  1. Fred, Don't carry the cat. Train him to find the new patches for you. The weight will drop off the cat as you follow him to all of the new spots. You'll only need the GPZ to dig the nuggets. Mitchel
  2. Lunk, LUNK, LUNKERS in your future.
  3. I have found a hand saw but that is way over the top!
  4. My beach wet sand was too hot for the thing today. It was quite noisy and I have to go really, really slow compared to the 3030. It works better in the dry sand so the 3030 is still the wet machine.
  5. I have discovered another problem with the WM12 that I did not experience with the WM10. There is a rubber cap that protects the connector on the WM12. This cap has a little 'flap' and today when I went out to use it I discovered that the flap is only held on by less than 50% of the remaining flap. I don't remember ripping it back like that but it has happened. Maybe some kind of glue will help it. I'll have to call MineLab and ask them about a replacement.
  6. The subject is serious. If you can't hear targets then you can't get nuggets. Hi, low, on, off, a little of this and not so much of that ... is this machine more art than science?
  7. Paul, Do you know where the nearest hospital will be on each flight? Mitchel
  8. I'd like to be able to hear targets like those.
  9. I have it now on my 3030 waiting for a gold trip. I could only load 5 of the programs because I want to keep my beach, relic and coin programs. When you use the 3030 for something other than gold, what programs do you use then? Mitchel
  10. Steve, There is a difference between the video and their written descriptions of the modes. There is one piece of literature that says Extra Deep is 40% deeper but that is not what they say in the video. Mitchel
  11. Thanks Lunk. I have been following your settings for years. I wish I would have seen you last week when I was up there. Mitchel
  12. I've been out a few days with the Zed. Sometimes there are some very hot rocks or 'formations' that are out of the ordinary even after ground balancing. They are not quiet in high yield/normal. So you switch to difficult. It gets quieter. Then you switch to severe and nothing or faint. I used this same procedure on some targets before I dug them. Not all targets would go silent but some that did were small parts of rusty cans and other iron. It was not something I had to do often because I was hunting on hammered patches and nearly all of the trash was gone. Has anyone learned a discriminating procedure or just dig'em all and move on?
  13. If anyone uses the Extra Deep setting you will notice that the only setting for the ground type allowed on my machine is normal. It can't be used with Moderate or Severe. If you try to get into that ground type while in Extra Deep the menu will not let you. You have to navigate 'out' by going to General or High Yield and switching to another ground type. I was experimenting on targets before I dug them and had some deep soil. I did find some small trash that was not deep in the Extra Deep but the sound was very limited compared to the other two settings. Is this the way it works on all 7000s?
  14. Wow! Great. I had looked for some others but couldn't get the last part of open or claimed on a specific parcel.
  15. In my first two days of using the Zed I had a similar 'event' on a much smaller target when trying to pinpoint. I'll try the switching to fixed next time. This does bring up the question of 'what is the shape of the signal?' We have been told to use these as reference but I know Steve has different ideas about it. PI Mono = cone PI DD = blade VLF = cone ZED = ??? Where is the best place to swing your target over the coil in a scoop? front, sides? sideways only?
  16. I go to a coin dealer and they xrf my finds from the beach.
  17. Try to sell some of it and the buyer will whip out an xrf and tell you what it is!
  18. I've just been out in the field with the GPZ 7000 and I could not possibly use it without a weight assist. I'm using my HipStick that I use with my other Minelabs (3030, 5000). I use the 5000 harness but there could be others. It is simple to unhook and I don't feel like I have put on armour to go out detecting. JP has a video where he put it together for the 4000. The ProSwing bungee is the BEST. When going up or down a slope it can be adjusted with one hand to perfectly balance the coil. Without this my arm would be unable to prevent fatigue and tennis elbow from flaring up. I don't even need the extra arm which is good because I'm using that one for the pick. Here's the site to get one: http://detectoraid.com/ Mitchel
