  1. Some of you on this forum may never have seen any or all of the episodes of The Meteorite Men. I encourage you to go online and find the episodes and watch as many of them as you can find. This episode is about finding huge meteorites in Kansas. I remember watching it on TV the first time and a couple of times in repeat while they were still showing them a few years back. I remembered this episode because of a sled the boys built and drug across the ground to find some very valuable finds. I did not know them when they were putting together these shows but I have since met them in Tucson and been with many meteorite hunters (some of you are here)! I like this one because it shows some information about ALL meteorite strewn fields and some of the technology they used and still use to find meteorites. I'm sure they have some of the most recent Minelabs like I do which finds meteorites with ease if they are there. Mitchel
  2. I might go to Wyoming but I'll have to make plans.
  3. This post has reminded me of an episode of the Meteorite Men. I didn't know them at the time but I have since met them and other meteorite hunters and they have tools most of us gold hunters don't have. At the time of my first watching of this show I thought it was a bit 'too much' showmanship for me. It turns out they are very diligent hunters and very interested in their chosen Profession. I know some roll their eyes when their name is brought up but production is production in order to get maximum viewers. This episode shows you at the 14:30 minute mark some of the detectors they have used including one that is 18ft square. Another one was made by Orange County Choppers before that team blew up! I think I will repost this in meteorite forum also. Mitchel
  4. Now, let me give the negative ... I just hate watching Wicked Tuna when they put together a 'scene' of fighting a fish or following an idea and you see some of the background is 'glassy' and other times it is 'rough' with wind waves. It drives me crazy! I do know they do that with the gold shows too but am I supposed to watch Prime Time? NEVER
  5. I have met the guys from Bering Sea Gold up in Nome. They were also at the GPAA show in Vegas this year just as some of the Gold Rush 'Dakota Boys' were at some of the last couple of years shows. There is a certain amount of 'production' that goes into being one of the paid groups. They must shoot and re-shoot scenes at the expense of the crews. They lose production time and the crew-share drops because of this. Not all who want to be paid will get it from the producers. I know one of the backhoe guys who is a good friend of Shaun who has the first backhoe. He asked for money from the show. He was not given any as a production decision and he said 'get off my barge' and has made good gold without them being on board. That is why I watch the shows. It is just like watching Wicked Tuna. I like seeing the fish. I like seeing the GOLD. It just shows me it is there. Mitchel
  6. Cooper created maps that were described as: The maps were created while Cooper was navigating the globe on his Mercury 9 Faith 7 flight. At the time, he was possibly on a mission to look for nuclear threats during the Cold War era, Miklos said. “They were utilizing some kind of long-range detection equipment to look for nuclear threats. With that, his acute vision [and] possible cameras, he started identifying things that looked like shipwreck material,” Miklos said. “Once he had written all the coordinates down, he went back to earth and put together this incredible treasure map from space on a sea chart.”
  7. Did anyone take a photo or two? This is a story with quite a good ending. A great gesture was had (not necessarily rewarded) by all. Mitchel
  8. Has anyone been watching the show Cooper's Treasure? http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/coopers-treasure/about-coopers-treasure/ What do you think about its technology?
  9. Come on Steve, we know what your real baby is ... The Forum ... and it keeps you up ALL the time! I bet that nugget sounds REALLY good in your ring hand! I hope it is yours.
  10. I can't read mine without the sunlight ... takes all kinds I guess. I thought the back-light would run my battery too fast. Mitchel
  11. How much is that gnat vaccine? or do I need anti-venom for those big suckers?
  12. If you go to a spot with gold and she uses and finds it you will have to take solo trips to use that machine because she won't use any of the others. It is light and comfortable. No detector is going to put more gold in the ground for us but if you have a detector that lets us hunt longer (Monster 1000) or deeper (GPZ 7000) then we might fake our senses into thinking there is more gold! Mitchel
  13. I think someone wants to keep us away for a few extra weeks ... Where is the snow? http://www.sierracountrystore.com/the-sierra-city-webcam
  14. Chris, Nice nuggets. It is ok to dig some trash if these are mixed in with it. Steve is right. He is off to a slow start. He posts here at all times of the day and night including weekends. I don't think he is taking his keyboard with him in the field because the posts are quite long. I've got a feeling he'll be catching up (if the snow ever melts). Mitchel
  15. Thanks for the post, the story and the great pictures. What detector were you using for this hunt?
  16. Stephen, Steven is my middle name. I'm glad I didn't scare you off. It would be nice of you to post some things about your relic hunts here and then Steve might move them to the proper forum after a bit. I've posted some in the meteorite forum and if I ever make it back to the good finds at the beach I'll post back there again also. Mitchel
  17. Steve, Excellent ... I'll reread and let it soak in several times. The receiver ... I have always 'tested' my sensitivity of coil/detector by how close (2-3 feet) you can get to an aluminum can (for example) from the SIDE. The transmit has always lit up the target but the receiver often can't 'see' it. When hearing from the side I will move toward the target like a moth to a flame. Of course the target is louder under the coil and it is one of the reasons why we have to remove the trash with a boot scrape or rake away the hot rocks on a good/gold hill. The little or faint target can be masked by so many things. Dig most things ... Mitchel
  18. Ok, it's true. I can't think for Steve. haha I'm really surprised he has enough time to keep up with all his testing and all the forum entries also. Is that Wilma? Nice picture. Bootyhunter, I'm Mitchel and what is yours? Perhaps you have made a product that will let us get our 'old' equipment out in the wet to look for some nuggets. My present equipment of a 3030 and a 7000 is water resistant to a certain degree and if I got rained on I would worry more about me than the detector! I still have a 5000 and I may have bought one of your systems to protect it from moisture if it was my primary detector. I beach detect and nugget shoot but do very little relic detecting. I do understand that if you are relic detecting in England on a guided tour you MUST detect rain or shine. Most of us nugget shooters stay at home until a better day if it is too wet or windy. Mitchel
  19. I guess we were reacting more to the 'style' rather than an outright spamming. The forum owner would have given you a warning or deleted the entry if he thought there was no merit in your product. As nugget hunters we tend to be avoiding the real wet weather because our targets get masked unless we are using sniping gear. I for one will tell you that I am a 'fair weather' detectorist with the exception of some heat.
  20. Very good going! I was out Thursday and Friday but didn't get any gold.
  21. I agree, I've seen a post start out with similar language and I begin to skip ... down the post and then ... to the next post!
  22. Thanks Chris, When you attend you can't see this stuff either. Many not there know more than those who attend. Mitchel
