settled on the 6 inch coil and hunt with it was due to the fact the large minelab coils threw the machine way out of balance. ....there is a coil made by cors I think that has the ability to change frequencies with a 9 volt battery now. I saw it on eBay the other day and I am sure it only weighs 1/2 of what the minelab 10.5 inch Xterra coils weigh. I still am tempted to get another Xterra but If I wait long enough they may be marked down like crazy since minelab had stopped production of them. Will wait and see.
  2. I am disappointed in the Xterra having become obsolete. After swinging some Garrett and white units I got my first Xterra from Gerrys detectors in Idaho who is a dealer here on this forum back in 2008. As soon as I went out swinging that light weight and easy to read machine it was a complete change in my finds for the better. Then I added a DD coil and it got even better. I finally settled on the small 6 inch HF coil as my primary hunting coil. It did not get fantastic depth but was good for mild soil like I have here. It sure picked out the silver around old houses.
  3. I had the q20 and believe it or not it was a great little unit. It did not have many settings but it was sure hot on nickels. I had it for a back up unit for a while and sold it off. I have not used the one listed in the picture but the company seems to be doing pretty good.
  4. I found a small buck and ball shot come up at about 26. It was on the edge between the iron tone and the mid tone. It is the lowest number I have dug that was actually worth a dig.
  5. Well I know why you may feel this way but if you took out a deus with the custom program that you had placed into a custom slot and did not go over a particular good target in a small area but 10 minutes later you turn on your ORX and did go over the particular good target and dug up a 1000.00 diamond ring, would you still fell held back due to the non customized programing handicap of the ORX? believe me and I may be shooting myself in the foot when I put this on here because I am selling my remote here in the classified section, if the deus can hit it so can the orx using the same coil and same frequency on any given target in the ground. the only difference would be between the units is the pitch of the tones between the units whether custom or stock programs and believe me that is all. I have done many test with a deus I had last year against my ORX out in the wild with targets in the ground out in the wild before they were dug in their naturally dropped position or how they landed in the ground relic and coin shooting and also in my test gardens. i personally do not feel handicap swinging an ORX.
  6. Really?? I did not know that people here were looking too. I will try to do that too.
  7. I wish I knew what it said but it is a really cool find!!
  8. Well I thought about it over night again and I went ahead and made my mind up to go ahead and sell my Deus stuff. I am just not going to use it and I prefer the large ID screen of my ORX and the fact that it is only 3 tones is just fine with me because that is what I normally use anyway. The Deus is an excellent unit. One of the best but not matter what I do with it, I will still only use a deep and fast program. Plus I cannot just let a machine such as the Deus just sit idle and collect dust. Do it is off to the great auction site once more.
  9. I threw my remote and back phones up for sale on ebay but took them down a little bit ago. I just cannot seem to wrap my head around the fact that there probably is not something that is going to be better or as good as my current Deus/ORX are. I do not beach comb so why do I need a water proof unit? Or multi freq? I don't. And what machine out there currently is actually that much better anyway? I thought I would sell my remote and back phones for my Deus to get another unit but if I did what would it be?? I just do not think there is anything out there that can touch it. So I guess for now I am just going to keep both.
  10. I see I am not the only guy driving a hot rod that is stuck a traffic jam now. I really love how small it is and all of the settings it has. In order for me to justify having them both I would have to do some very serious hunting in environments that are unique at each and every field or house I encountered in order to take advantage of the settings. They both get the same depth and have the same speed on the same Target. Although there are no other units on the market in which you can carry a complete spare control unit in your shirt pocket. The next best thing one could do is to buy 2 minelab equinox units and pull off one of the control heads completely off of the shaft and store it in a fanny pack or shoulder pack in case something went haywire with the one you were swinging. But you would even have to carry the tool in order to swap out the control pods. That is about the smallest control pods that any competitors manufacturer. I am probably going to keep both of them. What I should do is just use one and then on the next outing use the other. Swap them out on every other outing.
  11. But still no clear definition about that in a long time. I thought it was too but now it does not look like it does it?
  12. I remember seeing in ads when these hit the scene that they had 2 processors in them. Now I do not see anything about that anymore. Does anyone remember this?
  13. I have been forcing my self to use my Deus more here lately. I am finding that I like the Deus very much. For the most part I am using Gold Maxx and deus fast. I have a custom deep program I use as well. What I am getting at is i am not really using as many of the programs and settings. I fiddle between 2 for the most part and some times 3. And that is Deus fast and either gold Maxx or the deep Custom one I made. I have been thinking of selling either my Deus remote set up and keeping the ORX or selling the ORX remote set up. I like the ORX for the large easy to see screen and iron probability bar. Plus I only fiddle with the coin programs anyway. I actually favor the ORX to tell you the truth. They are slightly different animals. And each has their own strong points. But target and depth between the 2 are equal. Who else has the same delima??
  14. This is the one I have on mine and I mounted it like this below the battery compartment. It is still easy to get the battery in and out. https://www.seriousdetecting.com/product/whites-detector-stand-matte-black-dfx-xlt-mxt-m6/
  15. Well here she is. I ordered the coil last week. It is the 13" Detech Ultimate. I cannot believe how light weight it is. I am totally like a kid in a candy store today!! I put the Sun Ray probe on it a little different than how most people mount them. It really had some awesome separation too for such a large coil. I am not totally sold in the depth aspect just yet. I will have to do some.more testing. But for now it is awesome.
  16. I found a dealer supplier today who still has several New Whites in stock if anyone is looking for one. He has several accessories left as well. It is Whites of the Great Lakes if anyone is needing anything. Was told by them that they were the biggest Whites Distributor and when they got wind Whites was closing they pretty much bought out all they had. I do know they are out of the D2 coil. I needed an 8AA battery pack and that is how I found out about them from the old Whites of the mid south I used to deal with. Anyways, I hope no one minds me sharing this.
  17. I was just curious if someone wanted to write an article on one of the old stories out of those magazines for a reference thing what all would be involved. Thanks to all who responded.
  18. Man Steve you really wrote a good article on the MXT I enjoyed your ugly nugget story too. Also I saw you trying out the Garrett infinium as well. I always wondered about that unit and how it was. If I was ever gonna get a pi unit it would have been one of them.....it just looks good to me. Anyways...that was fun reading!!
  19. I do not know how much your gonna learn from me but at least we can chew the fat a little on the mxt. One thing I like on the mxt tracker better than the pro is the pull tab notch it has in coin mode. You can put it in coin mode then push the toggle switch forward and it will notch those puppies out. On the mxt pro it will just put the machine into all metal. Another thing I like better on Whites units is it keeps the older bottle caps down lower on the scale compared to a lot of newer machines.
  20. Well after posting this thread I got ahold of a mxt pro today. I think that it does have a slight depth advantage over my regular mxt tracker. I have a 11 nickel buried in my test garden and this was with a 7 inch excellerator coil. The pro will touch it with a high tone where as the regular mxt will only null out thinking it is iron. So needless to say I have made my mind up on which one I prefer now. Not saying anything bad about the tracker mxt I love it but never had a pro before. So going to give it a whirl now!!
  21. Of the 2 mxt machines the original tracker or the pro which one is your favorite and why?? MXT vs MXT All Pro display pod showing new touch pad buttons
  22. Ok I was just curious and I have been trying to find out without any luck so I am going to ask this question here...... Who owns the long John Latham magazine and lost treasure magazine copy rights? What if I wrote a little article about metal detecting research or whatever and wanted to use an old article or story for a reference that was in one of these old magazines that are no longer in print.....how would I go about getting permission to use the old articles or the rights to use them?? Anyone know anything about this kind of stuff??
