  1. I too agree with the above on the XP ORX or maybe the Deus. The Deus is the most advanced machine I have ever had. Very light weight.....deep and fast. The ORX is just as fast and just as deep with less adjustments....but the performance is still there. You would not go wrong with either machine.
  2. It will come down to what your coil goes over and sounds off on. Not if one vlf freq vs multi vlf freq is better than the other. I found using multi freq on an equinox would false quite a bit in iron contaminated trashy areas swinging the coil near the iron trash before canceling it out while swinging over the iron trash. In single freq mode the equinox I had would do better in iron infested sites. So with this being said....maybe try using just single frequency mode for a bit and see what happens. I would go ahead and dig all of those iron targets out anyway to see what is beneath them. If you missed a target while swinging over a spot in multi freq mode then switched to single frequency mode and actually swung over the target while going back over the same area.....how would you know what mode would be better??? There is no way to know for sure unless one was to grid off an area and dig every thing in that spot until you heard no more targets at all then change frequencies or put it in multi frequency and do the exact same thing to see if anything was left.
  3. I know they were pretty active on face book. Maybe look and see if you could message them through there if you have an account. Or if you do not maybe someone in your family can try for you.
  4. Man I was so excited that Garrett came out with a new unit in a multi frequency option. I used to use Garrett machines often and have owned several different ones. I got on youtube the other night and have noticed a few unboxing videos and first time out with an Apex video. SO I thought they were already on the market. I was shocked to see that it is still on pre order this morning!! How is that?? I guess because maybe they have somewhat of a following that they are given special permission or privileges from the manufacturers of trying them out first. However, I see a lot of b.s. over reacting sometimes in these videos that it makes me want to scream. Too much drama......finding silver halves in a hunted out lot......give me a break. I am looking forward to guys comparing them to other machines in the field though. The Apex machine may be somewhat competitive to the equinox but it is not water proof.....Kind of a step up from a simplex in my opinion with the multi freq option.....but the simplex is still water proof and cheaper. Anyways........there is a ton of videos on the Apex machine that has not even hit the scene for the public yet. At least when Makro Nokta discusses releasing a unit, they may mention a new unit but it is all kept hush hush until the release.
  5. I saw this elsewhere and was very happy for you. Maybe there is some silver left somewhere up there
  6. I think that is an awesome find!! I would love to find something like that myself!!
  7. Man........I am speechless.....that is some fantastic finds. Mind sharing your silver finds?????
  8. It was a good deal. I am not surprised.
  9. If Jeff does not jump on this I will buy it.
  10. Keep looking there may be silver there!! Congrats on your first wheat!!
  11. Yes I agree although there are some who would not. I sold my eq600, my racer and anfibio when I got my ORX. If I would have had others they would have left too. Then I got a Deus as well. I am not saying the others were not good machines....they certainly had their place....I just enjoy the XP stuff more. The technology of todays machines are incredible. And how far they have come as well on design and ergonomics is way beyond what it used to be. I see several of the major brands trying to push the limits of VLF technology. I do not know how much farther it could go. But is sure is a long way from what we used to swing!!
  12. Checked out your video. I have not used the gold modes much but the difference in sound was obvious. Thanks for sharing!!
  13. Welcome aboard!! I am afraid you will not learn anything from me about looking for gold here in this forum because I do not know a thing about it!!! But no worries because a ton of the guys here will be able to help you out!! Have fun!!
  14. Wow tough Conditions I have never encountered before or had to prepare for. I see why now it is so tough. The neat side of it though at least to me anyway is the fact that there are some interesting rocks and minerals you could come across as well while out there. I am a rock hound somewhat too. I think that would be very neat. And meteorites...,any of you come across them??
  15. I never considered the term before. Interesting perspective you have brought up.
  16. I mean 3 four hour hunts. So that makes about 12 hours a set. I did not know the dfx would go to 25 hours but I knew the MXT and m6 could.
  17. It is a great deal on that DFX. I believe it to be a more versatile unit than the simplex. The only draw back other than the DFX not being water proof to me would be the batteries it takes to keep the DFX up to snuff out in the field. Other than that the spectra graph on the DFX coupled with the ability to run in multi freq is an advantage it has. I like the numbering system for whites machines as well. Nokta's TID numbers are fairly good. The durability of the DFX was great for its time. However, it is a crap shoot getting the DFX especially since what has become with Whites. The push button pads on the whites DFX are known to go out and without having a replacement to install, it would turn into a brick I am afraid. There are a few coils left to be had but will an after market company still make coils for a business that is no longer in production? I believe with all of the adjustments one can do with the DFX it is a superior machine compared to the simplex. The simplex may be deeper due to the larger 11" search coil. So with these to take into consideration from my point of view and for fun if you will on what I would take.....I think I would take the simplex for these reasons. The replacement part availability will be lacking very soon on the DFX. Also I know the DFX can get a rechargeable battery too but I have had several of those crap out on me through the years as well. The price of a package of AA batteries if bought at the big box stores are about 12 bucks for 16 batteries plus tax. If you use headphones with the DFX you might can get in three 4 hour hunts on a set if your lucky. So that is $6.00 every time you need to replace batteries. With the larger coil size that is DD style, being waterproof, has a rechargeable battery and a straight rod set up, the better deal to me would be purchasing the Simplex. HH Tim
  18. Hey everyone, I hope all is well. Prospecting for gold is something I have always wanted to do. However, I do not think I will ever get the chance to go out west and try it out. So with that said, I have a few questions about electronic prospecting with a detector. how much does it supplement your income? What about chiggers and ticks, do you have to deal with those pesky critters too out in dry climates? Other than your machine and digging stuff, what else does one take along while prospecting for those just in case you need it scenarios? Do you hunt mostly on a claim or public land? Sorry if this is downright boring for some of you but it is something I have wondered about.
  19. It would give the mid tone and the numbers would stay consistent.
  20. I am new as well so welcome!!
  21. I hate chiggers like crazy and we have them here in TN very bad. There is a product I use called chigg away. It comes in a little green bottle and you can get it online. It is sulfer based. Kind of a cream paste style product. I smear that all over my ankles and also rub some on the outside bottom of my pants legs. Also some on my socks after I have applied it to my ankles. I have yet to have any after applying it to my lower leg area. Good luck.
  22. yes you are correct. with the modern aluminum alloy types it would be harder to distinguish. But if I remember correctly they seem to pop up a little lower than what the zinc pennies do. I need to go and check this out. I have several of them out in a bin.
